Date Night.

This weekend was fantastic! Jordan Spieth won The Masters…Un-F*%@ing-Believable! We had a great time watching the tournament mostly at home (rancho relaxo) but managed to hit up our local sports bar on the last day of it to watch it with some friends.

Watching the tournament was getting us inspired so we went and hit balls at Weddington Golf 2 days in a row! Lol I’ve really enjoyed learning more about the game, and little by little, my swing is getting better.

As you know from my first post back, my BF and I go back n’ forth from LA to the BAY…so this was his weekend to come here  This post is dedicated to our favorite spot near my house. Never fails. We go there EVERY time he comes to town.

Date night is the best! For the most part, if I’m not in the salon…I’m in some sort of sports/workout wear, so dressing up for a nice dinner is a freakin treat.

Tipple and Brine’s “Social Hour” otherwise…Happy Hour, lol starts at 4:30 and goes until 6:30. We typically get there 5:30 and enjoy $2 chef’s choice oysters, and $7 dollar Old Fashioned’s. Seriously AMAZING! The bartenders know what they’re doing. The oysters are always fresh and constantly changing.

The best is if you can make it there on Mondays…DOLLAR OYSTERS!!! Ummmm, hello!

I think the best seats in the house, are the high tables or at the bar. What I mostly LOVEEEE about the restaurant, is it’s vibe..its decor. It’s totally my style. Rustic but sexy. lol. It’s got a barn like feel and is definitely comfortable. I love having a place like this finally show up on my side of the hood. haha.

Their full menu hits all the faves… Oysters, Veggies, Sea, Land and Dessert. Everything fresh, and I haven’t tried anything I didn’t love.

After dinner we headed upstairs to the Tunnel Bar(which opens at 7) for a dessert cocktail and a nice sunset vibe on the rooftop.

Ended our date with heatlamps and whiskey, and an uber ride for 4 bucks. lol

Goood lordy I’ve been a bit MIA, I do apologize! Although I don’t have a recipe to share with y’all today, I DO have a fun post for you!;)
If you don’t already know, a couple of my best girlfriends live in the heart of beautiful San Francisco, and I was in dyer need of a mini vacation;)
So I arrived Friday early morning, by the way….SOOOO proud of myself for navigating my “awful sense of direction self ” though the BART system. phweeeeee! lol. Such a nervous dork….”um, excuse me sir…this way? Oh um, can you help me figure the ticket machine??” Bahahahaha wtf.

Anyway…. I made it alive and managed to walk…with my luggage…all the way from my stop, to my girlfriends house. That was my workout for the whole 4 days. Woops.

Unfortunately this pic does not do this view justice. It looks gloomy out, but in reality it was sunny and high 60’s low 70’s the whole time. I am one lucky betch!

Walking through the streets, yes…with my luggage (total tourist) a dropped everything to snap a pic of some gorgeous fresh flowers. Flowers are a weakness. Obsessed. So much variety, full of color, absolutely STUNNING!

Omggggggg…now THAT’S a view babes! Over looking the bay on Telegraph Hill. My friends are blessed to wake up to this every morning. WOW.

Cheers-ing to a fab day with a beautiful and crisp Rose by Donkey & Goat. Even if you think you are not a “rose” person, please give this a try. I soooooo enjoyed it!Oh, and btw…since I became a total WINO, I joined delectable which is a super fun app for wine lovers. The fun part is, that you get to share and post reviews on all the wines you enjoy with friends! Look into it, it’s really cool!

O, so this pic right here…prrrrrety much sums up all my faves at once. Well, I lied actually…that German Riesling (trader Joe’s ) not my fave…but otherwise, the view, the triple cream cheese, prosciutto, figs, and nuts…HOT DAMN! I swear I could eat that everyday. Every SINGLE FUCKIN DAY. oh…wait. I’m missing some dark chocolate. Lol

OHHH yessss….and the drinking continues. (No shame)
On this particular night, we decided to cook at home. Very gourmet daaaaaalinggggg.
The cheese plate was our first course…. (In France..the cheese plate would actually be more for dessert paired perhaps with dessert wine) but here in the states….gimme that shit firrrrst! 😉

This is such a great idea for a dinner party.. Super easy and everyone loves them.plus a great way to add variety and make some vegetarian, vegan, are carnivore! Helllllllllo.

Headed to Nat’s favorite local bar and met up with some friends;) by last call…we almost got into a fight with the lady who wouldn’t let us use the pool table (cuz she kept winning, bitch) lol.
Caught an Uber , and stumbled are way up the stairs to her building.

Pretty safe to say…the next morning, was a bit rough. Lol. We had planned to go to a boot camp class at 9:30 am at the local StudioMix, but we decided that walking to breakfast would be a much better workout. Hangovers justify laziness.
But hey, at least we have our workout clothes on…..

After breakfast, we walked, & WaLkEd..& WALKED! Up and down loadz of hills, of course feeling better after some food. Nat took me allllll over the city. No joke. We were feelin grrrrreat! So, it’s 5 o’clock somewhererreeee! Maybe it was time to try out some local brewskis! Lol

We stopped at Magnolia to try a super delicious Kalifornia Kölsch hand crafted and local beer. Not quite a shot glass, but not quite a pint. Just right.

Oh yes, and the San Francisco FOOD TOUR continues…..
We HADto hit up TARTINE of course. This was our lunch spot. TARTINE is one of SF’s most well known restaurants. Mostly famous for this ridiculous bread pudding. Omgggggg. Gimme gimme moreeeee.
Here’s the problem…you walk up…you order…they hand you the dessert first, since it’s already prepared. Then, you go sit down with your number and wait for your actual lunch.
Well…..in the next shot you will see what we ordered. But in the meantime, let’s talk about HOW THE FUCK YOU’RE GONNA MAKE ME STARE AT MY DESSERT WHILE STARVING WITH NO LUNCH IN FRONT OF ME!!!

SO……we ate dessert before lunch. Bahahahahahaha.
We of course ordered the bread pudding, and I just HAD to try the lemon bar. I LOVE anything lemon. I had to.
So we both sat…moaned and ga-ga’d..(call it an orgasm) and devoured that shit. Wowowowowowow. It was so worth it, and people were staring. Then you see it…now you don’t.

Lunch is served…. Holy grail of GRILLED CHEESE! The “cheese tasting” sandwich. 3 different melted cheeses inside a perfectly pressed and crusty panini. Served with a delicious pickled carrot, and a green salad. This is where I gained pound 5.

We continued to walk and attempt to digest. This is what I appreciate most about this city. People are out..people walk everywhere..the art. Omg the STREET ART is just…OUT OF THIS WORLD. everywhere you look, vibrant splashes of color on the walls. Like real artists…not just all that gross tagging with sharpie shit you see all over LA.

The day, unfortunately, was coming to an end. I had to be at the airport by six. Of course, our thoughts immediately went to, ” well, I mean…..we have to have a last meal!”

Jesus. Here it comes.

Well. That was my idea of a fuckin vacation! I ate and drank through the damn city like a champ. Thank you to my beautiful friends who showed me such a wonderful time! Love u.

Alright y’all. I’ve been home now 4 days, and wanted to wait to post this so that I could review this 3 day cleanse by Juice Crafters. Hey guys!!!! Hope all of you had a fabulous weekend! For those of you who are in the Mid West or even East Coast….I’m so sorry for that nasty weather you’ve had:( ugh. I honestly don’t even know what that’s like. I’ve been fortunate enough to grow up most of my life, in sunny southern Cali, where the sun shines almost all year round:) I consider myself very lucky, trust me.

As you know, I realllllly fell off during the November and December, but I assure you that I am slowly getting back into the my healthy lifestyle. I suffered from a bit of binge eating the last couple months, yes I admit,  and I didn’t know how to control it. Deep breaths, I tell myself.
I’ve decided to change a few things about From Fries To Fit in the new year…one of them being, more dedication and focus on healthy recipes. As a new health blogger, I’ve noticed myself becoming a bit bored with trying to keep up with writing about fitness.
Listen, I’m into it, I swear. It’s just that I’ve found that I’m not that into writing about fitness. I will continue to share some workout stuff in my posts, but the main focus will be on RECIPES! with that, I will be including all of the macros for each recipe. Yeeaaayyyyy!!!

I’ve realized that my main issue…is with food. Yep. I can’t work out all day long. The one thing I need help with is controlling my food and making better decisions in general.

BREAKFAST PROTEIN COOKIES!

This has become an absolute favorite of mine! Sometimes good ol’ eggies just don’t cut it.

#1: This recipe is soooo damn easy, you could do that shit with your eyes closed!

#2: The flavor is rich in vanilla and absolutely kills the craving to have the other sugary naughty ones.

Those little brown things…those are carob chips (could also use sugar free chocolate chips, or 85% dark chocolate) . Now, thats optional, and would add a few extra calories to the mix, but they add loads of flavor and frankly….WORTH IT!

The one thing you MUST REMEMBER when cooking with protein powders, is that, they cook very fast. If not careful and aware, these babies can get tough. I say…try as couple batches:)
I made mine in a Breville convection oven, and they were done in literally 6 1/2 minutes!!!!!!

  • 1 scoop vanilla whey protein (I like this one)
  • ⅛ cup almond meal/flour ( I like this one)
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • 1 large egg white
  • ¼ cup unsweetened apple sauce
  • ½ tsp vanilla extract
Instructions
  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees
  2. Thoroughly combine all dry ingredients in a bowl.
  3. Using a fork, add in all wet ingredients, and mix well.
  4. removing all clumps.
  5. Using a slipmat, or a parchment paper lined cookie sheet, dollop your cookies using a spoon.
  6. Bake for 6-7 minutes
  7. Recipe makes 6 cookies.
  8. cookies=1 serving

Sunday Funday at county line in Malibu, CA.
YEP. 72 degrees and gorgeous.

I finally got to sport my new Billabong 4:3 wetsuit that the boo got me for Xmas!!! Yeay! I was amazing to finally not feel freezing in that water. We surfed for a bit, but after my head started pounding ( maybe cuz we had loadzzzzz of wine the night before) I got out and was ready for snacky time. My surfing is still pretty shit. Lol. A day at a time;)

I’m always VERY prepared when going to the beach.I bring a table. (I know…) I stock up on healthy snacks, like nuts, fruit, turkey roll-ups and of course a bit of sparkling wine;) We met up with some friends for an afternoon picnic and headed home.
I live for Sundays……sighhhhhhhhhh
Oh, and guess what…..
I met Marcin’s parents this weekend, and they were beyond cute! They made us a fab dinner along great wine, and (so thoughtful) a sugar free dessert! The sweetest couple.

On the morning of New Year’s Eve while watching Fox 11 news ( the only fucking channel that comes in on my bunny ears) …(yes, I don’t have cable) they mentioned some great ideas on getting home without drinking and driving. I am totally against that shit. One of them, was AAA offering to tow your car home within 7 miles of pickup!!!!! WHAAAAAAAAA!? Finally my AAA membership would come in to good use! Lol.

Well, get ready for the best part of this story.
While waiting for out “tipsy Tow”, your homies passed out in the car missing 3 AAA phone calls! We woke up at 5:30 A.m. Like, “wtf!”
I guess we’re sober now!!!!! Hahahha. We drove home and passed out again.
God……you really gotta love New Years!

JANUARY 1st.
Popped a few Ibuprofen to kick my champagne hangover, and we headed to beach! Woohoo;) it was sunny and beautiful out, so we weren’t missing it!

PARADISE COVE CAFE, MALIBU, here we come! 75 * and sunny….YES PLEASE!
Malibu is one of my favorite places to spend the day. If it wasn’t so far from my work, I would live here in a heart beat. This place is pretty awesome. Great for brunch, lunch, or dinner. The beach is kept super clean, and the best part…..you can drink on the beach here! (I sound like such an alcoholic, geeeeez) I’m saying this more cuz it’s the only was to kill the hangover. More champagne. Oh god. Lol.

The food is ridiculous!!!!!! RIDICULOUS GOOOOOOOD!
So much for starting my healthy diet on the first of the year!

After such an awesome and, to say the very least, GLUTTONOUS, we decided to take a walk along the water. It’s was so pretty out, and these fat kids needed to digest all those yummies. My girlfriend Mayra gave me these really cool PHOTOJOJO lenses for Christmas, I was dying to try them.

Staying on the subject of water, beach, drinking and hydration…. I want to introduce to you a really cool product. I’m not just bringing this up cuz it may or may not have cured my hangover, but also because it’s delicious! Cocozia contacted me about trying them out and I was happy to. This company, Epicurex, prides itself in only distributing all natural, and organic products. This water comes for the green coconut, and is full of essential electrolytes. Electrolytes are directly involved with body hydration and muscle function. Maybe that’s why I found that drinking this before and during a workout was pretty amazing. Apart from my love of wine, I really only drink water, an occasional Kevita, and coconut water. I usually stay away from beverages that contain very much (if any) sugar, so the “all coconut, no added sugars”, appealed to me. I get that everyone has their own fave, but I really loved this. Especially super- duper cold!
The best part….is that they’ve got some really interesting new flavors.

Onto some fitness news!
I am battling some feet injuries and sadly not able to do my usual Zumba workouts. Wompppppp wommmmp. The new year is definitely testing me. So far, workouts have been sparse. I’ve realized that, in order to heal, I’ve got to REST. And frankly, I can’t go hard like I used to. Sad really, but I’ve got to emprovise. I recently received an email from a freelance writer named Becky Flanigan regarding doing a guest post on From Fries To Fit about some fun ways to stay fit…IN THE WATER!
I am an absolute water baby! Oh, and I’m an Aquarius…I mean.
Check me out…… Yep, that’s me. Arms crossed, pissed for something super dumb, I’m sure. I grew up in a pool. My mother and grandfather were swim coaches, and I took after them. Practically a swimmer all my life.


This post and write-up couldn’t have come at a better time. With all this discomfort and pain I’ve been having, this is a perfect alternate that allows me to workout pain-FREE! Now, I just need a pool. Lol.;)

5 Great Aqua Aerobics Exercises To Stay Fit

I love to run, and try to do a weight workout as an alternative about once a week. As a busy Mom, it’s tough to fit in all my workouts, and especially to add in some cross-training. My favorite choice for some alternate exercises is aqua aerobics. I get the cardio of running and core benefit of ab work, and I’ve been pleasantly surprised at how much weight work I can get from water exercise. Here are 5 of my favorite aqua aerobics exercises:

1) Pool plank. For me, it’s all about keeping my core strong, and the plank, on land or water, works the core very efficiently. In the water, I stand on the pool floor, and take a noodle (a long solid rubber tube, great for pool exercise), and hold it horizontally in both hands, about shoulder width apart. Holding my arms straight out, I press down into the water, letting the noodle curl up around my arms on either side, then lean forward with my head out of the water. I watch the clock on the wall, and try to hold this position for 2 minutes. It gives me a great burn, and I know my abs are getting a great workout.

2) Become Spiderman. This is a great cardio exercise, and a lot of fun, too. I stand near the side of the pool, and sweep my hands back and forth like I’m treading water. I run my legs up the side of the pool, and then back down. I alternate my leading leg each time I climb, and do 4 sets of climbs. By that time, I’m breathing pretty hard, but if I have more energy left, I just add another set.

3) Cardio core ball running. Once I’ve gotten my heart rate up with the Spiderman, core ball running keeps it up and gives me more cardio workout. This exercise provides cardio plus core strength training, in one great combination. I take a 6 inch inflated ball and hold it in front of my navel. Then I run back and forth across the pool as fast as I can for 1 minute. I rest for 30 seconds, then do 3 more repetitions. I try to increase my speed each time, and by the end, I’m really breathing hard, which is just what I wanted.

4) One legged balance. To let me catch my breath, I do an exercise for balance and strength. I stand in waist deep water, and keeping my knee straight, lift one leg up, and put the noodle under my ankle. I keep my hands by my sides, and try to balance for one minute. I switch legs and do the other leg. If the kids are around, I have them jog in circles around me to create a current, which forces my core to work harder to keep my balance. The kids love it when they’re called on for this duty – they try to make me to step off the noodle, laughing the whole time. The beauty of this exercise in the water is that while balancing, I don’t risk the embarrassing fall I had one time when I tried this on land.

5) Fly backs. Now it’s time to throw in a weight element, and fly backs are great to work out my upper chest, back and arms – it also helps with my posture. I start in a lunge position, with my right knee bent, and my left leg extended behind me. I push my arms straight out in front of me about chest high. I spread my arms out to the sides, palms parallel to the water in a swimming motion, and boy, can you feel the resistance water gives in this one. I return my arms to the starting position, switching my hands to palms forward, and that is one rep. I do 4 sets of 8 to 15 reps, and switch the forward leg on each set. When I’m finished, I can really feel the effect on my upper body.
Those are some of my favorites aqua aerobic exercises, but there are plenty of other choices. Whether I’m looking for cardio work, or specific resistance exercises to parallel weight workouts, aqua aerobics can give me a wonderful exercise routine.

Happy NOVEMBER! Time to roast those pumpkins!

Hi loves!!! With Halloween behind us, I can’t hardly believe that the end of the year is upon us. As you know, Halloween has never been my favorite holiday, but I loveeeeee fall, so…. I had to show support and at least get dressed up. Here’s a shot of us at my girlfriend Kelly’s house. She threw a great lil party. Honestly….I have absolutely no clue what I was supposed to be, but, it kind of resembled a sheriff from New Mexico. Of course, a bit of a sexy version. Whatever. Lol.

Anyway…for those of you wondering…(since I never post pics of boys) this is Marcin. He’s dressed up as a “big black cloud” and he’s dreamy. Sighhhhhh

Ok, moving on to more fall news;) finally time to start getting rid of some of these sugar pumpkins all over my house. From decoration into my belly!!! I decided to cut this puppy up, and roast it.

Pumpkin is pretty tough in texture and typically takes quite some tie to roast and soften in the oven, so I cut it up into small squares to speed up the cooking. A lil impatient you could say…..
Here’s an idea of what to do with the seeds when you remove them from the inside of the pumpkin. Lord knows…I HATE wasting food. SWEET CACAO ROASTED PUMPKIN SEEDS.

These little pumpkin bites were roasted with:

HONEY

NUTMEG

CINNAMON

SALT & PEPPER

Roast at 400* for 40 minutes.

(note: pumpkin in itself isn’t very sweet. Do not get confused with “canned” pumpkin. When roasting real pumpkin, if you want it sweet, make sure to add a bit more honey to compensate for the bitterness.)

As you all know, Halloween comes with copious amounts of candy, on candy, on CANDY!!!!! Shit candy, really. Kit Kat, twix, snickers, ughhhhhhhhhh! I’m not gonna lie….I did give in and have a few. C’mon…who really didn’t have ANY shit candy?????

One of my favorite clients from the salon, Diane of Nerdhavenfarms.com has really hit the jackpot with these. I was a lucky son of a bitch to get to sample these sweet but slightly salty beer & Pretzel caramels. We have the best time when she comes into the salon. We chat, laugh, share blogging tips, compare recipes and bounce ideas. I love it. She has a total foodie like me!!

If I’m gonna get down on some sugar, I’d seriously prefer for it to be in this form; handmade with local ingredients, organic, & homemade with love! This is the best way to enjoy sweets my sweets! How freakin cute is there packaging though!!!???
I not only wanted to share these perfect little morsels because I LOVVVEEE them, but also because I was super inspired by Diane’s passion for whole, clean foods as well as her life balance of health with a bit of added sweetness;) I truly aspire to find that balance and find that passion. November is here!!!!! This is how naughty I’ve been…. I haven’t been posting enough, I know. We went from the end of oct-the begging of Nov without a post! Wtf! Well, November pretty much came so fast, it practically slapped me in the face! This past Sunday ( November 2) was a a very special day.
My best friend Alicia (on the right) and I, along with close family and friends ran the 6th annual Heroes of Hope grey ribbon crusade to continue brain cancer research, in which all proceeds benefit childhood and adult brain tumor research at UCLA, Children’s Hospital Los Angeles and Cedars-Sinai Hospital. Alicia’s uncle was recently diagnosed with a lrg brain tumor and is currently undergoing chemo through Cedars-Sinai. We pray that he recovers and continues to live a healthy and cancer free life.

Sporting my new Saucony “The guide 7” running shoes that they so graciously gifted to us at the Fitness magazine “Meet & Tweet” event.

The event was held at beautiful Dockweiler State Beach Park. I was surprised that the fog rolled out fairly early. We ran in sunny & beautiful weather:) Absolute best part: Loads and loads of supporters showed up!

For some reason, I thought we were gonna be running a 10k but apparently we signed up for the 5k. Whatever, I was just stoked to be running by the beach. It was actually perfect because I haven’t really been running lately, so a 10k at 7:30 am prooooobably wasn’t the best idea for my problematic, not trained feet. Lol. The 5k was perfect and super fun!

I came in 69th place. With a time of 26.38. Not too shabby! Well, for me;)

Any time, after a run….I am famished. Lol.

First day of week 9…LEGS.

Ok, so I didn’t actually do this whole workout today. Reason being, that I knew I had to teach Zumba at 7 pm and seriously thought it may be too much on my body. Sometimes, you just gotta be honest with yourself. I couldn’t do it.
My class was fantastic though and we had a great time finding out inner sexy bitch.
I surprised myself when I decided to stay for the next class, which was body sculpting.

Oh girllllllll! My body said “oh hell no!”
I immediately filled my tub with Morton’s Epsom salt, grabbed some reading material and soaked! Soaked my tired and sore muscles. Womp womppppppp.

August…it’s been real. HELLO SEPTEMBER!

Well, well, well…. If it isn’t already September….

Hi babes! Hope everyone had a fantastic & safe Labor Day weekend;) I just can’t believe that August has already flown by! There is still absolutely NO sign of the weather cooling down. Nope. In the valleys, it’s still triple digits! I need a pool! For the holiday weekend, me and some friends decided to get outta the smoldering, desert heat, and head to the beaches of Ventura, CA.

Pierpont Beach….. Amazing weather…amazing friends…and a whole lot of partying;)
Willy came along for the ride;)

We got there around 11:30, and set up our spot. I got the BEST lil table that folds up from crate and barrel, that I’m completely obsessed with, and take everywhere…so we payed out all our snacks and drinks:) we started with mimosas of course, but used light Minute Maid 50% less sugar OJ instead of regular. Some more friends met up, and we moved to light beer. There’s just something so refreshing about an ice cold beer at the beach. Michelob Ultra to be exact. It’s super light, and low carb! Cheers to fun & tan lines;)

Around 4:30 we headed up for a killer (&low carb) BBQ! It was amazing! Lean Jennie-O Italian sausages, marinaded chicken breast, carne asana, bell peppers, spinach salad… OHHH myyyyyyyy!
Chips & salsa…(not so low carb, but still indulged) oooooooo, and some homemade rum, vanilla liquor cake that my friend Jules had brought. A bit of a food coma set in, but, hey…it’s a holiday:) lol.

After din we all headed back down to enjoy the gorgeous sunset. Spectacular. Absolutely stunning.
That night, (sunday) we all went out in downtown Ventura, and had a ball. Super fun..lots of cocktails, and bar hopping. You know what that means…. Monday breakfast would be a cheat… Lol. I was dying for a rich, and delicious Blueberry Cornbread Muffin from Café Nouveau. Hands down fave breakfast joint.

Well, luckily..we made it home without traffic:)
Tuesday came far tooooooo fast.
Somehow, my pretty yellow roses lived though my un-air conditioned apartment for 2 days. WTF. So happy.

I woke up this morning feeling pretty defeated. I gotta tell ya, I cannot hang like I used to. My body was yelling at me for sure. I felt bloated, heavy, and lethargic. At that moment….I made some decisions.
Chill the Fu*% out…

Chill on the drinking!

I quit sugar. (Again)

Stick to low carb… ( with the exception of these healthy carbs: sweet potato (limited) squash. Tomatoes (limited) most fruits. Gluten free oats (sometimes)

Limit snacking.

Breakfast this morning was DA BOMMMBBBB! Doesn’t look very exciting, but it was exactly what my body was screaming for. Protein..protein..and omegas. Lol.
Work didn’t start till 11:00 am, so I had time to bake a fresh wild caught salmon:)
I made a delicious runny egg and yes, I did eat the yolk. Yummmmmm. I’m a new person.
Lately I’ve stopped using oil sprays, even the organic ones. I’m just over them. I’ve now switched to a teeny bit of coconut oil or Ghee.

From my kitchen to yours: NEW sweet and savory recipes: Vanilla Protein Pound cake & healthy Baba Ganoush!

Hello and good day fabulous friends! I’ve got soooo much to tell you! Like, big stuff!! on second thought…. im gonna save the big personal news for later. For now… even BETTER stuff I’ve got for ya! so, lets get right to it! Most of you know that I am obsessed with my fellow blogger’s site, proteinpow.com, and I’ve been making her broccoli protein bread for what seems to be ages now. Well, loving that recipe so much…I decided to try a little something out.
Every time I would make this broccoli bread, the consistency would remind me of a yummy, squishy piece of pound cake. Ok, squishy mayyyyyy not be the best term. Hmmm, more like soufflé -yyyy, but dense like a pound cake.
Anyway…blah blah….on this morning, my sweet tooth had kicked into overdrive, and I needed something…like, QUICK!

Glancing at her Broccoli Protein Bread recipe, I pondered while my stomach screamed for sweetness. I thought…ok..sub broccoli for cauliflower (milder flavor)…then, sub unflavored whey for vanilla whey….OMGGGGGGGG. ummm, hi NEW FAVE SHIT!
I gotta tell ya’ it’s seriously bomb.com. I’ve been having a portion every morning topped with a little ghee and sugar free honey. This honestly couldn’t be a better way to enjoy your protein powder. I’m sure I’m not the only one who gets sick of shakes, right!?

Vanilla Protein Pound Cake
OMMMGGGGG!!! amazing…and completely guit-free!

Serves: 4
Ingredients
  • ½ cup steamed cauliflower
  • ½ cup egg whites (I used organic egg whites from Trader Joe’s)
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 cup vanilla Protein powder. ( I used About Time Vanilla protein)
  • 4 drops stevia
  • 1 tsp Vanilla bean extract
  • pinch of salt
  • pinch of cinnamon
Instructions
  1. Steam ½ cup of cauliflower.
  2. Heat oven to 325 degrees and grease a small loaf pan.
  3. In a medium bowl add all ingredients including steamed cauliflower, and mix with either a handmixer or throw it all in a blender.
  4. Bake for 30-40 min depending on oven. should be slightly browned on top and a bit firm to touch.

Serving size: 2-3 sm. slices Calories: 178 Fat: 2 Carbohydrates: 2 Sugar: 0 Protein: 37

Now….a couple of notes. Although a very easy recipe to assemble, please be aware of the size of pan in conjunction with the cooking time. I used a loaf pan, (not the standard one) if you do use a standard size one, lower baking time.

The best part about this recipe….for 1 serving (3 small slices) there is a whopping 37 grams of protein!!!!!! WTF! To keep sugar and carbs low..choose this brand.I made sure to calculate accurately through My Fitness Pal. Un—believable! Check out the rest of the nutrition facts in the above printable recipe.

I was on one this weekend. Kitchen mode to the max! I boomerang often from sweet to savory, then back from savory to sweet. Story of my life. I can’t win. Pretty much always hungry. Lol.

Some delicious HOMEMADE HEALTHY BABA GANOUSH

Eggplant is my JAM! I usually grill it, roast it, even dehydrate it sometimes creating a raw eggplant jerky, but for some reason…have never tried making baba ganoush.. UNTIL NOW!!!! Don’t ask why the hell I haven’t made it yet, cuz I order it every time when at a Greek or Mediterranean restaurant. It’s smooth and soooo yummy. Even people who aren’t such eggplant fans tend to eat this shit up!
Because of the roasting…the eggplant becomes soft, almost caramelized. It’s divine.

This recipe has totally lasted me. The serving is 3 tbsp for 90 calories! amazeballz. I’ve been putting on top of flax crackers, salads, chicken, along side my roasted veggies… You name it! It’s very mild and creamy and I know you will swoon over this recipe!

Homemade Babaganoush
Make your own, and save yourself from all the added fat and preservatives!

Recipe type: Mediterranean
Ingredients
  • 2 med. eggplants (roasted)
  • 1 tbsp tahini
  • 1 tbsp olive oil
  • 2 tbsp fresh lemon juice
  • ½ tsp cumin
  • 2-3 minced garlic cloves
  • ¾ tsp sea salt (can always add more for taste)
  • 1 tbsp finely chopped parsley
  • pinch of paprika (optional)
Instructions
  1. slice eggplants in half. Place cut side up on a baking/roasting pan or sheet.
  2. pierce several times with fork.
  3. Roast at 400 degrees for 40-45 mins.
  4. Once cooked, let sit to cool.
  5. Spoon out meat, and toss the skin.
  6. Place roasted eggplant, along with all other ingredients into a Vitamix or food processor and pulse or blent until desired consistency is met. Smooth is ideal.

Sundays are quite possibly my absolute favorite day of the wk. It’s Wednesday, and I’m still taking about Sunday. Lol. I love hitting up the farmers market by my house and trying out something new every time. Of course….I love to share my new goodies that I think everyone should try too;)

First up…
My first time buying sushi grade wild salmon. Holy mother of pearl!!!!! Why haven’t I EVER done this!? I bought a huge slab and have been goooogoooo gaga-ing for 3 days straight! I’ve now stuck the other piece in the freezer to grill later. For some reason, while at the Sunday market, I always would just pass by the fish guy, and pay not an ounce of attention. On this day, I was alllllll about it. Maybe it’s because my red meat eating days are pretty much behind me for the most part.

Let me give you a tid bit of info on why you should fall in love with salmon and why it’s considered the world’s healthiest food.

**With so much focus on the amazing omega-3 benefits of salmon, other unique health benefits from salmon may have been inadvertently overlooked. One fascinating new area of health benefits involves the protein and amino acid content of salmon.

I literally got home and immediately sliced up some of that gorgeous fish…dabbed it with crushed garlic and topped with green onion. Ridiculous and FULL of protein!!!

I’ve mentioned Nary Dairy before but this time…it’s a new flavor! I’m so stoked that this little non-dairy vegan/raw cheese has come into my life. It is amazing and every flavor I try just keeps getting better and better! This time I got “chia cheddar”.
Once again…couldn’t be a cleaner, healthier version of cheese. No gimmicks…no preservatives…no nothin’ but gorgeous ingredients.

I also picked up a bottle of home brewed kombucha from a local. This bottle is freakin huge! I had never heard of this company before, as I believe it’s fairly new, but I’m an stoked that I found Probiotic Boost!

Just look at er!!! She’s perfect! Juicy and ripe! That’s right. This is my ultimate. I could eat 5 in a row. They are the tastiest crop right now. The MANGO NECTARINE. I’ve even been throwing them in my morning juices and it makes my life complete!!!

The 4th of JULY is tomorrow, and I am soooo excited, I could do cartwheels. ;). Yup.

Yada,yaya,yada…Well, what can I say, I had yet, another fabulous weekend, and a great start to my week. Busy as ever, so I will try my best to catch you guys up on the latest and greatest in Paula world;)
Remember, as of APRIL 1, I will finally have Wednesdays off from the salon to focus on my blogging and ZUMBA, woooohooooooo! I feel like so much has happened since the last we spoke!

Let’s start with my bridal shower meeting on Sunday with the girls. No, not my bridal shower, (puleeeaaazeee) my bestie Brooke’s. Remember……San Fran weekend????? Lol.
Alicia hosted a fabulous brunch at her house in which she served homemade yummy fajitas, with low carb tortillas ( love her), fresh fruit salad ( bananas, strawberries, blackberries, blueberries)
Champagne, and fresh squeezed OJ.

I mean, how freakin cute is this. She had made pamphlets for each one of us that included:

We accomplished soooo much, and designated assignments for each one of us. Super stoked on my job… LOW CARB DESSERTS AND SANGRIA! I’m about to blow this shit out da water!

Today is officially the first day of SPRING, and I am on it like white on rice! Stopped at the farmers market this weekend and picked up some beautiful fresh flowers to brighten up the house. I am feeling spring, FOR SURE, except that…for some reason….I’m in all black today. Hmmmm. Weird.

I went a little overboard with all the damn flowers, lol. It may or may not be a bit much.

So, as you all know, I’m gearing up to teach Zumba, so this weekend was full of practicing. Writing down the routine helps immensely… One DVD after another…

Not as much as dancing the routine in front of the mirror though!! I would catch up on some bills, and blogging, then jump into a routine while yelling out Q’s. Lord bless my neighbors. Loud Latin music, yelling, and stomping. Keeping it classy.

Later that day, I joined the Sandy Campy Fitness team for a meeting about the new upcoming schedule. I will be teaching Wednesday mornings at 10:30 am, and Thursday nights at 8:00pm. We had loads of fun, ate delicious pot stickers and a raw kale salad. Oh, I forgot…..and BOMB ASS chocolate mousse cake. Yummmmmmmmmm. Sandy is so sweet. Before we left, she gave each one of us a cute little heart shaped gem stone on a chain. Along with the stone, we also got a list of different gems and what each color stands for. Love my new team:)

Made sure to take time to do a bit of grocery shopping as well. Trying a few new things.
Jarlsberg LITE Swiss cheese. ( 1 slice= 3.5 fat, 0 carbs, 9 protein)
Suzie’s kamut cakes (30 calories, 0 fat, 5 carbs)
Applegate herb turkey slices ( 2 oz= 0 fat, 0 carbs, 10 protein)

Words you, and I should live by….. This is totally true. Seriously…because knowing me, after a couple glasses of wine…..I start raiding the pantry. Not a good look on anybody. If there’s anything remotely unhealthy in my house, trust me, it’s gone in 2 seconds…all of it. I’m trying to work on this. I promise.lol.
My most exciting purchase this weekend! I’ve been looking for the perfect Popsicle molds and hallelujah!!! I have found them! I stopped into Crate & Barrel and of course, wanted to buy everything…and saw these from the corner of my eye. The best part was, they were 13 bucks for 6 molds! Please do follow one of my favorite instagram friends who inspired me to start making protein pops. FITALICIOUS_ME. Time for summer…and ice cream;)

Best news of all!! I taught a song in Sandy’s class last night! My first time front and center:) It was AWESOME! The room was full of fantastic vibes, and I had my Spartos to keep me hydrated and full of energy!

Weekend MASH-UP<3

Hope everyone enjoyed this beautiful weekend! One of my besties came in from New York and I couldn’t have been happier to see him;) it was a pretty mellow weekend, but I had to get a lot done. You know, the usual… Gym..laundry…haircuts…cook..visit the folks…Sunday morning, I started with a fasted morning mostly cardio workout.

Took my L-CARNITINE (empty stomach)
BCAA+g mixed in water for during and after workout.

I’ve been trying to work on the abs more lately. They’re getting better, but to be honest, my cheat meals are catching up to me. That is why I HATE “cheat meals” uhhhh. They turn into triggers for bad decision making for me.
Anyway… This morning cardio was exhausting.

30 min on elliptical (high intensity intervals)
1 mile run at 6.7
30 second sprints for 5 minutes God, locker pics are so silly. Lol
I’ve got my essentials.

Since I did a fasted workout this morning, I was ready for something in my belly as soon as I got in the car! My trustie Quest bar. These bars are my go-to source of a post workout meal. The coconut is probably my favorite flavor. No artificial sweeteners. Loves it. Soooo good, best part for me…( for my lazy digestive tract) a great source of fiber too;)

I planned to go to the folks house today, but not before hitting up the Sunday farmers market. I changed outta my sweaty ass clothes, grabbed my recyclable bags, and headed to the farmers.
I stocked up on:

cauliflower

Onions

Cilantro

Parsley

Swiss chard

Strawberries

Grapefruit

Tomatoes

I sample absolutely everything at that place, so I leave feeling like I just had another meal:)
Today’s lunch at Mom and Dad’s house. No BBQ today. I had to run around and get some clients in, so we really didn’t have time, but he’ll, this ishhhhh was the bomb! Super easy lunch. Ground turkey and a side salad. Yummmmmm and full of lean protein.
We watched a movie as I finished my million loads of laundry. Don’t judge, yes, I took my laundry to my parents house. Weekday laziness brought me to this


By 4:30, I left because I had the bestie coming to stay with me before heading back to New York, and we had dinner plans. Where else, but my favorite Mexican restaurant walking distance from my house… Casa Vega.
Total fatty at dinner. Inhale a basket of chips. Yes, I know. But shared a taco salad( no dressing) and shrimp cocktail with my friend, so not that gnarly. We had the best margaritas! Fresh cucumber margiessss!

Made with real muddled cucumber, tequila, fresh lime, and agave…but, you know me….” Um, no agave please” little did they know, I had my stevia drops stashed in my purse;) lol. They were amazing! I will most def be trying these at home! Hello, LOW CARB OPTION!

We came back to my house after dinner and Alicia poured us some wine. Well, apparently I’ve broken all my wine glasses in the dishwasher, cuz she somehow found what she thought were a good alternate….. She hands us my centerpiece candle holders! Hahaha. She was all..”what? I thought they were just extra large cups!?” Lol. Bless her.
God, we freakin laughed our asses off all night! Alicia, and Brian’s brother left, so me and Brian decided to run across the street to 7-11 and get ice cream like a bunch of fat kids. We watched some crazy ass scary movie and passed out. Don’t judge, but I had 1/2 a pint. Lol
The next thing I’m about to tell you will absolutely shock you!!

I SLEPT IN TILL 10:30!!!!

It was my first time trying my Irish moss! Wooohoooo! It ended up being a great thickener, and I didn’t taste it at all! Three it all in the vitamix. Happy girl. My guiltless breakfast of champs. All of these ingredients are amazing alone, but when put together are like miracle workers. Immediately, I felt less bloated. Last night was a bit much. If your in search of a good probiotic… I recommend this one. Keep it refrigerated. 42 billion live active cultures. Stoked! I open one capsule and add it to my shakes, or you can just take the pill form. Either way, AMAZING!

I had to take Brian to the airport at 1:30, so I made sure to drag him out for a hike before we left. It was such a gorgeous day, we couldn’t pass it up. Plus, he was about to head straight back to blizzard central New York, I figured he needed a bit of sunshine!

We hiked gorgeous Fryman canyon. 1 hour start to finish. Uphill to midway point. Not too difficult, but just right;) The best part…. Lol. I ran into an ex hiking up. He was coming towards me, and I wanted to die, cuz he was with a chick. Omg. It was just all around awkward, lets just say that. Hahahaha. This is a small town apparently. After hike snack before heading to the airport:
1/2 a bulb raw fennel
And a handful of strawberries.
I also tried a sample of AMINOLAST by Gaspari Nutrition. I shook this up to save for my ZUMBA+bodysculpting tonight.

I returned home from LAX hungry of course, so I made a quick salad with some favorites.

Arugula
Cilantro
Parsley
Ground beef/ thin sliced beef
Chipotle cayenne nutritional yeast
Siracha

Delicious, light, and low carb.

Before Zumba at 7, my girlfriend & fellow health enthusiast J fit came over for a haircut. We decided to have a light dinner before class, cuz we don’t get home till 9:30 usually on Mondays. Yes, that is too late for dinner.;)

We roasted:
brussel sprouts
Cauliflower
Baby broccoli
Onions
Zucchini

A salad made up of:
arugula
Cilantro
Parsley
Apples
Tomatoes
Turkey bacon
Lemon
Blood orange infused olive oil
Salt & pepper

It was super good, except for….. Maybe we shouldn’t have had so much cauliflower before dancing our asses off. Lol. Ughhhhhhh.
Btw….I don’t know if I’ve mentioned to you yet, but, I have decided to finally do it! That’s right, I will be ZUMBA certified as of march 23rd!! Yahooooo. DOIN werrrrrkkkkkkk;) be on the lookout! Yes, I fu*%ing love brocollini!!!!
