FRESH START to the week & FLAX-BANANA SQUARES RECIPE!

Happy Monday my lovelies! Great start to the week so far! Lots to do today! A lil’ cooking, a bit of baking,errands…and a gnarly 2 hr workout tonight.

This morning I tried out a new “milk” for my coffee, and I’m pretty much all smiles about it cuz it LA BOMBA! It’s only 45 cals for one cup! I only need 1/2 cup to froth, so I’m completely stoked on it. It’s almond freakin coconut. Doesn’t that sound outrageous? Happiness in a cup. Every Damn morning:)

You know me… I wake up starrrrving! And I almost always forget to take my pills first on an empty stomach, because my first reaction is to have a spoonful of almond butter or something right away. So annoying. I hate pills on an empty stomach, but I’m a rule follower. It is what it is. The cleanse is over Tuesday. Honestly, it’s been easy. I eat pretty much like this anyway, except for the occasional binge….or maybe the cheese thing… Yeah, I need to cut that down a bit. Hi my name is Paula, and I’m obsessed over the creamiest, stinkiest, ripest cheeses out there. That may or may not be my actual calling in life. Lol

Anyway, As I was researching healthy recipes ( daydreaming about cheese;), I stumbled across this lil JEM! Oh my HEALTHY and oh my GOD! This is a recipe adapted from bodybuilding.com and it’s full of protein and fiber, with practically no carbs!

Hungry girl got to baking by 6:15 am. I get the most inspired to be in the kitchen first thing in the morning, it’s really the darnedest thing. It’s my “me” time:)

All that fiber I was taking about, come from this. My favorite flax meal. Carrington Farms Flax Meal.
A great source of omegas too!

I always, always make sure that I have this in my pantry for baking. It adds beautiful flavor.

The hour! Heavenly breakfast this morning. And… NO, I didn’t eat all of these. Display only babes.

INGREDIENTS:

• 2 cups flax seed meal

• 5 egg whites

• 2 whole eggs

• 5 T olive oil (can use coconut or other oil) you may also cut the oil in 1/2 and replace with nonfat Greek yogurt for less fat. (Haven’t tried that yet, but I’m sure it would work)

• 1 T baking powder

• 1/2 teaspoon salt

• 1/2 cup water

• 2 packets Stevia

• 1- 1&1/2 servings of about time protein. Banana works well for a low carb banana muffin/bread flavor.

DIRECTIONS:

Mix all dry ingredients in one bowl and all wet in a separate bowl. Combine mixtures well and add together. Be sure to get out the lumps from batter.
This recipe, originally was used to make muffins, but, since I used a square pan, the timing will be different.
Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
Grease an 8×8 pan. ( could also use a loaf pan, but may need a few extra minutes to cook)
Pour in batter and bake for 11- 16 minutes. Bakes pretty fast. So watch it. We don’t want that ish dry!

After my breakfast of champs, I was off to run my errands. First things first…get all the crap out of my car! It’s amazing how much you accumulate in the trunk! Geez. My first stop, was the body shop to drop off my sad lil crashed VW.

Anddddd. Here I am. At Enterprise. Just, what I wanted to be doing on my day off. Luckily my insurance covers a rental, otherwise…oh hello nahhhh!
Somebody got a Chrysler Sebring… OH SNAP! Hollaaaaa. Hahaha. I feel like I should be driving in the carpool lane on my way to a PTA meeting in that thing! My god. Lol

I took willy with my to enterprise, and they tried pulling the whole ” I’m sorry ma’am, but, we don’t allow dogs in the rentals. Mostly due to shedding…..
I said” “b*#%h, he’s hypo-allergenic! He don’t shed!” Ok, we’ll… I didn’t so much say that, but made it very clear, that my dog would be getting in the vehicle. Thanks byyyyeeeeee

We then took a little trip to his. Favorite place. PETCO. I got him some busy chews, cuz you know… He’s got the crazy in him.

I had a late lunch. I didn’t have anything quick to eat, so I decided to play around with some chicken I’d been wanting to make to get ready for my packed lunches during the week. Chicken breast can get a bit BORING if you ask me. I’m all about the thighs! But, as we know, the darker the meat, the higher in fat, so I tend to stick to the breast. It can also very easily dry out when cooking, so I think now, I finally got it down:)

The 3 MARINADES are:

1. GINGER/GARLIC/LEMON /RED CHILI

2. GRAINY DIJON MUSTARD

3. PESTO

I marinaded them separately. Literally just smothered them. Let them sit for 20 mins to ensure more flavor within.

DIRECTIONS:

Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
Add 1 tbsp of coconut oil (or any other HIGH HEAT oil. Allow to melt in the pan on med- high heat. (The key is to first brown/sear the chicken underneath just enough to get that intense flavor and texture.)
Add your 3 chicken breasts to the pan. Doesn’t matter, right next to each other is fine.
Cook in pan for 5-6 mins. Check for searing/browning underneath.
Then remove from stovetop, cover with a lid, and stick in the oven for 15 mins.
Now, this will vary depending on the thickness of the chicken breast, so be mindful of that.

I enjoyed a few pieces of each, along with some steamers baby broccoli and a side of arugula tossed in Sea Clear.

So worth the wait. Super easy, yummy, NOT dry, and now I have loads left for the next 2-3 days.

After lunch, I thought I deserved a treat ;), so I had another flax-banana square. I just can’t help it. They are so good and hearty. No pic though;)
I had one more errand to run then I had to get back home to clean my mess of a house up.
That’s right…my passport is expiring in march, and I’m planing to take a trip at the end of may, so I HAD to send for a new one. Oh, and finally, a new picture! My old one was like, no joke, HIDZ!. It was a bit of a process, but, glad it’s done. Phweeeeee!
As I checked out my ID, I also noticed that, that also expires soon. Like, freakin THIS WEEK!
Ugh, FML.i totally didn’t realize that it expired that soon, and, on my bday! Do you understand what it’s like at the DMV?

I managed to get a whole lots of organizing and cleaning when I got home, put away the laundry. Playing catch up, really.

Mondays night is my Power Workout night. 2 back to back classes with Sandy Campy Fitness.
At 7:00 & 8 p.m.
So, an hour before, I made my BCAA water, stuck it in the fridge, and had a small dinner. I don’t like to eat anything heavy right before a workout, but I also don’t like to eat at 9p.m, so since I had a late lunch, dinner consisted of 3 hard boiled egg whites, a few cut up pieces of the chicken from lunch and a 6 almonds.

ZUMBA KILLED IT Tonight! Fresh faces, new choreography, and lots of energy in that room! That’s what drives y’all!

Tonight was the first time using my Polar Watch to monitor how many calories I would burn during both classes.
Generally, with Zumba alone, it tends to be 600 calories burned, so I was excited to see what an extra hour of strength training would do!

This class is killer! And , with the combination of both Zumba, and bodysculpting, the results are almost instant. This is what takes your body to the next level. The cardio+ targeting and isolating of each muscle group on its own is what makes those changes that we are all looking for.
I get sore in muscles I didn’t even know I had or existed! That says A LOT for me, and I imagine, even more so, for those people who are new to getting fit.
In the end of my 2 class circuit, I burned a total of 900 calories. Such a happy girl! 😉

Ohh SNAP Saturday! Coconut Flour Pancakes

Hi friends! Hope your Saturday is going great! While all of you have today off, I’ve got a full book of clients today at the salon! All good, but I’m ready for the weekend. Last night was a blast at the Laker game. I’m sure all of you noticed my late post.

So far the cleanse is going really great. My stomach feels flatter, I feel full of energy, and my intestines are happy:) today will be the 4th day, so this morning… I started off with ,y 2 liver organ cleanse pills on a empty stomach…along with my acacia fiber powder mixed with water.( I sound like a broken record, sorry. But repetition= habitual=results.

BREAKFAST:

2 mini chia protein muffins(same as yesterday)

1 Scandinavian bran crisp with RAW pumpkin seed butter and sugar free honey. These crisps are fantastic because they are loaded with fiber and have no sugar! A great, clean option for while in a cleanse.

One thing I can’t NOT have, is coffee. I mean, I’m not having sugary, creamy coffee. It’s just espresso, a stevia packet, and 1/2 cup frothed unsweetened almond milk. That’s not bad right??
Anyway… I had two cups today:) don’t judge.

SNACK 1:

A handful of raspberries

A handful of RAW almonds.

A few blueberries.

A mix of antioxidants,fats, and proteins.

LUNCH:

Ok, I promise, this is the last salmon lunch picture I will bore you guys with! Lol. Remember, I don’t like to waste food, so I’ve been having it everyday till its gone. I LOVE SALMON. High in protein, and a great source of essential fatty acids which actually help to aid in weight loss. Healthy fats are good babes! Plus, sometimes chicken just doesn’t cut it for me. In fact, I’ve been getting a bit annoyed of it lately. I guess I’ve played it out…hmmmm, like I do with many things in life.

SUPERDRINK ALERT!

Green tea with lemon.
green tea’s health benefits are astonishing! Research shows that it has potential to fight cancer and heart disease . Also, some studies have shown that green tea may play a role in lowering cholesterol, burning fat, preventing diabetes and stroke, and staving off dementia.

I try to drink at least one small cup a day:)

SNACK 2:

Before finishing up my last client of the day, I was feeling a bit tired and slow, so I had a small strawberry protein shake. 1/2 a packet of About Time strawberry whey, water, and ice.

Tonight’s plan was to do absolutely NOTHING!
I very rarely just sit, relax and have no plans. I’m starting to realize how nice it is! If I’m not cooking, I’m walking willy. If I’m not working out, I’m at work. If I’m not posting, I’m sleeping! I mean, sometimes I really feel like there are not enough hours in the day to just sit and maybe enjoy a nice movie. That time should also be valued and not taken for granted.

Got home, took willy out, and decided that I wanted breakfast for dinner:)

Now, I’ve made plenty of different types of low carb pancakes, but I think this one is the easiest and super duper tasty!

When I found this recipe, I tripped out….because, guess what?

I originally found this on bodybuilding.com, and I doubled the recipe, but once I made them, I realized I really didn’t need to for a single serving. You will find that they are quite dense.
2 pancakes were really enough.

INGREDIENTS:

(For 2 people)

8 egg whites. I use the cage free egg white cartons cuz I hate wasting the yolk.

4 tbsp coconut flour

2 tsp vanilla bean extract or paste

2 pinches of cinnamon

Optional: stevia to sweeten if you are not gonna top them with anything sweet in the end.

You can really play around with what you want to use as toppers. I’m always a big fan of PB2 mixed with a little water, a sprinkle of unsweetened shredded coconut, and sugar free honey, you could also add fresh berries. Whatever!

Grease your pancake pan ( I use either coconut spray or smart balance spray)

In a bowl, mix all ingredients.

Use a spoon to dollop onto pan. The mixture may be a bit thick, so you might have to form them a little. Ugh, these were the BOMB, and healthy and appropriate for my cleanse. So satisfied right now.

I’m about to finish my post, and enjoy some Ryan Gosling in the movie “Drive” . I’ve been wanting to see this forever! S I’m gonna sit my ass down on this couch and enjoy my no gym day today;)

ASAIN SESAME NOODLE SALAD RECIPE! Don’t miss it:)

Who loves NOODLES!! I DO!
But… As we all know, I don’t really eat traditional pasta or starch noodles anymore, soooooo this is the BEST alternative. You guys, seriously…you’ve got to get into the craze of the fiber noodles. Whether it be “miracle noodles” or “pasta slim“, they take on whatever flavor you add to them, and the best part being that they are ONLY 25 calories per serving. I’m sorry, but you can’t beat that. If you know my blog, you know that these puppies are always on my grocery list. They fill me up, and I never feel guilty eating a couple servings of this.

This particular recipe is for a COLD ASAIN SESAME NOODLE SALAD.
you can whip this up in no time. Under 10 minutes.

When you open the package, they usually have a strange smell to them, but not to worry. What you will do, is stick them in a colander and run them under water for a few minutes.

The next step. Boil them for 3-5 mins, to soften texture and to get rid of the fiber smell.

Once boiled, let the noodles sit out to cool.
During that time. Get out your ingredients.
Thinly slice the cabbage ( I prefer the Chinese cabbage for this recipe)

Add the chopped green onions and finely minced garlic…

Add the sesame seeds…
( raw or toasted)
I prefer the toasted, more of a nutty flavor.

Throw the noodles to the bowl.
Add your Asian sauce consisting of:

sesame oil,

rice wine vinegar,

siracha,

fish sauce,

liquid aminos

Get your hands in there and toss!

Hey all!
It’s day 2 of the Body Flush, and I’m feeling like a champ! The difference has been outrages. My digestive system is very happy with me:) it’s a rainy day today in LA., so we’ll see if I am able to go running tonight. I am definitely not missing ZUMBA though. I’m off from work a bit early today! Yipppeeeeeeee

Today’s morning start:

2 cleanse pills on an empty stomach.
1 shot espresso with frothed almond milk.
1 scoop fiber blend with 8 oz water
8 oz green protein smoothie:

Kale
Chard
Spinach
Bee pollen
Water
Flax milk
1 scoop protein
1/2 tsp vanilla bean
1 tbsp hemp seeds

Life changed when I found hemp seeds!

Here are some helpful facts that you may not have known about hemp seeds.

A I read my daily dose of morning bloglovin, I came across this little hot cake from purelytwins. I immediately grabbed a ramekin and whipped one up in 3 minutes.
When you cleanse, you crave stuff like this. This was PERFECT this morning. I can totally have these in the a.m. during my cleanse.

INGREDIENTS:

1 Tbsp chia seeds

1 tbsp coconut flour

2 tbsp carob powder or unsweetened cacao powder

1/4 tsp baking powder

2 1/2 tbsp water

15 drops stevia

1/2 tsp vanilla bean paste/extract

Mix all dry ingredients in ramekin, add water, stevia, and vanilla bean. Mix very well, It’ll be quite thick. You could also dab a bit of coconut oil on top. Microwave for 60 seconds, and you’ve got your very own HEALTHY morning dose of cake without additives, sugar, or high carbs.

Before leaving for work , I roasted some brussel sprouts with a bit of coconut oil, cayenne pepper, and sea salt. I may or may not have completely over cooked these bad boys, but whatever. I little crunch won’t hurt nobooooooody!

Snack 1:

A handful of cherries:)
Agua Fresca:

Water
Juice of 1 lemon
Juice of 1 small orange
Shaved ginger

Today’s LUNCH:

Roasted Brussel sprouts

Baby kale with chia seed oil and liquid aminos.

Kabocha sqaush

Radish kimchi

1/2 avocado

Adding the squash in there helped to plump up the lunch, otherwise this wouldn’t of filled me up at all. I would’ve been hungry in 2 seconds. Pretty much the ultimate snacky plate:) the flavore all went really well together. I made enough brussel sprouts to take some to work mañana as well. I am leftover queen.

Snack 2:

RAW trail mix.

Pepitas

Flax seeds

Cacao nibs

Sunflower seeds.

Best snack ever! I usually munch on a string cheese or an apple, remember….NO dairy, NO sugar for 7 days, so this really was a treat. I love cacao nibs. Super high in antioxidants and dietary fiber. They kinda remind me of espresso beans. Simiiiiiilllarrrrrrrr.

I’ve got ZUMBA at 8 tonight, so I made a quick, easy, and delicious dinner an hour and 1/2 before.
I was craving some protein!

Salmon is on the plate tonight ladies.

Super easy!
First…. Pre heat oven to 350 degrees.

Make boats out of aluminum

Place a handful of spinach leaves at the bottom

Place the salmon on top.

Rub with crushed garlic

Sprinkle with salt and pepper

Juice of 1/2 a lemon

3 thin lemon slices on top

Close the boats, leaving room for salmon to steam inside, but make sure the seams are shut.
Cook for 20 minutes and 350*

I love , absolutely love cilantro, so this part is optional. Chopped cilantro makes everything better to me. Oh, and a bit of siracha is always lovely too;)
I ended up only eating 1/2 of this, which was a actually one serving. About 5 oz. ( the size of your palm). Along with a a handful of homemade curry, turmeric pumpkin seeds. That last thing I wanted was to feel full during class. Not a good idea. Ever. My stomach is in high digestion mode. Everything is going right through me. Really, It’s a blessing and a curse, if ya know what I mean.

Tonight’s class was booked. A solid hour of “shakin what yo mama gave ya!”
Sooo fun tonight, we learned a new dance! Woo-hooooo. My happiness continued when I realized I had burned 580 calories. I love seeing new faces in the crowd. Makin it happen ladies.

We ran for Charity Miles ( Stand up to Cancer). Just under 3 miles. I started getting a cramp so when it was over, I wanted to pass the efffff out.

Meal replacement:Great way to keep your metabolism in high gear, support muscle repair, and encourages a healthy immune system.

As a snack: Add into drinks or Bake into foods as a great on the go snack!

These are my experiments with About Time. So fun and delicious.

Now, for the first two examples, I used a Vitamix, but it’s not necessary. You can use whatever you’ve got.

For me, There’s nothing better than adding some green into my protein regimen. It aids in digestion, and adds a serving a veggies without feeling or tasting like it.

About Time Vanilla Green Smoothie

  • 1 cup Flax milk ( you could also use light coconut or almond milk) Unsweetened Vanilla
  • 3 swiss chard leaves
  • 1 pouch/1 scoop VANILLA About Time Protein
  • 1/2 a lrg banana
  • 1 tsp vanilla bean extract or paste
  • 2 tbsp nonfat greek yogurt. Fage or chobani are offer great 0% yogurt
  • A pinch of bee-pollen (optional)

About Time Choco-Nut Shake

  • 1 pouch/1 scoop Chocolate Peanut Butter About Time
  • 1 cup unsweetened vanilla almond milk
  • 1 tbsp PB2 ( or you could use 1 tbsp all nutural peanut butter)
  • 1 tsp cacao powder
  • 2 tbsp low fat cottage cheese
  • 1 tsp vanilla bean paste/extract
  • taste and add stevia if preferred sweeter.

I consider this my “after night workout treat” it tastes like a naughty dessert, but really, it’s a super healthy and yummy way to get your protein in before your body goes into full rest mode.

Now come the YUMMIES!

Choco-Nut POWER Protein Cookies

  • – 1/2 cup peanut butter Or if trying for less cals, try 1/4 cup mixed chocolate PB2 and 1/4 cup all natural peanut butter
  • 1 pouch/1 scoop Chocolate/Peanut butter About Time Protein
  • 3 egg whites
  • 1 tsp baking powder

Make into rounds, and place on a greased cookie sheet.

Bake at 350 degrees for 7-10 min.

These puppies cook fast, so keep an eye out. Also just have a feel at 7 minutes, they may be done, shouldn’t be too firm.

These are FANTASTIC! The flavors pop. I love having a couple with my morning coffee, before a workout, or as a dessert:)

They are super light , airy, and really, they take no time to prep and bake.

This was my FAVORITE recipe that I put together for the Banana About Time. I couldn’t stop eating these muffins! I became a banana-aholic! Check em’ out. You need to have these little protein muffins in your life, like ASAP!

 

Banana-Rama Protein Muffins

  • 1 pouch/ 1 scoop Banana About Time Protein
  • 3/4 Cup Organic Coconut Flour
  • 1/2 Cup Erithrytol ( or if using stevia.. use just under 1/4 cup. its way sweeter. and if using liquid stevia…even less)I prefer erithrytol or xylitol for baking
  • 1 tsp Baking powder
  • 1 tsp Baking soda
  • 1/2 tsp Cinnamon
  • 1/2 tsp Nutmeg
  • 1 Cup Mashed Very Ripe Banana
  • 1 tbsp unsweetened vanilla almond milk
  • 1/2 Cup Liquid Egg Whites
  • 1 container 0% Greek Yogurt (fage or chobani)
  • 1 tsp Vanilla Extract/paste
  • crushed walnuts (for topping)
  • cacao nibs(for topping)

Mix all dry ingredients in a bowl. (make sure to really mix this well, the coconut flour tends to lump up)

Mix wet ingredients in separate bowl.

Combine mixtures , consistency should be of a doughy batter.

I used these cute little paper tins, but you could just put them right in the muffin tray, it would probably cook faster.

DIRECTIONS:

Pre-heat oven 350 degrees.

Grease 6 muffin tins. ( like to use either smart balance spray or organic coconut spray)

Evenly distribute batter into tins, Top with crushed walnuts and cacao nibs, and place in oven.

Bake for 16-20 mins.

They were RIDICULOUS! Sooooo good!

I took them out when they were still quiet soft and let them sit out and cool. I dipped into one, and fell in love. It was pretty much a healthy single serving of banana bread! Also, lovely with that bit of crunch from the nuts and nibs which are optional, if you’re not into that.

Hello lovely readers! How is everyone? I’m wondering if everyone’s resolutions and goals are on track…. I’m feeling pretty good so far about mine! These last ten days, I’ve been on POINT! although, I’ve been having the gnarliest Mexican food craving, and last night I almost flaked on ZUMBA and running to go gorge on chips, salsa, and oo. margaritas, ugh it sounds soooo good, even now. Seriously, the struggle is real. The point is, that I managed to turn my thoughts of ” Oh hello yesss, I’m about to do werrrrk on some serious mexi” to ” EFFFF yesss, I’m about to dance my ASS off, and fell amazing!”

Thursday started off really nice, and slowwwww that is. It’s been soooo cold, that I just can’t seem to want to get up. Even to pee for god’s sake. Sooo cold! So not into that. Once I finally got up, I went straight into the kitchen, still half asleep, and made my cup of coffee. Managed to get some work done on the computer, which I desperately needed to get done, since I knew it was a super busy day at the salon, and I wouldn’t be able to step away to even read emails.

My favorite time of day, is morning. This is when I get most of my inspiration for recipes, willy is the cuddliest, and I get to enjoy my candles in my robe and slippers. I LOVE IT.
As you are aware of my eating schedule, you already know that I wake up absolutely STARVED as soon as I wake up, so, I took my iPad into the kitchen, and looked for something yummy and healthy to make for breakfast;)

As I did my ritual of flipping through my favorite blogs, sippin on coffee, when I came across a super ft breakfast idea from fellow fit blogger, blogilates. She had a recipe of an über healthy, yummy looking muffin, that was literally cooked right in the microwave.
The INGREDIENTS are 5 things!
Mine unfortunately doesn’t look as pretty, but hey, you can’t win em’ all, huh?

I gotta admit, I actually quite enjoyed it, and knowing how clean it was, I enjoyed it even more! 😉

INGREDIENTS:

– Less than 1/4 cup quick oats

– 1 egg

– 1 tbsp almond milk

– a handful of blueberries

– 1 packet of stevia

These were her instructions, which I pretty much followed to a T.

Place in the microwave for 1 min. Watch it carefully! This could overflow!
If the muffin top does not look firm, place back in 30 sec at a time.
Once ready, flip mug upside down onto a plate and slice some fresh strawberries to decorate.

Before leaving, I took Willy for a quick walk, packed a healthy lunch for work, and made a delicious chocolate protein shake with my new favorite protein, ABOUT TIME PROTEIN. The folks at About Time were super sweet and sent some samples for me to try out, so that I could share with ya’ll my thoughts and reviews. I am a huge lover of protein shakes, and with the way I like to work out, I definitely need my protein. For on the go, a shake is the best way to consume it. I will be doing a FULL post dedicated to different ways to utilize this great product. I snuck in a DOVE dark chocolate. I like one piece everyday. My allowance I guess;) I had to take a pic of the inside of the wrapper… Made me laugh…they’re really wanting you to feel good about eating chocolate. Even once you’ve already had like, 10, just keep readin! Those lovely little sayings, and you won’t feel like a cow, right?

But healthy girls pack lunches, and even though repetitive, it keeps me from eating shit.

But hold up… I gotta share this delicious vegetarian dinner I created before I left for Zumba! I took like a million pics cuz I was so excited, and it was beautiful.

INGREDIENTS:

 

– 1/4 onion chopped

-1/2 a shallot thinly sliced

– 1 tsp chopped/ minced garlic

-1 bock choy

– 1/4 cup chopped red pepper

– 1/4 cup chopped green pepper

– 1/2 cup sliced mushrooms (you can buy a bag of em’ already prepped at TJ’s)

– 2 cups chopped kale

– 1 Japanese sweet potato (amazing!, and purple inside) But really, you could use any sweet potato.

– salt & pepper

-1/2 tsp crushed red pepper

– 1 tbsp red wine vinegar

– 1 tbsp coconut oil

– 1 tbsp brown rice miso

– 1 egg (poached)

– chopped basil for garnish

Ok so, typically you wouldn’t catch me dead eating egg yolks but for some reason… my body was screaming for it. I know, weird. When everyone says, “it’s always better with an egg on top” holy shit, were they right!

This was great for an easy dinner before heading out. I had all the ingredients in my fridge, so I chopped them all up, threw them in a wok and done!

Throw the sweet potato in the microwave first, for a couple minutes, so that it doesn’t take you forever to cook it through in the pan. in there for a couple min at least, or just keep feeling for softness.

throw veggies in the wok, with salt, pepper and spices. Add in vinegar and miso, keep stirring.

I would keep the heat on medium, if it’s too high, you may burn the veggies before they even cook.

when almost done, in a separate saucepan with boiling water, poach an egg. I just put the raw egg in a big sauce spoon, and dipped it slowly into the boiling water, until it sort of stayed together. a few minutes is all it really needed.

Garnish with a bit of chopped basil and salt and pepper.

Amazeballz!

(this was my first time trying the Japanese sweet potato, and I am hooked! Sweeter than any typical sweet potato I’ve ever had)

Class was FAN-Tas_tIc! Super fun. I love all the ladies in there, really inspiring, and you can tell, everyone just really enjoys being there. I like that energy. I wore my polar hear trate monitor, and tracked our 550 cal burn. Awesome!
After class, Jess (the one in the pink) went for a 3 mile run. Yes, in the freezing cold. Holy shit was I COLD! We wore soooooo many layers, beanies, gloves, you name it, still couldn’t manage to get warmed up.

Ahhhh, good ol’ Wednesday just flew by, didn’t it!? I’m writing this wed night, but you probably won’t see it posted till tomorrow. I gotta check my settings, cuz I think it’s only notifying every 20 hrs or so, not sure. So, sorry on the “late” status:/

Anyway…. Yesterday was a really intense workout day, I gotta say. I know I’ve got some energy to burn, but shit. I did an hour on the elliptical in the a.m., then, ZUMBA at 8:00 p.m THEN, a 3 mile run! I know, I’m weird. I felt great, until I got a cramp in the arch of my foot! Ughhh. Before the run, I had to really stretch it out.

I got home, and realized I had not opened my package that I had received the day before. LOOKIE HERE! My Nespresso pods for my perfect Pixie Espresso machine! I can’t survive without it. A bit dramatic, but only to those who don’t drink coffee, and we all know, they can’t be trusted😉 I couldn’t wait to fall asleep so that I could wake up and have my cup of joe!

Well, my adrenaline  kept me up later than I was hoping (cons to late night workouts),so I definitely was not working out this morning. I got some work done, and relaxed with willy instead. I recently got approached by About Time protein to do a review on their product, so this morning, I played around with different ways to utilize the protein. I received a few different favors, and I really think that it’s gonna be the new BIG thing! My review and recipe ideas will be up next week, so be sure to keep an eye out, especially for those looking for a protein powder that is on the leaner side!

Lunch was a random. Spaghetti squash I had baked in the oven last night, and some cold Asian style “miracle noodles” with cabbage, sesame, and other yumminess. (you can find these under tools/devices for the kitchen, just scroll over to specialty foods)

For dessert, I hade a huge Asian pear, that was as sweet as a mother trucker. I’ve been having lots of fruit cravings lately….

This evening was supposed to be a Zumba class, or body sculpt class, but I got home from work, and realized…yeah, I ain’t goin noooowhere.

Tonight’s dinner was a fiasco of me trying out a new recipe of spaghetti squash latkes, which tuned into a this. I don’t know what kept happening, they wouldn’t crisp up, so it ended up more like a scramble. lol. Whatever, topped it with a little parsley and viola! Still super yummy. I enjoyed with a glass of Pinot, and a protein cookie for dessert;) I always have to have something a bit sweet in the mix, you know me.

MORNING HIIT CARDIO & a new FF>2F AMAZING recipe!

Helllllooooo gorgeous friends….
Let me start off this post by introducing my ridiculous, gluttonous ass dessert from last night. Yikes!
Friends don’t let friends eat SUGAR! FML.

Well, it was delicious, but I knew I would be paying for it in the morning…..
The pretty playing also doesn’t help.

Up at 6:00 though…kicking and screaming. 😉
I decided to try a fasted cardio session this morning. I’m typically the type who likes to nibble on something small before a workout. For some reason, sometimes I get nauseous with nothing in my stomach. But today, I was in desperate need to burn off the late night cals.
So I put a few scoops of BCAA in my water bottle and took off to LA Fitness.
I woke up super tired, and a bit unmotivated, but I persevered! 😉
Once I was there, I turned to beast mode. Duh.

Once I learned of fasted morning cardio, I was hooked. I do this for a week, after a couple days of naughty eating. This is to really lean you out. I don’t do it on the regular, but it’s definitely something in my program …as a go to.
Now, this is something that has to be balanced out with proper nourishment after your workout.
Also, the type of cardio makes a difference as well.
The best combo would be:

– 45 min – 1 hr of HIIT.
– This a.m. I did 1 hour of intervals.
3 min resistance 5..
2 min resistance 10
– This will have your heart rate guessing, helping us to burn more, for longer.
– Drinking BCAA during workout
– post workout, make sure to feel body and muscles with very lean protein.
Egg whites, protein shake, lean meat, lite dairy.

So, I gotta share this… I’m PISSED. this damn machine’s calorie count was sooooo off.it said that I had burned almost 800 hundred cals in my hr workout. There’s no way. I mean I worked out hard, but really??
Yeah, definitely something wrong. I had entered my weight, age, all of it.
Soooo off.

Of course, I had on my polar watch and was also wearing my heart transmitter, so I was able to get an accurate calorie count. Thank god. But, you know what? I’m pissed for the people to don’t have access to a watch like this. I mean, poor girl thinkin’ she’s burning all SORTS of cals, little does she know, she’s gotta work a lot harder than she expected to get that number!

Anyway, that was a rude awakening, I’ve had it be off by 50, 60, but by like 200. Get real.
After the gym, I knew willy would be waiting by the door like a little creep, so I rushed home to take him to the park.
He just got a haircut, adorbs. I finally got the groomer lady to stop makin’ him look like a girl!
“I get it, he’s part poodle, but can you puuuuleaseee stop making my dog look like a bitch” is really, what I wanted to say, but clearly too nice to;)
Finally got him to look like the terrier lil boy he is;)
It was a beautiful morning! Not too many folks with their dogs out, so I let him run free for a while.
He ran himself out, which I LOVE, cuz it relaxes the anxiety for when I leave for work.

Stoked on my new HOME GYM….

Hey guys!

Today started off really crazy! I’m ending my night on the couch as I write this, completely exhausted. Last night, I went to my girlfriends house for dinner, and ended up passing out on her couch while we were watching “Trouble with the Curve”. Good, cute movie, but my eyes apparently could not stay open. I woke up at 2:00 am completely confused. LOL. I had to work in the morning, so I had to get home, plus, there’s nothing like your own bed, you know? So, i grabbed willy and we drove home to get in a few more hours of sleep.

In true Paula fashion…If you know me, than you wouldn’t be surprised, I was up and full of energy at 5:30 a.m.

Now, writing that, makes me feel like a crazy lady. God forbid I sleep in. Geez. It was like someone lit a rocket on my ass. You wouldn’t guess what the hell I was doing that early……… I literally built a gym in my upstairs bedroom.My neighbors probably want to kill me. I was being a loud mess. Oops. Sorry boos:)

Ok, so…Where you see the dressers, is where my bed was (which was a BITCH to move) yup, took the whole thing apart. Lots of noise happening there.

The dressers were on the other side of the room, and SUPER heavy, so, I had to take out all the drawers, move the dressers to the other side, and put all the drawers back in. I was like a machine this morning! Please don’t even look at those hideous blinds…embarrassing. They are coming off soon. Ughh

I pretty much already had most of this equiptment, except for those super dope black gym floor. You wouldn’t believe me when I tell you I got it at ROSS for $16.99. Hello! It was eggggzactly what I was looking for. And you know those places… It’s hit or miss. So I was stoked! I couldn’t wait to get home and actually use it tonight!  My energy craze lasted 2 1/2 hours, and I had had enough! I was ready for breakfast.

The Vitamix has been great!! I’ve been making Green drinks every morning. It just really feels good to start my doy with something so clean.

TODAYS GREEN DRINK:

4 dino kale leaves

2 tbsp low fat cottage cheese

1 scoop vanilla protein powder by Collagen Sport

1 cup unsweetened flax milk. (avail. at whole foods)

1 tsp vanilla bean paste

1 packet of stevia

1 tsp PB2

5 ice cubes

A pinch of bee pollen

I’ve also been into making fresh OJ. (I mean, not allll the time, too much sugar) & in my house, nothing goes to waste, you see, so I saved the rinds for maybe making some infused vodka or something. They’re sittin in the fridge, I gotta figure it out soon. This smoothie was  my breakfast, actually, quite filling. of course, after the fiasco this morning upstairs, I was also dying for a coffee! So I had an espresso (double shot) with almond milk:)

I thought that I was gonna be totally late to work today, but I was certainly pleasantly surprised to see, pretty much, no cars on the road. I guess people are still outta town or something. The worst part is…I get there almost even early, I check the books, and I have 1 client. ONE freakin client!!!! Can you believe?! So pissed. I figured the salon would be slower today, but c’mon. The good part was, that i got to go get cozy at starbucks, enjoy a skinny peppermint mocha, and blog for a while.

Had lunch around 2. Kinda late for me, but whateves. I was gettin my starbeeez on!

Lunch today was really clean and ummmm sooo good! It looks like roadkill, yes, I know, but everything about it was sooo RIGHT!

Today dragged, and dragged, and dragged…… I just wanted to get home and try the baby gym out! I got home a little bit early, with no traffic, it was terrific. I quickly put on my warm running clothes and took off wit willy for a one mile warm-up

Then jumped sound, a with a mix of weightl lifting, a bit of dancing and some planks. I wore my heart transmitter and Polar warch to keep track of what I achieved during the workout. An extra 300 calories off my 3250 calorie burn weekly target. yeayyyyy. So far this week, 950 cals burned. Starting the NEW YEAR off right!:)

Dinner was a delicious Protein Plate Egg salad

  • Mostly egg whites
  • Sauteed with chopped swiss chard
  • Salt and Pepper
  • Topped with a sprinkle of goat cheese
  • and raw pumpkin seeds.
  • A bit of siracha

It was the perfect dinner. Not too big, not too much.

The perfect balance of fats, proteins, and greens!

These types of meals, are what we should enjoy every night for dinner for 2013. CLEAN MEALS. I’m not saying that It absolutely HAS to be exactly this, but something like this. Well balanced, clean, and especially if your 2013 resolution is to get fit, then you need all this protein!

After dinner, of course I wanted something sweet, so I munched on a World’s Healthiest Cookie that I had I the fridge, and a handful of walnuts & mulberries. I had a little couch potato moment, and enjoyed my new Bon Apetite that arrived in the mail. I still totally LOVE receiving magazines in the mail. I get excited to check everyday, like a kid on christmas day. Such a dork.

Worlds FASTEST and HEALTHIEST CoOkIE!

THAt’S right! Cookies have never been this easy! Now that the New Year is here…it’s time to start gettin your HEALTH on! I’ve got the solution for ya’ll. You know that I’m constantly researching healthy ways to get my sweet fix in, and with this recipe, I’ve found the ULTIMATE!

Have you ever used coconut flour?

please refer to this great site to help you grow accustomed to low carb baking.

Foodie Fiasco is another great site/blog that I follow for low carb baking. I absolutely love her! All of her sweets are completely healthified.

This morning I was craving something sweet to go with my coffee, and I didn’t have much time to make anything that was too fussy, so this was perfect. I had all the ingredients anyway.

Oh, btw, have you ever made cookies in your microwave… Yeah me neither. Talk about curious. The original recipe with made with molasses, I instead opted for sugar free honey. Just preference. I also doubled the recipe so that I could have enough for a few days;)

You will now see how freakin easy this is. They are pretty dense. Really, because coconut flour sucks in lots of moisture, plus the banana. So the cookies should be made small. Trust me, they’re filling.

Alright, check it….
In a small/medium bowl…add coconut flour, salt, and stevia. Combine these ingredients well, coconut flour tends to lump up so make sure smash those little chunks right out. Once combined, add unsweetened vanilla almond milk. You could also use light unsweetened coconut milk. I like to use a fork to combine, the whisk usually sucks for me. I find that things blend better with my fork. Especially for this type if baking.

In a different bowl, (small), mash banana well, add honey, and vanilla. Mix
Add into your other flour/milk bowl. Combine all to create the batter. Then, fold in chocolate chips. In this case, I used vegan carob chips. Really, you could use any, but I would stick to the darkest, purest dark chocolate. The darker the chocolate, the more fiber, and antioxidants, the less sugar. I actually LOVE me some 100% dark cacao, I could even much on a handful of raw cacao nibs! Yummy.

Once the cookie dough I created, make little dough ball, and flatten them out to a cookie shape.

Ok, now comes the part that I was a bit skeptical about….I was actually laughing when I read how to cook them. Aright, grab a microwave safe plate.
Grease it, and place the cookies on it. Place them inside the microwave, and cook in 1 minute increments. Watching and smelling. Mine were done after the 3rd minute, maybe the 4th. Andddddd….viola!
I mean. CAN YOU BELIEVE!?

Then, these pretty little baby’s came out. Listen, they’re not gooey, they’re not gonna be slightly browned. (Duh, they were cooked in a micro) and they’re not gonna taste like your grandmothers famous cookies, but hell, they are super yummy, dense, ridiculous healthy, like REALLY… Only 130 calories for THE WHOLE BATCH!! Get into it.

Girls and boys, if this year, your resolution is to get fit, then you have to remember, it’s not just the gym that needs to get on point, but your diet does too. They go hand and hand. This is the FIT way to eat cookies!

Friends, seriously, time to get back to the healthy you. before you scarfed down all those holiday goodies…. 😉 let’s get back to our veggie eating selves. I’ve got a recipe that is to die for….Forget about the Brussels sprouts that you used to know. That old, steamed, BLAH reputation they had, needs to kicked in the ass. Brussels sprouts are the THING. If you’ve never liked them before, you are gonna freak out at what a LOVER you will become of these perfect, nutritious, and delicious little morsels. I’ll admit, growing up, I was never a big fan of anything green, holy moly, I was missing out all of these years. Now, folks are playing around with new recipes of this veggie, make it more delicious than evaaaaa! Let me give you a bit of background on these bad boys…
Brussels sprouts are loaded with vitamin A, folacin, potassium, calcium. They have 3-5 grams of fiber per cup, and at 25 calories per 1/2 cup cooked, they give us a reason to eat them more often. Brussels sprouts are one of those foods that will fill you up, without filling you out.

Brussels sprouts are very high in fiber, and they belong to the disease-fighting cabbage family. Indeed, they look like miniature cabbages. Like broccoli and cabbage — fellow cruciferous vegetables — Brussels sprouts may protect against cancer with their indole, a phytochemical.

Brussels sprouts are also particularly rich in vitamin C, another anti-cancer agent. Whether you choose them for their healthiness or because you love Brussels sprouts, one thing is certain: You will be getting a good-for-the-body food that is high in protein and low in fat and calories.

Ok, now that you have the FACTS, lets move on to making, eating , and enjoying.
This is just one of the ways to eat brussels. I love them shaved and raw in salad form, in the skillet, and roasted. Once you find your new love of them, trust me, you’re gonna want to play around.
This recipe has become a staple in house for the holidays! Now that the holidays are over…. You best believe I will be making huge batches of this to pair with anything and everything.

Ok, this is what you will need to do:
First, pre-heat your oven to 350 degrees.
You will need a roasting dish or baking sheet lined with foil that covers the bottom of pan, and is has enough length to then cover over the pan.
Now, you will rinse your Brussels, stem and 1/2 them.
Toss with coconut oil or olive oil. Just preference
Sprinkle with salt and pepper and toss with your fave roasted vegetable seasoning. I love this one.

Once oven is ready, and heated. Place tossed brussel sprouts in dish, and cover with the remaining length of foil. The overall cooking time is 20 minutes.
The first 10, you will cook them COVERED. ( This will ensure that they don’t brown too quickly, yet soften with the moisture under their cover)
The last 10 minuted UNCOVERED.( Now we can get the beautiful bit of char)

While these are in the oven, grab a small oiled skillet, and throw in your chopped or thinly sliced shallots, garlic, raisins, and salt & pepper.
On low/med heat, Sautée this until softened. The shallots should look a little crispy and the raisins, plump and juicy.

And now, for the plating:
AKA: my FAVORITE part.
Remove from oven and let cool for 5 mins.
Place them in a beautiful dish and top with sautéed raisins and shallots, oh and I threw in a sprinkle of sesame seeds;)
But…. To make even more of a presence, top with shaved fresh Parmesan.
RIDICULOUS.

Can you tell it’s the holidays!? It’s all about food this week. I took off yesterday and today from the gym, and I’m not gonna lie, I’ve been indulging in EVERY way possible! I know I’ll be paying for it later, but, let me just have my “WHATEVER” moment, ok. I’m not the only one who falls off during this time of year.

The shenanigans started last night when I met up with me friend Cale, who I feel like I haven’t seen in ages. I went by his place after work yesterday, and we caught up over a great bottle of wine. Cale is a an amazing hairstylist. I’ve known him since we were, I don’t know, something like 14-15 years old.We both studied at the Vidal Sassoon Academy. After I finished school, I actually ended up staying there and becoming an instructor, and he was my student. He gets mad when I tell people that I was his teacher;) He is now is a successful stylist, working at John Frieda and also working freelance. PROUD.

We walked over to a local favorite spot, Comme Ca. French food is my ultimate demise. I just can’t resist. A total fave! We both are complete foodies, so this is where the indulging really began….

We started with a delicious French red, and shared a delicious array of cheeses and charcuterie. I swear if I could eat just that for the rest of my life, I would die happy! And YES, I ATE LOTS OF BREAD. Bread lady for dayyyyys!

For my entree, I ordered SEARED DIVER SEA SCALLOPS with
potato gnocchi, wild mushroom, swiss chard. I mean…..how could I resist. Cooked to perfection.

Oh no, the battle of the binge didn’t end there…..
The next day was our annual Sassoon Holiday Pot Luck. I get scared when these pot lucks come around. I completely lose my shit. It is like slow torture. I couldn’t seem to get away from it! Cakes, cookies, dips, just all gnarlyness!!!
I was beyond, BEYOND bad today.

We’ve got a Moroccan in the house, so she brought her famous lamb tagine, which was completely authentic, took hours to complete, and tasted divine.

I took some home to share with the farm tomorrow:) my brother obsesses over peanut butter, so I’m sure he’ll appreciate:) I won’t a tell you how many I had. I was From fit to Fries today.

Hello my Morning sweetnasssssses!

Saturday morning… This is what greets me as I walk in the door of the staff room.

I need to step into a carb-O-holics anonymous meeting RIGHT now!

Goodies, upon GoODieS, upon GOODIES!

 Every holiday of course, especially when you work in the service industry, is a the absolute WORST time to start or keep to a diet.

Clients: I LOVE you all, but, “Do you understand that, you are testing every inch of my will power right now!!!??”

Ughhhhh. I felt vulnerable today, and DUG in!

By the end of the day, I counted:

1 oatmeal/raisin cookie (small but fatty)

1 homemade madeline

A piece of the banana/chocolate chip bread

A piece of the Lemon loaf cake (I died)

1/2 of a small snickerdoodle

along with all of my packed snack goodies I had brought in my packed lunch including:

1/2 cup 0% greek yogurt

1/4 cup blueberries

A handful of mixed nuts

An apple

 

I mean….really.

 

I’m a cow. That is all.

 

I was so hungry today, I must be getting the BIG “P”.

This is the only expanation. well, the other explanation would be, that my mind just said “F it, Binge girl, it’s the HOLIDAYS!”

Of course, to counter balance the shit I snacked on all freakin day, I opted for a very delicious salad. Compliments of yours truly;)

It was a rather large ” Green Girl Salad:

Organic baby lettuce

Frisee lettuce

Chopped Chard

1/2 an avocado

Chopped mushrooms

1 heart of palm

1 tsp Sesame seeds

1/2 stalk chopped green onions

Chopped cilantro/ basil

2 tbsp RAW salsa

1 tbsp chia oil

1/2 tsp liquid aminos (similar to soy sauce)

Siracha

Salt & pepper

It was AMAZE baLZ!

I’ve decided that It’s not a good idea to drive by myself to the cabin tonight. I desperately need new tires, so night time driving up to the mtn is a no go. I didn’t expect to get out so late. BUMMER.

Mom and her girlfriends are up there already having a blast. I’m sure, drinking wine by the fire, cracking up, and being cuties.

I’ve instead, opted to drive up early morning. You all know that I’m up at the crack of dawn anyway, so, NO BIGS.

Dropping off willy first with Pops, then making the 2 1/2 hr treck. Dad’s a great babysitter;)

 

Random: but. does anyone else HATE riding with their goggles on??

Mom and the chicks leave mid afternoon on Sunday, and since I have Monday off, I decided, hey, why not. Ill stay at the cabin and enjoy it alone Sunday night Have a fire, read a book, have a glass of wine, and get up early Mon morning to hit the slopes.

I think I’ll just do a 1/2 day lift tix on Mon, so I can drive home in “not SOOO bad of traffic”. If you live in LA, you know there is no such thing as a ‘no’ traffic hour. By 2 p.m your screwed, wherever you are coming from.

Oh well, I’m planning to be relaxed by then;)

Get in the SPIRIT with my CUTIE Christmas MACAROON Trees!

Hey guys!

OK, so I know I’m not the only one round here who goes a bit cray cray during the holidays! Sweets and treats all around us. If you are like me and have a a hard time controlling yourself around all those high calorie foods that seem to be the little devils on our shoulders, but you wanna enjoy Christmas with the rest of em’ , well, I’ve got a fun, sweet, (and if you love coconut) delish little recipe for you babes!
Ok, so most of you know,( and if you don’t know, now you know) I love me some Martha Stewart. I am a proud subscriber to her “Living” magazine. The other day as I was home, flipping though the pages, I came across this recipe.
First thing I thought was ” oooohhh this can be actually a healthy recipe!” Then I thought “perfect for Christmas, and super cute!”

The original recipe called for 3/4 cup sugar, but of course I wasn’t down with all that, soooo, I changed it to suite us..

INGREDIENTS:

2 1/2 cups finely shredded (dehydrated/or fresh) I used unsweetened reduced fat shredded coconut (whole foods)

1/2 cup erythritol ( which you can also find at whole foods)

2 large egg whites, lightly beaten

4-5 tsps of vanilla extract ( I used Madagascar pure vanilla bean paste) love that stuff

Pinch of salt

(Optional, for looks: confectioners sugar for dusting) to get that snowy look

DIRECTIONS:

Pre-heat oven to 350 degrees.
Thoroughly combine coconut, erythritol,egg whites, vanilla, and salt in a med/lrg bowl.
Mix really well with a large fork and hands.
Begin to form little trees with your hands, using your fingertips to make pointed tops.
Line a baking sheet with foil or parchment, make sure to grease whatever you use so that the coconut doesn’t stick.
Space them out evenly
Bake until edges are golden and trees are firm.
10-12 minutes but begin checking at 10.
Let cool and dust with snow:)

Bring these to a party, they would look great at the dessert table!

 I’M SORE!!!!

The day after a big race, my body definitely aches.I woke up with lots of bruises on my legs from all the freakin crawling under barbed wire! yeah, I know, but somehow, I felt stronger than ever! That accomplishment felt amazing! I REALLY recommend doing something like that at least one time in your life!

 

On to another note…. My friend posted this on my facebood today, and I died laughing! It made my day! I used o be like, OBSESSED with Selena!

I was up early excited to start my day with a morning stretch an a nice stroll around the neighborhood with Willy. December seriously started out with a bang, and I want to stay on that roll. So even though I was sore as hell, I geared up and headed to my Monday morning ZUMBA class. I’m sure I’ve mentioned before how much I love Zumba, but If you are new to my blog… Let me tell you, it was probably my favorite workout EVER! I burn approx. 500-600 cals in an hour. I go FULL out. My instructor Sandy Campanella rocks the house and inspires you to give it your all. I will be interviewing her soon so be on the lookout. For those of you looking for a fun and effective workout in the San fernando Valley, CHECK HER OUT!  It really does make a huge difference in a workout, when you totally LOVE the teacher. In my eyes, makes or breaks it. Especially in Zumba where not just the moves have to be upbeat and contemporary, but the instructor has to show the kind of enthusiasm that you see in movies.

 I could easily take Zumba at my local gym for free, but, there is no comparison. Absolutely none. This is a shot of my sweaty ass below:) I hour of pure cardio!

I wanted to share with you guys today’s meals, If that’s ok with you?;)

Breakfast consisted of my Green Goddess Morning Smoothie

 Along with my ritual coffee and almond milk. Mom had made some fresh low-carb cran-orange muffins,so she sent me home with a couple to try. They were sooo good. No one would ever guess they were low-carb. I’m stealing the recipe and I promise to make them ASAP to share with all of you babes!

 

Of course after Zumba I was starved, so I munched on some organic low-fat cottage cheese topped with my Low-Carb Granola, and some fresh blueberries. Not gonna lie…I ate more granola than pictured….

Then I headed out to the local TJ’s for my weekly shopping extravaganza. Sometimes i trip out at how well priced this place is. I swear I fill up the cart to the rim everytime, and it pretty much never exceeds $100 bucks. Now, on the other hand if I go to Whole Foods for some specialty items, (u must admit, that place, although not cheap, is quality) I end up spending the same amount on 15 things. Cray cray. It’s all about prioritizing. I save by always making and preparing my own meals, pretty much every meal instead of ordering in.

Well, the evening was over until my sweet tooth took a turn on me.

I busted out this big ol’ chunk of carob chips that had frozen together. ( i keep them in the freezer, they stay fresh for when I’m ready to bake them). YUMMMMMMM

Today’s post is short but sweet. I just want to welcome all my new From Fries To Fit followers and subscribers! Let’s start off December together!  I cannot believe that December has finally come around the corner! November came and went super fast. Thanksgiving was amazing and now, time to start getting jolly for Christmas! I can’t really say that I’m quite ready to start decorating, and shopping, but I’m glad to say that last month was a successful fitness/health month, and am planning to make it an even better December in those departments. I’m going into this month with a more positive outlook, ready to start planning events, and ready to hit it hard at the gym with no excuses! I want to prioritize better this month. Last month I felt a bit overwhelmed and hectic. Sometimes when you are all over the place, and there is a lot to get done, you get a little agitated.

I’m hoping to this month, start creating a new office space so that I can achieve some more balance and organization.

 

Let’s see how many of these we can capture! So cute:)

I love Christmas.

Lay in the supine position with the knees bent at 90 degrees and the feet f

lat on the floor. The hands are interlaced behind the neck and the elbows are out. Slowly curl the torso upwards, until the shoulder blades are about an inch or two off of the floor. Slowly return to the start position. Don’t pull on the neck while doing this exercise; keep the elbows back and the head and neck in a neutral position.

Bicycles:
Lay in the supine position with the legs extended and the hands inter

 

laced behind the neck. Crunch up slightly and hold. While holding the crunch position, flex the right hip and knee and rotate the torso so that the left elbow moves towards the right knee. Repeat with the opposite leg and continue until the desired repetitions have been reached.

Back Scratchers:
Lay in the supine position with the knees bent at 90 degrees and the feet flat on the floor. The arms are straight by the side. Curl up so that the shoulder blades are just off of the floor and tuck the chin in to take stress off of the neck. Laterally flex the spine from side to side touching one heel and then the other.

Rotating Crunch:
Lay in the supine position with the knees bent at 90 degrees and the

feet flat on the floor. Flex the right hip and place the right foot on the left knee. The right knee should be pointing outward. The right arm i

s straight by the side. Place the left hand behind the head with the left elbow pointing out to the side. Curl up and rotate towards the right knee. Keep the elbow out, think about bringing the left shoulder towards the right knee. Perform the desired number of repetitions and then switch to the other side.

Leg Lowers:Lay in the supine position with the legs extended, and the arms straight by the side. Begin by flexing the knees and hips moving the knees towards the chest. Once the hips are fully flexed, extend the knees a

nd slowly lower the straightened legs to the floor. When the feet are about six inches from the floor repeat the sequence. The key during this exercise is to maintain a neutral lower spine throughout the movement. Brace the stomach muscles as if someone was going to punch you in the gut. Keep the back from arching.

Scissor kicks:
Lay in the supine position with the legs extended, and the arms straightene

d by the side. Raise the legs so that the feet are about 12 inches off of the floor. Open and close the legs for one repetition. The key during this exercise is to maintain a neutral lower spine th

roughout the movement. Brace the stomach muscles as if someone was going to punch you in the gut. Keep the back from arching,

Side crunch:
Lay in the supine position with the knees bent at 90 degrees and the feet flat on the f

loor. Roll the hips to one side, but keep both shoulders flat on the floor. Crunch up by lifting the shoulders off of the floor. Repeat for the desired number of repetitions and then repeat on the other side.

Vertical toe touches:
Start with the legs straight but flexed at the hip so they form a 90 degree angle. The feet should be pointed towards the ceiling. Crunch up and try and reach the toes. The shoulder blades should come off the floor by about 6 inches. Perform the repetitions under control. Tuck the chin to prevent straining of the neck.

 

I’m feeling pretty ready. Tonight, I was supposed to meet with my friend jules, but we decided to reincheck till next week. I need to relax. I’m enjoying a glass of wine as we speak. Tomorrow, I need to be on it. I need to make sure I get the proper nutrition. i.e. not eat to much…just for fuel. I read in the Spartan race printout that there will only be ONE aid spot, meaning they want you to race with a freakin camel pack!

WTF. !: why don’t they provide enough water?

What kind of shit is that, race with a backpack??? yeah right.

So tomorrow’s goal is to stay really hydrated, maybe it’ll help me Sunday.

After the this little ab BURNER, I wanted something yummy! I still had a bunch of kale and chard from last weeks farmer’s market . So I made a super healthy PROTEIN SMOOTHIE! Check out above for the recipe!

I love recycled kombucha bottles eggggggzacly for this purpose. I take my smoothies and juices to go! This one is coming to work with me:)

It was a rainy morning so I made sure to stick Willy in his little bomber jacket before we headed out for the morning stroll.

It was a short one today cuz it started coming down hard. No thanks.

I swear every morning I look so ridiculous when we go for a walk. I’m always in some hideous PJ/mumu/costume.I’m sure people get a right LAUGH. Today it’s my duck rainboots with my bright ass yellow sweatpants tucked in.(not pictured: blue bomber vest and colorful beanie.  Gooooooood Lord.

I usually get all of my packages delivered to work, and today was a lovely surprise of CHIA drinks from Fitfluential!

This company is awesome. These drinks are what athletes need! Not some sugary gatorade or redbull, yuck, supply your body with the right nutrients and without any junk or gnarly amounts of sugar. Drink these up for hydration, endurance, heart health and brain power! Literally shake and take!

They are only 40 calories people! compare to 180-320 calories in other drinks.

1.5 grams of fat

2 grams of fiber

4 grams sugar

1 gram protein

Took one to work today and compared it with my girlfriends’ Trader Joe’s brand strawberry chia smoothie. I was shocked! Hers had 24 sugar grams for just half the bottle. I think sometimes, with drinks, we forget to look at the back (nutrition info) because we really don’t expect it to be that bad.  You guys, the CALORIES we DRINK count too!!

With these drinks, you don’t have to worry about breaking your calorie bank:)

Oh and not to mention, they are soooo tasty!

And continuing with the CHIA kick, I have a new obsession at work! Random ingredient salads with chia oil and and organic tamari (glen-free). Best combo salad dressing ever! You guys should try. If you can’t find chia oil (I found mine at RAW food world) you could also use hemp or flax oil. All really high in the omegas department.

THE BOMB SALAD

Mid day I was having my usual sweet craving. I didn’t have anything today in my packed lunch that sounded tasty so my co-worker busted out with a bag of RAW sprouted trailmix from whole foods.

It was a delicious mix of cashews, pumpkin seeds, sunflower seeds, almonds, walnuts, and all kinds of dried amazon berries. HOLY, IM ABOUT TO FLIP THE EFF OUT. I snagged one handful, then another….ok then I stopped but, my craving was cured.

 After work, I was supposed to meet up with my girlfriend Jules to have a rainy day stay in dinner but we had to rein check because of a last minute work call. womp woommmmp.

Oh well, I went home, had the most random snacky plate dinner ever.
