Hi babes! Hope everyone had a fantastic & safe Labor Day weekend;) I just can’t believe that August has already flown by! There is still absolutely NO sign of the weather cooling down. Nope. In the valleys, it’s still triple digits! I need a pool! For the holiday weekend, me and some friends decided to get outta the smoldering, desert heat, and head to the beaches of Ventura, CA.

We got there around 11:30, and set up our spot. I got the BEST lil table that folds up from crate and barrel, that I’m completely obsessed with, and take everywhere…so we payed out all our snacks and drinks:) we started with mimosas of course, but used light Minute Maid 50% less sugar OJ instead of regular. Some more friends met up, and we moved to light beer. There’s just something so refreshing about an ice cold beer at the beach. Michelob Ultra to be exact. It’s super light, and low carb! Cheers to fun & tan lines;)

Around 4:30 we headed up for a killer (&low carb) BBQ! It was amazing! Lean Jennie-O Italian sausages, marinaded chicken breast, carne asana, bell peppers, spinach salad… OHHH myyyyyyyy!
Chips & salsa…(not so low carb, but still indulged) oooooooo, and some homemade rum, vanilla liquor cake that my friend Jules had brought. A bit of a food coma set in, but, hey…it’s a holiday:) lol.

After din we all headed back down to enjoy the gorgeous sunset. Spectacular. Absolutely stunning.
That night, (sunday) we all went out in downtown Ventura, and had a ball. Super fun..lots of cocktails, and bar hopping. You know what that means…. Monday breakfast would be a cheat… Lol. I was dying for a rich, and delicious Blueberry Cornbread Muffin from Café Nouveau. Hands down fave breakfast joint.

Well, luckily..we made it home without traffic:)
Tuesday came far tooooooo fast.
Somehow, my pretty yellow roses lived though my un-air conditioned apartment for 2 days. WTF. So happy.

I woke up this morning feeling pretty defeated. I gotta tell ya, I cannot hang like I used to. My body was yelling at me for sure. I felt bloated, heavy, and lethargic. At that moment….I made some decisions.
Chill the Fu*% out…

Chill on the drinking!

I quit sugar. (Again)

Stick to low carb… ( with the exception of these healthy carbs: sweet potato (limited) squash. Tomatoes (limited) most fruits. Gluten free oats (sometimes)

Limit snacking.

(Holiday..or not!)
Listen, all of these things I’ve got to keep reminding myself, and even write down because THIS IS WHAT WORKS FOR ME.

I threw on shorts and a sports bra and looked up today’s GPP Fitness WOD.
This was a really great one. Kicked my ass.
Not too busy at work today, so I also plan to take a Corepower class around 4:30 today… Really starting to feel like myself again, after a few days of whatever the fu%*.

Breakfast this morning was DA BOMMMBBBB! Doesn’t look very exciting, but it was exactly what my body was screaming for. Protein..protein..and omegas. Lol.
Work didn’t start till 11:00 am, so I had time to bake a fresh wild caught salmon:)
I made a delicious runny egg and yes, I did eat the yolk. Yummmmmm. I’m a new person.
Lately I’ve stopped using oil sprays, even the organic ones. I’m just over them. I’ve now switched to a teeny bit of coconut oil or Ghee.

A large handful of spinach leaves.

Low sodium organic turkey slices. (3)

1 small avocado

2 hard boiled eggs. (Only 1 yolk)

1 tbsp apple cider vinegar.

side note: I just got back from Corepower Yoga.. Holy mother of god!! That yoga sculpt class kicked my ass soooo hard!

Hey y’all!!! Hope everyone’s week is off to a fabulous start! Before I get into it…I must admit: 3 cheat meals last week. Omg. Ok..I’m done. Moving on:) Today is gonna be fab. Not too many plans. Seeing the dentist today…which, love him I swear…but I hate having to see him. Lol.
I spent Sunday with the folks so…sadly, I missed hitting up my usual Farmer’s Market, so I had to get my weekly dose of fresh flowers from Whole Foods. Aka: Super fucking expensive flower selection. This week, it’s white roses. Feeling like a virgin;)
Aren’t they perfect? And…they smell like heaven.

Ok, so I know it’s not #flexfriday but, I had to show off my new Reebok cross fit tank!
Of course I won’t be showing it off without the hard work that comes with that shit! Lol

Hit the gym early this A.M. to get in a sweaty cardio session in before having to get my mouth drilled.
I did 30 minutes of alternating resistance on the elliptical.

then…
15 minutes on stairmaster on “fit test”

You see. My problem is never a lack of motivation to work out, it’s more my diet. I do really well for a bit, then tend to throw it all out the window for a couple days. No bueno. All that work…and sometimes for nothing. What has improved, is my guilt and self punishment. I have gotten sooooo much better at controlling the binges, and refusing to feel guilty.

I’m babbling. Give this workout a try. If this is all you do all week, then be it. Remember…just move. You’re beating everyone on the couch;)

So, 10:00 A.M. Came damn quick. Ughhhhhhhh. Time for some really exciting dental work.
I have to get… Wait for it…. A CROWN!!!!! Ajhhhhhhhhh. Sick.
This is my amazing, genius dentist, Dr. Ourfalian.

Listen, I hate dental work as much as the next cry baby, but he just, absolutely makes the visit sooooo pleasant. He is very gentle, conservative & very honest. Everyone that I’ve recommended to him, has loved him.

I don’t think I have good teeth genes, so I’ve really got to keep with regular 6 month cleanings, as well as flossing after every meal. Do you guys really floss after every meal? I feel like a creep for only flossing once a day. Sometimes, I even forget to do that. Omg. So bad. I started to notice that my gums would bleed when I would floss sometimes…and, that my friends…is NOT THE BUSINESS!

The rest of the day was free. (Yeayyyyyyyy) I got home & of course, I was starving. One problem….if I tried to eat anything that required chewing, I would chew off my tongue. So, I had extra cooked oatmeal with flax milk, chia seeds, raisins, mashed figs, and protein powder.
Oh, and a fudgesicle.lol.

Since I didn’t get to my 1000 cal burning workout (above), I thought maybe I would make it to a late night yoga class.
Yep….it’s now 7:30 p.m…..haven’t been able to get off the couch from so much mouth pain.
No more anesthesia. Haha.
Hey, getting a crown is not exactly pain free kids. Wow.
Instead….I cooked the rest of the day. Making dinner and meal prepping tomorrow’s packed lunch.
I hadn’t gone grocery shopping, but I pulled out a few fridge staples, And made something sooooo yummy for dinner.

Ingredients

Instructions
  1. Pre-heat oven 375 degrees.
  2. slice both zucchinis lengthwise.
  3. With a small spoon, scoop out the center.
  4. Add ½ a wedge of The Laughing Cow Garlic & Herb LIGHT cheese into each ½ of zucchini.
  5. Lightly sauté thinly sliced shallots and chopped garlic.
  6. Top stuffed boats with sauté mix.
  7. bake face up for 25 minutes.

These are also great for party appetizers! The cheese wedges have so much great flavor that you don’t have to saturate them in sauce or loads of salt & spices.

While skimming through my instagram feed, I came across @angelamccafferty and her ridiculous…super healthy recipe, motivation, and fitness profile. I searched through her pics, and found my inspiration for tonight’s dessert!
Just a few alterations to the recipe… Check it out…print that shit…and make it every night!

Moist, MOST delicious MUG cake w/peanut butter topping

Ingredients
  • CAKE
  • 2 tbsp organic coconut flour
  • 1 tbsp Vanilla protein powder
  • ¼ tsp baking powder
  • 1 packet of stevia
  • a pinch of pure vanilla bean powder or vanilla extract
  • ¼ organic egg whites
  • 2 tbsp 0% greek yogurt
  • 2 tbsp Flax milk, unsweetened almond milk, or water
  • TOPPING
  • 1 tbsp PB2
  • 2 tbsp 0% chobani greek yogurt

Instructions
  1. Mix all dry ingredients in a bowl.

  3. Add all wet ingredients & mix well.
  4. Transfer to a greased mug or small bowl.
  5. Microwave in 1 minute increments .
  6. Make sure to leave a bit of space because cake will rise as it’s cooked.
  7. -3 minutes
  8. For topping:
  9. mix pb2 and yogurt and top cake.

Happy Tuesday lovelies! It’s been a FABULOUS day today, I must say….I’m absolutely loving my new job at Román Salon!
This morning I didn’t have a client till 11 am, so I took full advantage;) I woke up to my 5:45 A.M. iPhone alarm, thinking I would catch the 6:00 A.M. Hotyoga class at corepower, but instead, I decided to leave that for the evening and take a morning hike:)
Of course I woke up with a rumbling hungry tummy (as I always do) so, I quickly whipped up some super clean ( & low carb) coconut flour/banana pancakes. Here’s the recipe.

MAKES 8 SMALL PANCAKES

8 tbsp coconut flour

1/2 packet of stevia

7 egg whites

2 large eggs

1/2 mashed banana

Dash of cinnamon (optional)

NOTE: they cook pretty fast on a greased skillet, soooo, watch em’
I topped them with a little sugar free honey & figs:)

** COCONUT FLOUR
** ALMOND FOUR
** VANILLA (ALL NATURAL) PROTEIN POWDER
** EGG WHITES
** EGGS
** FROZEN/FRESH BANANAS
** STEVIA
** PB2
** GLUTEN FREE OATS
** 0% GREEK YOGURT
** UNSWEETENED ALMOND MILK
** FLAX MEAL
** ORGANIC CACAO POWDER
** CHIA SEEDS
** RAW NUT BUTTERS

These are usually my go-to baking products. All of these are available at your local health food market, so stock up your pantry, and get to playing and testing in that kitchen of yours! Staying on track of your healthy habits has never been so easy or delicious! Honestly, my substitutions for naughty breakfasts has kept me very satisfied, and I never feel as though I’m “missing out”. Get me?

Before heading out on my morning hike to Fryman Canyon, I made my morning green juice which consisted of the the following:

* 1 big Swiss chard leaf

* 4 Dino kale leaves

* 3 big romaine leaves

* a handful of parsley

* 2 stalks celery

* 1 small Persian cucumber

* fresh ginger

* fresh turmeric

* 1/2 green apple

* 1 lemon
I also have been adding some new faves to the mix:

**whole aloe juice

**chlorophyll
I have really been feeling the difference when having one of these in the morning.

It’s been such a hectic couple of weeks, that my folks offered to babysit Willy for this week, and I couldn’t be more greatful. I’m sorry, but having a pup with severe separation anxiety can be really stressful. I always feel so bad when I can’t be with him all the time. It stresses me out thinking about it frankly. So, luckily…he LOVES going to his grandparents house. Ugh…does it make me a bad mommy that I need a break????:(
Mom, sent me a pic of willy this morning. Look at him!!! Sooo happy! She took him to the park, and he ran wild!

Although pretty foggy still out, the hike was awesome! I would say, the loop ties about an hour all together. It’s a nice balance of uphill/downhill. If your into hiking, or even trail running/racing….you have GOT to get these trainers! They are so lightweight and fit like a dream. Oh, and no laces;) the Saloman Speedcross 3′s are THE ONLY SHOE TO BUY!!

I like seeing shoes worn and dirty. Gives them life.

By now, 8:30 am, I’ve still got an hour to kill before hopping in the shower. God I love this schedule!
Anyway, as you know….the weakest part of my body is my core. I remembered that last night, I had received my Spartan Race WOD email, and I was alllllllllll AB intense, so I threw my tired ass on the floor and started crunching, twisting, lifting, you name it…I was doin’ it. Lol.
Ok….now I’m DONE!

Had a really great day at work. Was fully booked from 11-4, then came home:) a little weird coming home to an empty house. I’m used to Willy crying and jumping up like a crazy for 45 minutes after I walk through the door. Lol.

I almost didn’t know what to do with myself being off so early. I’m used to not getting home till 7 on Tuesdays.
I had a quick snack and headed to CorePower for a 6:00P.M. Hot Power Fusion class. Although a bit tired, I felt really strong in today’s class.

I literally walk out of there dripping. As if I just got out of the shower. It’s so crazy. I tried to take a pic of how sweaty I was, but it really doesn’t suffice. In fact, this is a pretty dumb picture. Lol

I was starved after class, so I reheated some leftover baked salmon, and through it over a big salad. Omg, I just can’t get enough salmon these days. For dessert, I ate another one of those delicious pancakes from this morning. I couldn’t help it. Totally obsessed.
I’m actually in a bit of a food coma right now as I write this, so please excuse my grammatical errors and bad language, I swear, it’s my body telling me to shut the f*%k up and go to bed;)

Before I pass the EFF out, I am super excited about what I recently got in the mail!! Eeeeeeeeeeweeaaaaa, I love my friends at APS. (Allproscience) They have sent me some super sweet samples of recovery to try out. I’m super active, and just as important as fueling your body before a workout is, so is RE-fueling your body after. These are 100% natural, and have no artificial sweeteners. I am so feeling that. I seriously hate gimmicks. These peeps give to ya straight. Happy Sunday lovelies!!!!

It is a mighty HOT one today! Up bright and early this A.M. And ready for a packed day:) first things first, COFFEE! Then, tidy up the house. The folks are stopping by today… After scarfing down 1/2 a quest bar and pounds of fresh cut watermelon, I headed to my favorite Sunday hotspot, the Farmer’s Market.

Went a lil kookoo:) Always buying more than I actually need. I’m back to juicing, so I made sure to lots of greens and fruits.

Best part about the Farmer’s, are the fresh flowers! Today, I picked up 4 bunches of beautiful dahlias. They’re literally in every room now…until, of course, I forget to change the water, and they all wilt. Lol. The worst, I am.

Oh, yes….there was a new lady in town selling her homemade RAW cashew cheese. I tried it, and of course had to buy it. It was delicious. I’ve always loved the raw lifestyle, and incorporate it into my day to day diet as much as possible. Although I don’t think I could ever be fully raw, like…everrrr, I like the idea of its principles sometimes:) part-time. Lol

Nary Dairy is produced by a husband/wife team out of the Chefs Center in Pasadena, offering the “The cream of the Non-Dairy crop” with plenty of delicious cashew cheese flavors to choose from. It’s seriously a nice alternative! Loving them!

I’ve been throwing in a small beet in my morning juices, so I bought a bunch this morning to stock up. Anyway, you know the green leaves coming out of the beet? Well, I used to always cut that bit off, and toss it. Wtf. I guess I just thought it was good for nothin’. Poor beet greens, so misunderstood:(

WellllllI….I finally found a way to not let any of it go to waste! And guess what!? It’s the bommmmbbbbbb!

Nutty Garlicky Sauteed Beet Greens
 
Prep time

A delicious way to enjoy Beet greens! But the bitterness with loads of flavor! Yummmmm
Author:
Serves: 3-4

Ingredients
  • 2-3 big bunches Beet greens with some stem(washed thoroughy)
  • 2 whole galic cloves
  • 1 large Shallot
  • 1 tbsp coconut oil
  • 2 tbsp sherry vinegar (or red wine vinegar)
  • 2 tbsp water
  • 1 tsp organic honey or a few drops stevia
  • 1-2 tsp sesame seeds ( as desired)
  • salt & pepper
  • ¼ tsp cayenne or crushed red pepper flakes

Instructions
  1. Rinse beet greens very well.
  2. In a medium skillet or wok, heat 1 tbsp coconut oil on low-med heat.
  3. *Add thinly sliced shallot. Sautee until soft.
  4. *Add clean beet greans.
  5. *Salt, Pepper, & spicy pepper NOW.
  6. *Raise temp to Medium.
  7. *Add water, honey, and vinegar, and sautee for 5-7 minutes.
  8. *Add garlic last.
  9. *Once sauteed to desired softness, stir in sesame seeds.

Today’s WOD was GPP FITNESS, Cardio Tababta.
Lets just say…it was gnarly. I did this at home before heading out for the day, and because I don’t have a row machine, I subbed that move for back rows with a theraband. Try this one out, it’s awesome! 8 rounds of each move for 20 sec work/ 10 sec rest.

If you don’t know what a move is. Don’t worry. On their site, you can click on the excessive, and it immediately takes you to YouTube, where everything is explained to you very quick and efficiently.

Time to relax:) Mom and Pop picked me up, and we headed to Santa Monica to celebrate this pretty’s 1st BIRTHDAY!!!!! My baby cousin Emma:) she’s perfect!

New fitness fave… COREPOWER YOGA.
I got really into while in Canada, so when I got back, I decided to give them a try. They are just a few blocks from my house, but check out their site, they’ve got studios everywhere. It’s mostly heated yoga, but offer non heated as well, and have amazing hours. I’m takin’ from 6:00 am to 9:00 p.m. I’ve been going probably 3 times a week, and feel incredible.

Helooooo..helllllllllooooooo! I’m back! Just feeling like I’m finally getting back into my groove and this week has started off AMAZING! My house is still a bit messy, but hey. Whatever.
Started off the week full force at the gym and now a proud new member of COREPOWER yoga.
I’m really into it right now, and the best part…. It doesn’t irritate the tendonitis! Thank god. I used to loathe yoga, now…it’s the ONLY thing that makes me focus in every sense of the word. My breath…awareness in my body and allowing myself to truly understand how to clear my racing mind. So into it! I’ve been doing the heated fusion classes, but still really enjoy traditional and non-heated.
Anyway… I am feeling strong, and I’m enjoying my new practice and progress.
What are you guys into right now? Do you listen to your body?

My breakfasts lately have been incredible POG’s!!! that’s right.. (pots of greatness!) my Instagram friends inspire me to change it up constantly. 1- to stay excited about clean yummy foods and 2- especially to avoid binging eating.
I literally fill a mason jar full of super delicious & nutritious foods such as
chia seeds in unsweetened almond milk, & maca powder

It is actually low in sugar, but I’m not a huge fan of sugar alcohols. I used to not mind them, And I’m sure a lot of you also don’t, but lately, I’ve noticed that when I consume certain sugar alcohols, I get gassy, and bloated. Not cute.

Yeay!! The weekend is finally here! Happy Sunday babes! Today is SUPERBOWL Sunday, and I’ve decided, instead of going to a bar, I would watch it on my cozy couch! I honestly just couldn’t be bothered to go out. It was a super busy and FIT morning, and I’ve got a lot of great stuff to share today, so I figured I could stream the game on my computer (since my loser ass doesn’t even have a cable box) and catch up on some blogging:)

Last night my girlfriends took me out for some delicious Mexican food to celebrate my bday;) a few days late… I love when my birthday drags out for a week.
We had skinny margaritas
And shared chicken fajitas,chips and guacamole,and a beef taco salad.
Oh I almost forgot…the flan I devoured.
We gossiped all night long, and you wouldn’t believe when I say that, I actually slept in till 730 this morning!! WooooHoooooo!
I think my body just needed it.
So this morning, I woke up refreshed and ready to start my scheduled workout and clean eating week. (My wk starts on Sundays)

Hallelujah for Purely Twins who share such great ideas for low carb eaters! They are my go to every morning!
I was craving something hearty this morning, especially since I knew I would be doing bank to back classes today. On my days off, I tend to really hit it hard, in case I miss a scheduled workout during the week.
So this morning was their recipe for a single serving coconut bread.

Seriously the easiest thing I’ve ever made. It’s 3 ingredients!

I doubled the recipe, cuz I knew I would want more than a single serving;) hehe.
So here it is:

2 tbsps coconut flour
2 eggs or 1 egg two egg whites
2 tsp gelatin

Super interesting! I never would’ve thought to use gelatin..genius!
This was a hit for me… Making this all the time now! Yipeeeeeeeee ;)

9:00 a.m. Was my first class of yoga in ages. I think the last time I was doing yoga, was when I was in Nicaragua. (Feb). I grabbed a few essentials, and headed out the door. I could hear Willy freaking out scratching the door. Ugh.

I thought this would be great after my two classes back to back to replenish my body. And what better way than with fruits and veggies! This particular one was kale, lemon, green apple, and cucumber.

I bought a 10 class series at Rising Lotus Yoga from groupon. A gift to myself for my birthday;) I was starting to feel I needed something just like this 1 time a week to break up my routine. I was super excited to see If I could still werrrrk it;) lol
I arrived a few minutes early, to sign in and get a good spot. I met the instructor, who was such a sweet man. This class was scheduled for an hour and 1/2. Wow.

Class was amazing!! Like soooooo great! I got right back into it as if it was yesterday! I felt flexible and full of energy. I wore my heart rate monitor, of course, and burned 200 calories. Although that may not seem like a lot, and yes, it actually isn’t that much…. I wasn’t really doing it for that. I was planning to burn at least 600 in my next class, so I wasn’t trippin. I wanted to incorporate this type of exercise in my regimen in order to encourage better breathing, stretching, flexibility, and strength.

After yoga, I quickly stopped at home to take Willy out for a walk. He needs to release some of that gnarly anxiousness and energy. Then, I headed straight to Zumba. Class was taught by Lucia today, who, bless her, was sick, and still brought it ON!
I burned almost 700 cals in that hour! Holy shizzzzzleeee! That’s what I like to see.
After class, my body was like ” k, byeeeeeee”.

I came home and immediately prepared myself an protein packed lunch. I find that eating my protein within 30 minutes of exersice increases muscle growth and repairs my muscle tissue.
So, lunch consisted of:
5 oz chicken breast topped with part skin mozzarella
Cucumber slices with 2 tbsp hummus
2 hard boiled egg whites

I could tell my body was craving protein, Cuz I ate that shit up like I was being chased by a train!

BIG GAME Y’ALL!!! Lol, I’m streaming it on my Mac while enjoying a homemade skinny margarita! So good. This is my absolute drink of choice! Well, other than red wine of course, but who drinks red wine while watching superbowl….not I. I’m not a huge fan of the teams playing, so really, I could give a s#*t who wins, but I love football, so I’m stoked:) oh and BTW…I am like a teenager waiting for Beyonce to perform halftime! Ahhhhhh, I think she is sooo fierce!

I can’t remember where I got this recipe exactly but it’s the best Margarita I’ve ever had! Now that I’ve had this clean version, I can’t ever have one of those ultra sweet, and sour, heavy on the mix ones. No thanks! They are absolutely full of sugar, and god knows what.

INGREDIENTS:

1 cup lime juice

1 cup water

20 drops liquid stevia

6 oz tequila

2 oz fresh-squeezed orange juice

Ice

Orange zest

Salt for glass rim (optional)

This is so on point! When I’m out at a Mexican restaurant, and there version of a skinny margarita is one with agave… I say ” No thanks, I’ll just have tequila on the rocks with lots and lots of lime and a spash of orange please” and I bust out my stevia from my purse like a creep. I swear, people stare as if I was drugging myself. Lol. With my lil stevia drops. Hahahaha

I ended up having an early dinner.I had to do some clients tonight, and didn’t want to be eating at 9.00 p.m.
Tonight’s dinner was no shocker. Lol. Chicken breast, lemon/chipotle baby broccoli ( my everything) and 2 hard boiled egg whites.
This is my absolute favorite way to eat broccoli. I wayyyy prefer baby broccoli to the fatter, shorter one. These have more of a crunch, which I love. I used to HATE brocolli!

SASSOON “Downtown” Collection workshop & BIKRAM

So excited to announce the launch of the new Sassoon collection “Downtown”. Just like in fashion we have collections that come out to the public every spring/summer, autumn
/winter, and a mid season. It’s a very exciting time for hairdressers all around the world who are avid followers of Vidal Sassoon, but especially for us who work for the company.

 

Generally, the concepts for the new collections come from our international team based out of London. Our international creative director, Mark Hayes does a great job of really listening to the teams from all of the Sassoon salons for inspiration.

 

 

 

 

For every collection that launches, every team has an evening where we all get together, usually a Wednesday after work, and display the new looks inspired from the collection on our own models. New techniques, new colors, and with the looks being pretty avaunt guard, we make sure to find models who are seriously open for big changes, that is the exciting part!

Hair, great hair, can really build an image for someone. These looks are usually pretty bold and daring and can really put someone’s confidence to the test. So we try to find people who will rock some amazing looks .

My model, Ruth, was adorable . She had recently moved here from London, and was very familiar with the Sassoon model/haircut set up. She was super cool and open to whatever I wanted to do. Blank canvas. Ahhhhhhhh, that is the best. Let me know what you guys think??

She said the only thing she wanted me to know, was that she was horrible at styling her own hair (she doesn’t own a hair dryer) and wanted something with no fuss. My kinda girl, it’s funny, I’m a hairdresser yet, I never style my own hair, meaning I always make sure my haircuts have no at-home maintenance. You see, I have wavy hair, so If it’s cut right, I can just let it air dry out of the shower, and it looks great.

Well, her texture was pretty similar to mine, so it was fun seeing how her hair was moving and adapting as we cut it.

Since I was really tired and busy this morning, I skipped my ritual Wednesday morning workout and figured I could stop at the gym on my way home. Ugh, I hate working out at night. I’m definitely a morning sweat sesh type person, so I was already annoyed about that, plus it was now 7:30 pm. It was a long day.

Wellllllllllllll……a couple of the girls at work are into Bikram yoga and mentioned that they were going to a class later on that night. I was thinking ” what the hell time is this class?.”
Turns out….. Yeah, 10 freakin PM!!! I’m usually asleep by then, like a total G-ma, but I was determined to get some kind of workout in, so It took everything in me to agree to go. You know how it is. When you get home from work, all you wanna do is get cozy, watch your favorite show, catch up on stuff, eat a nice meal and pour a glass of wine. I swear I almost passed out tired waiting to leave the house. It would’ve been a lot easier if we had done the 8p.m class, but nooooooo.

Ok I’m done complaining, I made it.

Bikram Yoga is a system of yoga that Bikram Choudhury synthesized from traditional hatha yoga[1] techniques and popularized beginning in the early 1970s.[2][3] Bikram Yoga sessions run for exactly 90 minutes and consist of a set series of 26 postures and 2 breathing exercises.[4] Bikram Yoga is ideally practiced in a room heated to 105°F (≈ 40.6°C) with a humidity of 40%,[5] and is the most popular form of hot yoga (a series of yoga poses done in a heated room).

Ok so, I have to admit, yoga has never been my thing or on the top of my training list. I maybe just haven’t found the right fit, as far as the style of yoga of the right teacher for me, but I keep trying. I do feel good after class but I do think this particular class is too long. 90 minutes. Also I think that I wasn’t in the right mind frame, especially with it being so late for me. I also felt like this style of practice focused a lot more on breathing techniques and flexibility poses. We were doing lots of back bending type stuff, that I don’t think I should’ve been doing seeing as it was only my second class ever. Sometimes are bodies are just not conditioned to be bent backwards, you know.(my neck was killing me after) What I’m trying to say is that, I think I’m just more of a ” I need to be jumping around like a crazy, or lifting like a beast type person” but I do know this, if you are like me,
It isimportant to vary the way you train. Add a day of a good stretching class, a low impact yoga or Pilates sesh wouldn’t hurt. We are all guilt of not always being aware of stretching after a workout, slowing down and focusing more on the breath, and taking more time to adjust your form and posture.

Like any workout, I think that yoga doesbring something really good to your life, especially for the everyday. How many times have you accidentally caught yourself in the mirror with the worst posture? Huh? Or realized you were sticking your stomach out as if you had a food baby? Yoga is something that helps to encourage better alignment and a stronger sense of being centered.

With all that preaching, I’ve decided I am more of a Core Power yoga type rather than the Bikram type.
