MOTHER’S DAY IDEAS!

In family, GIFT IDEAS, Uncategorized On April 30, 2015 0 Comments

Hello Beauties:)

Hope everyone is having a GREAT week! As I get prepped and ready for my italian vacation (I knowwwwwww!), I wanted to make sure that I paid homage to all the incredible MOMS out there! Since I won’t be able to celebrate on the actual day, I am making sure to celebrate my wonderful mom and grandmother this Sunday!

I consider myself VERY lucky to be able to call my Mom one of my best friends. She listens…(even when I’m irrational), she doesn’t judge…(even when I royaly F*%k up), She assures me that I’m perfect just the way I am…(even after I’ve devoured a whole pizza and look like a cow), and she gives me my space when I need to think.

This year, I feel blessed to have my Grandma finally here from Argentina,( after 20 years of trying to get her here!) and can’t wait to have a girls day of Love, Family, food, and celebrating!

I know everyone is different, but after doing some research in looking for the best, unique gifts for Mom..I think I’ve come up with a handful of affordable, beautiful gifts that Mom would freak over:)

1:

Ok. This is STUNNING!!! If it wasn’t Mother’s Day, I’d be buying this beauty for myself gurrrl! This personalized ” love birch cuff”, is a made-to order gift by: Nancy Nelson for Uncommongoods.com

$100

 Love this:

Each one is custom engraved with two sets of initials, evoking the romantic tradition of carving lovers’ names into bark. Jewelry artist Nancy Nelson hand casts the brass band from real birch bark that she collected along the southern shore of Lake Superior in Wisconsin. The detailed texture of the bark evokes the rich, spontaneous stroke of an artist’s brush. The understated heart cutout pairs beautifully with the birch tree’s traditional symbolism of protection and resilience. Handmade in West Virginia.

2:

Cork watch by: SPROUT.  An eco friendly watch company. I’m sorry…but you don’t have to be a total wino to appreciate the sasssss in this timepiece! It’s different, super cute and wearable, and oh yeah… only…

$45

Love this:

Its slender band is made from all-natural cork, derived from the sustainably harvested bark of the Cork Oak. Cork is durable, flexible, and naturally water resistant. It’s paired with a casing made from biodegradable corn resin, and a mercury-free battery.

3:

Mom’s would do anything for their children. In fact…they’re so obsessed with us, that they would want nothing more than to wear our initials around their neck. Yep. FLAUNTING! This is a fabulous gift idea babes! Its a beautiful 14 karat filled (won’t tarnish. WAYYYY better than gold plated)personalized necklace by ACharmedImpression at Etsy for ONLY:

$30

4:

This reversible tote handbag by TARGET is modern, stylish & the best part…OVERSIZED! Perfect to throw allll mom shit in! LOL. Work stuff, gym stuff, kid stuff, beach stuff. It’s legitimately the bombbbb. Only:

$36.99

Love this:

It’s vegan…and reversable!

 5:

I don’t care where you live…the sun shines everywhere! Well, at least at some point throughout the year. Lol. Here in LA…Hats are not only an accessory, but a necessity ya’ll. This gem I scored on the H&M website and don’t hesitate to browse at all the other styles available too! Only:

$14.95

Love this:

Straw hat and actually comes in sizes!!! NOT one size fits all bullshit! woohooo

6:

Last but not least…Thissss! While browsing through my Pinterest, I saw this and thought…WOW. This would be a perfect centerpiece for a dining table! I don’t know bout’ your fams, but we like to eat…we like to throw parties, BBQ’S, and gather around a table to celebrate life… If you don’t know me by now…I’m OBSESSED with flowers…fresh, that is. C’mon, what girl isn’t mmmkayyy! This caterpillar bud vase allows you to pick fresh from the garden, put one flower, or even just a branch. Whatever mix match you want. It’s the perfect way to set the tome for you entertaining. MOM’S FREAK OVER THIS:) ONLY:

$38.00

Love this:

If a single bud in a vase punctuates your decor with color and life, then this unique piece is more like an entire poem. The row of glass bubbles each holds a small blossom or two, allowing you to create a delicate floral centerpiece. Celebrate the changing palette of wildflowers throughout the year, or capture garden blooms, juxtaposing their shapes and colors into the perfect visual haiku.

Put a little extra though into it this year, and plan something special:)These are the moments that make memories that really matter. I know you don’t have to wait for a holiday..but to be honest….I don’t think we celebrate life enough. Especially celebrating those who brought life to us. I hope that one day… my kids love me, and respect me as much as I do the women in my life.

To all you Mamasitas out there..

HAPPY MOTHER’S DAY!

I’m Backkkkkk!!!!

In family, Uncategorized On April 10, 2015 6 Comments

Oh heyyyyooooo!!!! Well, well, well….look who’s back!!! Oh boy…where do I EVEN start? So, here it goes. After a longgggg (over a year:/) hiatus…I’m happy to say, From Fries To Fit has finally made a return. Lol. I’m not gonna sit here and bore you with everything that’s gone on within this past year that I haven’t been writing, but I will say…life keeps you on your toes, I mean…life has flipped upside down, and now, I’m returning to find a very happy balance. That is, in life, love, and health.

I no longer obsess or have anxiety over being in perfect shape, counting every calorie, or bingeing. Every lil bit of progress that I’ve made this past year has made my quality of life so much better. Who cares if you fluctuate a few pounds. That’s life. So whatever. With that being said… My posts starting now, will be more focused on what I truly enjoy…and that is cooking, family, travel, healthy living, style, decor, and entertaining. Not constant posts about training and fitness. To. Be honest, that just ended up sending me into a whirlwind of constantly trying to keep up.

So, bare with me y’all. I will VERY soon be updating the site with a new look. If you all don’t yet follow me on instagram as @fromfriestofit…do so now puleazzzeeee.

In more recent news, lol….I now have short hair. Well…it was short. Now, I’m all…”long hair, don’t care!” I’m growing it. Woohoo. It’s finally past the awkward stage. Girls, you know what I mean by this. Color wise…still ombre. Honestly, it may be a bit 2013, but IDGAF. It’s low maintenance and I’m kinda feelin’ it. If you’re looking for a great colorist in LA, see my girl Christina at Román Salon.

Welp…there they are. My favorite peeps. Been very fortunate to be spending a lot more time hangin’ with my cute lil fam. Oh look…I’m drinking a margarita…what a surprise. Lol. Here we are enjoying a vegan night out ( brothers’ a veg.) at Gracias Madre in LA. I love this pic because we rarely go out to eat as a family. We are much more, at home BBQ type folks, but I gotta tell ya…as a non vegan, I realllly enjoyed the food! The restaurant is STUNNING, the bar is really rustic looking with a very open feel. The outdoor space is…I mean, forget it. Cozy, inviting, and a bit old Mexico style. I highly recommend it. Even just for the chips, salsa, and a jalapeño margarita with your girls;)

My other loves….these boys. Been spending a bit of time, as of lately, traveling back n forth from the Bay Area visiting my man (we switch off every 12 days lol) and his big, bear faced rot, Sonny. Swooooon. (You all know my crazy poodle mix, Wilbur already<3) Ok, yes. It’s long distance, but not by far. Yes, it’s hard, but we make it work… And, yes, crazy and for each other.;) Anyway…love this pic. Typical Sunday at the parental unit, eating lots of Argentinian BBQ meat and chorizo. Das right.

Since I’ve seen you last on FF2F…I’ve picked up a new hobby. Yep. So into it. I mean…I haven’t yet played an actual game lmao…but working on my swing like a profeshhhh. With a coach n’ all. Say what you will now betches, soon enough…I’ll be Tiger Woods’n circles around your asses. Lol. In the sun, beer in hand, and someone else carrying my clubs. Byeeee. Wouldn’t thaaaaat be niceeeee!? I figured this sport, and yes, I consider it a sport…not just a game, would be a nice switch up from my typical crazy workouts, or more extreme sports I’ve played. It’s all about enjoying the outdoors and not being so hard on my body.

Within the past year…all my besties are now preggo, married, or engaged. Lol. Lots of showers of all sorts to plan. Can’t wait to share pics and ideas!

Probably the most influential part of this year, was this woman right here. My beautiful grandmother who was recently diagnosed with terminal cancer. After 30 years of us living in the states, and her in Argentina…we were finally able to get her here to spend the rest of her life with us, her family. Only positive and happy vibes from here on out…and a mammogram ASAP. I don’t care if I’m only 31. Early detection is key babes.

As I start this new chapter of From Fries To Fit, I want to thank you all for letting me share a piece of me with you. I’m feeling really good about this, and I can’t wait to share some great recipes, entertaining & decor ideas, style and beauty inspiration…

Keep in touch and be on the lookout! Xoxox

Your new summer drink… low cal wine!!!!!!

In At home cooking, bbq, blogger fun, Dinner dates, family, new faves, Reviews, Sponsored, Uncategorized On April 21, 2014 0 Comments

20140421-182545.jpg

Hey guys! Hope everyone enjoyed a fabulous weekend off! I had a super relaxing and fun weekend. Well, full of errands, but also full of fam and friends time:) got a couple if really great workouts in as well. That always makes me feel amazing. Sunday we did the Santa Monica Stairs, and today, I took a great barre class at Exhale in the gorgeous Fairmont Hotel in Santa Monica. Nice switch up from Sundays cardio. We smashed those stairs though, for real. My calves were begging for mercy in Barre today! Lol.
Anyway, I I wanted to share with y’all a little review I did on some really fab new wines from Brancott Estate. I was asked to review them, #1: cuz you know this chick lovessss her vino, and #2: cuz it’s totally up all our alleys!!!

20% lighter in calories!!!!
Y’all know I love to find new and great ways to still enjoy these treats without being a cow, so I thought it would be appropriate, right!?!?
LOW CALORIE WINE!?
Jeeeeezzzzuzzzzzz! Faaaakkkkk! Sign me up.

Let me brake it down…
* Compared with Brancott Estate Sauvignon Blanc 2012 & Pinot Grigio 2012. Per 5 fl. oz. serving of Brancott Estate Flight Song Sauvignon Blanc / Pinot Grigio. Average Analysis: Calories 88/87, Carbohydrates 4.5g/5.2g, Protein Og/Og, Fat Og/Og

20140421-071032.jpg
Now…again, I have to tell you this, cuz I’m profeshhhhhh, but seriously, always bring you my true opinion.
(I participated in an Influencer Activation on behalf of Millennial Central for Brancott Estate Wines. I received product samples to facilitate my review as well as a promotional item to thank me for my participation.)

These wines are sooo perfect for this beautiful sunny weather we are having! They are not heavy on the alcohol, so you will not feel like a sack of rocks, but also very light and crisp. For me…there is nothing light a glass of chilled white in the warm weather!

20140421-071049.jpg

The first one I tried from my lil swag bag, was the Brancott Pinot Grigio.

Clearly, this is a fun wine to enjoy with a girlfriend! I mean, you could also enjoy with the boyfriend..with fam…or at home alone like a creep too. Lol. I headed to my friend Jule’s house for some snacks and give this a go. We are both into clean eating and lighter fare, so this was our girls evening!
*CHEESE
*BERRIES
*ROASTED PEPPERS
* RAW WALNUTS

20140421-071059.jpg

Ook, so…the bottle seemed to have gone wayyyyy to fast. It was a warm night in the valley, and it was just what the doc ordered. Super crisp with a nice clean finish. It was delectable! Absolutely nothing heavy about this wine at all!
In fact, Jules was even asking about getting a case for an upcoming party. What I loved, was that there was nothing complicated about it. Really can be paired with a lot! This particular Pinot Grigio captures wonderful floral notes, ripe apple and nashi pear & pure freshness. Full of taste and lighter in calories. (A freakin bonus!)

20140421-071112.jpg

The other gem that I tried was baby! The Sauvignon Blanc.

20140421-071147.jpg
Now this one…now this one was a family affair! We all had a bit with our Easter Argentinian BBQ;)
Dad was “Grill Master” of course, and he neverrrrr lets down!

20140421-071207.jpg
Dinner consisted of:

**ENTRAÑA (skirt steak)

**CHORI-PAN

**SALAD (traditional oil/vinegar)

**HOMEMADE BRUSCHETTA

**GRILLED VEGGIES

**CRUSTY BAGUETTES

**CHIMICHURRI

YEP. That could could NOT get anymore Argentinian!

20140421-071214.jpg
The Sauvignon Blanc is definitely a a bit more full-flavored. Still very crisp but also a smooth finish. For upcoming info check into their facebook page and stay in the know!

20140421-071221.jpg
I love this cute quote;)
You can find these great wines at most groceries stores and I highly recommend you try at least one. At a great price point, it’s definitely a Cali come up!
Happy Monday babes!!!

For example what I did this morning.

1 1/2 BANANA PROTEIN COOKIES BEFORE WEIGHT TRAINING (killed shoulders and abs)

POST WORKOUT : 6 EGG WHITES.

This is the perfect balance or carbs for energy before lifting and protein post training.

Instructions
  1. Pre-heat oven to 350 degrees.
  2. Mix rolled oats and protein powder well.

I am a huge believer in MORNING FITNESS! This silly selfie, like allll my gym selfies, are taken between 5 AM- 7 AM. YEP. I’ve always preached it. The best part about early morning workouts, your body still practically has no idea what the fuck is going on, so you could pretty much trick it into doing anything! lol. The second best thing, is that, you realllly set the tone for the rest of your day. When you start your day on the right foot, on the “fit” foot, you are less likely to binge throughout the day.
I promise you that.

Check this out…. See if you can give yourself 1 WEEKto try and wake up just a bit earlier and and get in a morning workout!
Here are a few tips to help jump start you!

This weekend was solely committed to spending time with my family who is here visiting from Argentina. They are amazing people and being with them absolutely made my week sooooo much better:)
Family is key through the good and the bad. Is is a shot of us this weekend at my folks house doing what we do best. BBQinnnnnngggg!!! Yeehaw!

Homies till the end. The phreshhhhhest cousins around!
20140225-183545.jpg
Fresh flowers this week to make my bathroom more pretty:) not usually a red rose kinda girl, but hey, there’s a first for everything.

So, the reason I’ve been quite busy….well, I’ve been killin it at the gym # 1, lol, but also because I’ve had some of my family from Argentina visiting! Woohoo;) These are some of my FAVORITE people in this world, I swear. When I’m not at the salon, or the gym…I’m with Family:)

This past weekend we took them to Sequoia National Park. This place is stunning! I told them to get geared up for snow……but they had no idea what I meant. Lol
Here we are…before the storm..chains…and almost getting stuck on the mountain. No bigs. Happy as pigs in shit.

My beautiful people. How cute are they;) awwwwww.
20140211-185242.jpg
Oh you know, just tryin to get a bit creative with the shots. Lol.
We jumped in the car after this stop, and that’s when shit got real.
Did I mention…..THEY’VE NEVER SEEN SNOW!? We were staying at the Wuksachi Lodge, in the heart of Sequoia.
20140211-185256.jpg
Finally, 4.5 hrs of driving…a bit of car sickness, and a lil nap…we arrived!
Please take notice of the gear they’ve got on. Hahahahaa. I just love them…they fuckin showed up in jeans, and converse!!!!! lol. What r ya gonna do!.
20140211-185311.jpg
I think they thought, “oh, we’ll see some snow capped trees, see a little snow on the ground…nothin major..” Bahahahahaha.
Reality check y’all. Snow to your KNEES in some parts ! My poor cousins….2 pairs of socks…then wrapped their feet in plastic bags…then put their converse on ! Lol
20140211-185321.jpg
I haven’t see this much snow in a reallllllly long time! It was soooooo beautiful. I highly recommend this weekend trip to all of you. especially if you live in LA, where it always feels like summer ;)
20140211-185332.jpg

20140211-185405.jpg

The lodge was stunning and our room had huge windows where we could look our and have amazing views of those beautiful trees. If I wasn’t sledding outside or eating snow, I was doing this right herrrrrrrrrrrrr!
A glass of red in front of the fire.
Quite possibly one of my favorite things to do on this earth.
#1: be cozy
#2: with a glass of Pinot
#3: by a fire

20140211-185427.jpg
On the second day, we headed to see the big Redwoods. Wow…..
Seriously SPECTACULAR!
I hadn’t been to sequoia since I was like 14 or 15, and when I went, it was fall or spring, so I had never experienced this view before. The biggest and baddest tree around y’all. I give you GENERAL SHERMAN.
20140211-185438.jpg

A look back at the holiday….

In Christmas, family, life, Uncategorized On December 24, 2013 1 Comment

Hey y’all!!!! I am so embarrassed that I have absolutely neglected my duty as a blogger:( I have fallen off the map! Not that it’s an excuse….but life has been cray cray. I didn’t just neglect my blog, I also neglected to stay on my regimen of a healthy diet and exercise . I was on such a roll, I swear! It makes me soooo mad. And, although everyone just keeps saying, “whatever, it’s the holidays!” It’s still no excuse to totally throw everything you work so hard for throughout the year, out da windowwwwww! Anyway. That’s my sob story. I won’t tell you how much weight I’ve gained, cuz it doesn’t matter. Lol.
Anyway… Even though I have fallen off my plan for a couple months.. It’s time to pick myself up, and start fresh. Cliche? Maybe. But… I love beginnings;) I’ve got some very cool posts coming up and some changes to the site for the new year!

Today…my first day back to FROM FRIES TO FIT….I wanted to have a quick look back at some fun holiday moments. I love Christmas!!!

20140104-074449.jpg

The best part about the holidays are….the PARTIES!!

20131223-173204.jpg
It was a bit nonstop. It felt like every weekend was party time! My friend Lindsay hosted a super fun holiday party along with a sexy bad Santa to pose with. Lol. Of course I was all ” ohhhhhh, take a picture!”

20131223-173213.jpg
Yep…..there was an ice sculpture.

20131223-173222.jpg

I hosted the family in my lil North Pole for a fun holiday pizza making party! If you remember my last post….. (Photos of the decorations) I went a little Christmas crazy. Ugh, I love that shit. Well, I hope you saw it, cuz a week back, I accidentally deleted the post! Womppppppp wompppppp. I don’t know what the hell I did. I was super bummed.
Anyway, we had a blast!

20131223-173241.jpg
Yesssssss, that is real pizza crust! Hunny….my usual “low carb self” was thrown out the window. No judging. It was soooooo tasty. We made like 4 different kinds of delicious pizza.

20131223-173252.jpg
CHEEEEEEERRRRRSSSS!!!!

20131223-173301.jpg
My sweet cousins came to visit! So of course, I hosted yet another delicious dinner;) more pizzzzzzzaaaa! Hahah. And yes, the wine was flowing. As usual.

20131223-173336.jpg
As you all know, in August, I left my salon Vidal Sassoon, to continue my career at Román Salon. I spent many years with these people and they became a part of my extended family. I was lucky enough to join them as a guest at the annual holiday party. This year’s theme was “White Winter Wonderland” this dinner was fantastic! It was a black tie affair darling. ;)

20131223-173447.jpg
Everywhere you looked, WHITE! It was really beautiful.

20131223-173454.jpg
Love this. All white wrapping paper:)

20131223-173501.jpg
Not only was all the decor white…..

20131223-173510.jpg
All the food was white! Lol. The chef was amazing and turned that shit OUT! Dayyyyum.

20131223-173517.jpg
Christmas Eve was mellow. Just what I wanted. It was just my folks, my cuz, and I. Unfortunately, my brother and his girlfriend weren’t able to get here from Vancouver:( but we made the best of it, and skyped while opening presents at midnight:)
Dinner was healthy and delicious. Roasted chicken and veggies, and garlic bread. That’s right. I ate that shit up!
Christmas Day was also a beautiful sunny day, so Marcin and I spent the day at the beach:)
Marcin is polish, and I was lucky enough to have my first traditional Polish Christmas dinner.
PIEROGIES! Yup, homemade!
Along with red BORSCHT soup, with mushroom pierogies.

20140104-080749.jpg

I die! This dinner was fabulous! Merry Christmas to meeeeeee! I am obsessed with pierogies;)

20140104-080755.jpg
As you know, no meal is complete with a touch of something sweet.
Traditional polish poppy seed swirl cake. Makowiec (poppy seed roll)
OMG.
THANKS BABE:)

20140104-080802.jpg
Since we had dinner around 5:15 pm ( I usually eat later) by 8:30, we were hungry for a snack. Lol.
This was us on Christmas night.
True LA style.

I am thankful.

With “The day of THANKS” behind us, I can hardly believe it’s time for christmas shopping, putting up lights….etc. GEEEEEZ! That came soooo fast. I feel like Thanksgiving just flew right past me. Although turkey leftovers are finally devoured, I cant help but continue to reflect and feel absolutely grateful for this special day. Here a few shots from Thanksgiving;)

My beautiful family. Missing my brother, but he was there in spirit. Well, more like skype, but, whateves!

20131202-174529.jpg

We not only celebrated Thanksgiving on this day, but also, Mom’s bday!

We started eating pretty damn early. Come to think of it….drinking too;) By 11 am, turkey was already done, and warm in the oven, mashed potatoes done, and we were making hard boiled eggs. A fuckin FAVE!!!!
20131202-174543.jpgIm sorry but…you cant have a party without baked brie! this is super easy and is a HIT in any kind of party!

All you do is….place whole block-a-brie in a small baking dish, top with fresh made fruit compote ( We made our own raspberry chia jam), crumble some almonds over top, and bake until cheese is oozing out the sides! WHAT?! I know, sooo bomb. That shiz was gone in 0-60 seconds. byeeeeee

20131202-174554.jpg

The ladies in my life…..I should’ve gotten in this shot. And this lil lady, Emma, is finally walking;)20131202-174645.jpg

This is my absolute favorite pic. My pops with Emma. Ok, so…..partly because she looks identical to me when I was her age. No joke. Mirror image. It was crazy to see them together. I felt like I was seeing myself, “daddy’s girl” 28 years ago. Wow.

The curls, the eyes, the chheks. Love this munchkin. I WANT ONEEEEEE!! haha
20131202-174702.jpg

My cousin SeanJay is staying with my folks while going to music school in burbank, so he celebrated with us, as well as his parents. BTW….amazing aunt & uncle;) Soooo happy to have had them visit from Las Vegas!

20131202-174732.jpg

Unfortunately I didn’t get many shots of the actual dinner;( maybe that’s because I was stuffing my face like a hippo. Did I mention that I’ve gained 10 POUNDS this month?!!!!!! holy jesus cristo!!!!!!!Yep, that’s what happens when

#1: you burn out

#2: you’re happy

lol, whatever.

Of course, I managed to snap a pic of my dessert. I ate the shit outta that SUGAR FREE CHEESECAKE.

No one could tell it was a “healthified” version of a cheesecake. Like seriously, people are obsessed with this recipe. I’m proud;) I usually serve as individual cheesecake rounds, but it wasn’t working out for me. To make time, I just cut up bite sized squares.

The other cut up cake you see in the center, that’s a traditional argentinian cake called PASTAFROLA. Made from shortbread and quince jelly, It’s like nothing you’ve everrrrrrr had! It’s delicious and flaky, and melts in your effin’ mouth!

Anyway…we had a fabulous time, and now…..I’m ready for:

CHRISTMAS!!!!!

20131202-174746.jpg

Wait. Before I suffocate you with photos of my Santa’s Village apartment decorations, I just wanted to share a couple of shots from this past Sunday. The long weekend ended wayyyy to soon!!!
20131202-174853.jpg

Marcin and I have been talking about trying this super cute cafe by his place. Literati Cafe has been on our list, and we finally made there for a super yummy brunch on Sunday morning. In the heart of West La, on Wilshire, (one of the busiest streets ever) you wouldn’t even guess it. Thanks to the beautiful and serene garden patio, you get such a great local, mellow vibe. I loved it. It was like a little gem. I highly recommend you try it out. I loved that they were dog friendly in the patio area, and nobody was “LA” stuffy, you know!?20131202-174936.jpg

We tend to share everything we have at restaurants, to be able to try a little of everything. It’s really funny actually…when we first met, he told me that he was an only child. First thing I thought was….( & said) “oh god, do you have problems sharing? Cuz I love sharing…especially food.” lol. He was like, “ummmm, no, I mean….no, I don’t think so….” hahahaha

The breakfast menu is ridiculous! I reallllllllly was eying the griddle cakes and french toast, but stuck with something on the healthier side. lol. I ordered the VEGGIE MELT form the lunch menu, and it was soooo good. I didn’t realize how much I liked sprouts in my sandwiches. Yummmmmm.

Marcin ordered the chicken pesto sandwich which was on ciabatta bread. It was good, but I think mine was better.Maybe the chicken breast was a little dry.  We also split a side of kale chips and shared a glass of chardonnay & pinot grigio. It was a beautiful sunny day, which means….day drinking is completely acceptable. Grrrreat.
20131202-174945.jpg

We walked back home and I believe took a bit of a nap. Hmmm, I never used to nap. Lately, I’m kind of  into it. After a waking up and realizing it was still amazing out. It was safe to say…we needed to seize the day. We leashed Willy and headed to Santa Monica for a nice beach walk. I completely obsessed with my new black Friday find, my NIKE lunar sprints. The are like…heaven on your feet. Like a god damn cloud!!!! They are available in quite a few colors, but I believe they are “youth”. So, I wear a size 7.5 in women’s, and in youth, I am a 6.20131202-174959.jpg

Willy is the happiest when he’s at the beach. Makes me a happy mommy. These two….sighhhhhhhhh<3

20131202-175019.jpg

Before heading to dinner at Warszawa, we caught a beautiful sunset. Finally used the “panoramic” setting on my Iphone. Have any of you ever caught the supposed “green light” that flashes when the sun is about to set???

We watched, stared, but….never happened. Still stunning skies all around. So lucky to be in LA. This is a December evening on the beach I mean… c’mon!
20131202-175046.jpg

This weekend’s awesome find, were these fab earrings from World Market. They’ve got some beautiful stuff. I can never leave this store without buying:

#1 a fabulous bottle of red

#2 a beautiful piece of jewelry

#3 some home decor item

I went in there to see if I could find some cute x-mas decorative pillows to finalize my “North Pole apartment” but, unfortunately didn’t find them. Instead, I found these gems!
20131202-221724.jpg

I’ve decided to finally get off my ass…and get back to a workout routine. This month has been crazy, and I really let myself go. I’m not saying that I’m freaking out and obsessing over it, but I’m ready to get back on it. I realize that I don’t like the way I feel when I’m carrying that bit of extra weight. There…I ate, I drank…A LOT. And now, I’m ready for moderation. I’m getting into my 30′s (January 31) and I realize that I just can’t keep fluctuating that much. The bingeing will catch up to me and it’s gotta stop. So that will be the start of my new year’s resolution I think.

Anyway, with that said…Here is my accountability. I am posting my workouts for the week. Start small. Reach your goals by writing them down. Do not beat yourself up. That starts a vicious cycle of guilt and anxiety. Instead, focus on your progress, and cut yourself some slack. No one is perfect. We are our own worst critics. Remember…to those who love us, to them…we are perfect just the way we are;) <3

If you are having a hard time kicking off your workouts or even weight loss???

A week of true vacation! MIAMI & NAPA.

In events, family, friends, life, PARTY TIME, Uncategorized, vacation On July 29, 2013 0 Comments

Alright babes! It’s been wayyyyyy too long! I’ve been gone now for just over a week, I feel like I’ve been on the NON-STOP CRAZY TRAIN! A girls gotta have her vacation time, right!? Well, I promise I haven’t neglected you! I’ve been enjoying, decompressing, and gathering pics to share with y’all!

FIRST UP….MIAMI!!!!

20130728-205628.jpg

I spent a fabulous 4 days in gorgeous Miami beach FL. with my favorite people. My family:) I left last Saturday to meet up with my folks, who had been staying at my godfathers new place at the Trump Towers. Yowwwwwzzzzzz, it is stunning. I mean……. Ridiculous. W were just a little bit north of south beach, which I actually that was better. You aren’t caught up in the crazy mess all the time.
The beaches here are like no other! Crystal blue, warm, clean, and full of fun little sandbars. Heaven, seriously. You all know…I am a total brown doggy, and lovvvveeeee the sun and ocean, so I was in fullllllll! We love miami, cuz it’s got such a Latin culture attached to it. Argentinians everywhere (my peeps) everyone is tan and wearing the hottest bikinis, the guys are super fit, the seafood is excellent, and it truly has a very traditional sense of family as well. Maybe it’s the Latin thing. Whatever it is, we freakin love it here. In fact, I’m currently trying to get my folks to retire here!!!;)

20130728-205711.jpg

A lot of people can’t stand the humidity…I say, BRING IT BITCH!
I can’t lay out without putting on my fave sun cream… Maui Babe!

20130728-205850.jpg
A plus to the heat… You don’t want to way anything hot, heavy or fattening. All I wanted, was fruit, salads, and fresh cold pressed juices. My first day there, I grabbed the rental, and headed to a friends juice bar in South Beach. Well. I’ve gone JUGO NUTTZO.

20130728-210943.jpg
Jugo Fresh is a local spot serves an amazing product. Amazing raw, fresh juices and foods. It’s reputation with the locals has skyrocketed and I couldn’t wait to get my hands on it!

20130728-211003.jpg

I got enough juices to last me 4 days. I wasn’t planning on juice cleansing while in Miami, but I knew my body just wanted this freshness, at least 2x a day. I love incorporating cold pressed juices in my everyday diet. Keeps me regular, hydrated, and full of nutrients while naturally detoxifying. That green juice above, was my FAVORITE! so delicious. if ever in Miami…pleaseeeeeee check it out! Jugo Fresh has something for everyone.

20130728-211023.jpg

I made sure to fit in a workout every morning while at the Trump. I gotta tell ya.. This gym was SICK! Best part was…I was practically the only person in there every morning. “Thank you… I love having the gym to myself, byeeeeee.”

I spent 1 hour to 1 1/2 hours there quite early doing a combo of cardio and GPP workouts. Super killer. I guess it does help having that beautiful beach view while working out. Lol. ;)

20130728-211130.jpg

Sweaty and squatting…. Not the cutest combo, but…..

20130728-211201.jpg

My cute ass parents. We took a day in the afternoon to shop and have drinks.
I bought a thong bathing suit. Don’t even think about judging. Lol. That is how we do it in South Beach. Mmmk. Maybe it’s a South American thing. Xo

20130728-211300.jpg
Margaritas and daiquiris.

20130728-211331.jpg

This is how I did my hair every day and night we went out. A JLo bun. That’s right. My hair is a frizzy ass mess in this weather, and frankly, it’s too damn hot to wear it down. I’m kinda feelin’ it. Thoughts? I used one of those spongy circular things to make the bun look bigger and like I had more hair than I actually do. Hehe. Y’all need one. Buy on that matches your hair color. They are the bomb!

20130728-211424.jpg

Here’s the Miami gang. This trip was FANTASTIC! it felt so great just to lay out, be with fam, and have no set plans. I’m rooting for this place, for my parents retirement. I know it’s not for another 10 years, but a girl can dream;) special thanks to my godparents;)

20130728-211507.jpg

NEXT UP…..
ST. HELENA!
( Napa valley)
3 days of this gorgeous place for my best friends wedding.

20130728-212722.jpg
This was the venue. Probably the greatest place ever! Farmstead restaurant at Long Meadow Ranch. This place was nothing short of perfect. They not only had their vineyard, but also a farmers market, olive oil tasting, an organic farm attached, a gorgeous farm to table restaurant, etc, etc. wow.

20130728-212814.jpg
The wedding was fairly small. About 80 guests made their way to St. Helena to celebrate the nuptials of Chris and Brooke. We all pretty much booked our stays through Air bnb. If you haven’t yet heard of air bnb, you need to get it together. It’s the best application for phone or iPad that helps you find rentals through private owners for a getaway. It’s amazing.
If you’ve never made your way to the wine country, and are planning on it….be aware! Hotels are really expensive! For $250 a night…you’re in a motel. yeah, I know. It was my first time there. I was shocked. Lol
Anyway, searching through the listings of private rentals, we came across this little gem:) a cute little cottage less than 1/2 a mile from the venue.

20130728-212849.jpg

Located at Milat vineyard. The view. Obsessed.

20130728-212925.jpg

We just barely made it to the rehearsal lunch on Friday afternoon after a super long day of travel. Thank god we made it, cuz that food was unbelievable. You could immediately tell, that Brooke & Chris’ main objective for this party was to feed people food and wine they would never forget!
Delicious!!!! All of it! I took a pic of the menu, but it’s on my other camera. (Ugh. Yeah, remember..the one that won’t let me download them on the computer!)
It just kept getting better. I practically ate myself dumb on the actual wedding day! I had 4 days of super fit and clean eating in Miami, then I come to Napa, and lose my shit! Lol. How could anyone pass up homemade Mac and cheese, cheddar biscuits, pulled pork sandwiches…rib eye… The list just keeps going… Ummmmm. Oh and, I only went for a quick hungover run on Saturday morning, other than that, no workouts on this trip. ( juice cleansing as I write this) lol. Did I meant ion…I blacked out Friday night. Rare form. Goooood lord.

20130728-212950.jpg
Not quite ready but I kept picking at them like they were. I can’t go to napa for the first time and not taste every grape I see;) it really was just stunning to see all of this agriculture around me.

20130728-213044.jpg
I snuck into the farm next door to check out what was harvesting, and I found my heaven!
Sky high sunflowers…

20130728-213123.jpg
Beautiful red Swiss chard, tomatoes, cucumbers, squash… You name it….

20130728-213146.jpg
Flowers for days….

20130728-213210.jpg

The big day was finally here. All gathered in Brooke’s house to get ready. Lots of hair..makeup….pictures…champagne…salads…(trying to be skinny before getting in our dresses) ;)
And crude shit talking. We turn into gross sailors when we all get together. Hilarious. Can any of you relate? I sear, it’s not that weird. Right?

20130728-213242.jpg
The bouquet. Gorgeous. Simple. Classy.

20130728-213322.jpg
Kelly and I

20130728-213444.jpg
Friends for life. I can’t wait to see the professional pics! I loved the idea of wearing the same color scheme but having different dresses. It really looked perfect, especially for the country vineyard look we were going for. I love that I just said “we” lol, as if I was the the one making the decisions. I mean, “they”.

20130728-213516.jpg

You will probably see a glass of wine in every damn picture I post. I mean.. It’s the wine country. This was my break from picture taking with the group. The guys were up, so I shimmied my bridesmaid ass over to the bar. Lol.

20130728-213644.jpg

Check out my hot date & dance partner;)
Best friends for 16 years. Wouldn’t have changed it for the world.

20130728-213720.jpg

The never ending supply of amazing Long Meadow Ranch wines.

20130728-213807.jpg
Oh..and open bar. I swear…I didn’t get too crazy here.. Just wine at dinner and maybe some drinks at the after party;) I was busy shaking my ass and dirty dancing all over that place. Lots of ” Brian, I’ll jump and you pick me up and twirl me, ok!?”

20130728-213831.jpg
Here are a few shots of the setting.

20130728-213856.jpg

The most loving and supportive couple. I love you guys and thank you for allowing me to be such a part of your beautiful day! Have fun in Hawaii!!!!! Xo

20130728-214122.jpg

What do y’all think? I would say over all, a pretty amazing week of friends, family, celebrating, and relaxing! Glad to be back home and back to my regimen. All in all, I only ate naughty for 2 days… I can make up for it;) remember… It won’t kill you to have a couple cheat meals. Enjoy it…Get over it, and recover.
Be on the lookout for my next post. I will sharing a couple of new and delicious recipes as well as a Spartan Race giveaway!!! 2 free entries as an athlete!! Woohoo! I did it last year and I felt like I could rule the world afterwards!!! Check out pics here!

Yummm, NEW RECIPE ALERT!! I like the sound of Sundays…..

In At home cooking, bedroom, birthday girl, clean food, decor galore, family, fitness, giveaway!, GPP FITNESS, Never perfect, new faves, popular recipes, Raw food, Sunday funday, Uncategorized, yoga, zumba On July 15, 2013 0 Comments

Happy Sunday lovelies!!!!

It is a mighty HOT one today! Up bright and early this A.M. And ready for a packed day:) first things first, COFFEE! Then, tidy up the house. The folks are stopping by today… After scarfing down 1/2 a quest bar and pounds of fresh cut watermelon, I headed to my favorite Sunday hotspot, the Farmer’s Market.

20130714-172504.jpg

Went a lil kookoo:) Always buying more than I actually need. I’m back to juicing, so I made sure to lots of greens and fruits.

20130714-172540.jpg

Best part about the Farmer’s, are the fresh flowers! Today, I picked up 4 bunches of beautiful dahlias. They’re literally in every room now…until, of course, I forget to change the water, and they all wilt. Lol. The worst, I am.

20130714-172625.jpg
But aren’t they stunning! The color is outrageous! They don’t let off any kind of smell, but whatever. I’ve got plenty of candles:)

20130714-172646.jpg
Oh, yes….there was a new lady in town selling her homemade RAW cashew cheese. I tried it, and of course had to buy it. It was delicious. I’ve always loved the raw lifestyle, and incorporate it into my day to day diet as much as possible. Although I don’t think I could ever be fully raw, like…everrrr, I like the idea of its principles sometimes:) part-time. Lol

Nary Dairy is produced by a husband/wife team out of the Chefs Center in Pasadena, offering the “The cream of the Non-Dairy crop” with plenty of delicious cashew cheese flavors to choose from. It’s seriously a nice alternative! Loving them!

20130714-172708.jpg

I’ve been throwing in a small beet in my morning juices, so I bought a bunch this morning to stock up. Anyway, you know the green leaves coming out of the beet? Well, I used to always cut that bit off, and toss it. Wtf. I guess I just thought it was good for nothin’. Poor beet greens, so misunderstood:(

WellllllI….I finally found a way to not let any of it go to waste! And guess what!? It’s the bommmmbbbbbb!

HOW TO THROW A FABULOUS BRIDAL SHOWER!

In At home cooking, decor galore, family, friends, PARTY TIME, Sunday funday, Uncategorized On June 1, 2013 3 Comments

Hello my lovely ladies!
Today’s post is near and dear to my heart. I love to throw a good party. Better yet, I GREAT bridal shower. Of course, this couldn’t have been done without my beautiful, fabulous friends! You see, we LOVE throwing parties, and yes….sometimes can be stressful, but in the end…totally worth it;)
On this gorgeous, sunny day, we celebrated the upcoming nuptials of our bestie Brooke with friends and family. We pulled it off with no stress, great attention to detail, and loads fun!

Admit it, we’ve all been to some super annoying showers, haven’t we? Today I’m here to share with you the FANTASTIC DO’s and DON’Ts guide to THROWING A GREAT BRIDAL SHOWER!

GATHER YOUR TEAM:

Typically….the braidsmaids;)

The most important part of beginning the planning process, is writing a list of what needs to be done (in great detail), and start delegating jobs to each one of you.

The key:

No one does more than the other. Equal spending, etc, will ensure everyone’s happiness. lol. NO STRESS= STOKED FRIENDS.

Have a pow wow, a girls night. Make a fun day or evening out of planning.

Remember babes, it’s supposed to be fun, and most importantly…NOT about you. It’s about that beautiful bride:)

I give you….MY BEST FREINDS:

The BEST of party planners.

20130529-171046.jpg

DO:

Pay attention to detail. This is what makes these kinds of events unforgettable. Perhaps, it be that you get the brides favorite flowers, or maybe you match the party to the wedding theme. Even something as simple as a personalized chalk heart on a fence, can make the world of a difference. Especially, in a photo, which she and yourself will have forever.

DO NOT:

Fill the damn place up with hideous silver lined balloons screaming “CONGRATULATIONS!” All over the place. Tacky, and completely NOT personalized.

20130529-171140.jpg

This is a party ya’ll, so please DO offer appetizers, snacky foods, etc.

A PLUS:

Beautiful fresh flower centerpieces. Hit the flower mart on a sunday for great deals. Arrange them yourself, you’ve got style, and you’re not lazy, so…Show us you’ve got the touch;)

PLEASE DO NOT:

Buy the pre-packaged, BRIGHT ass, Ralph’s version of “a BEAUTIFUL arrangement” for $14.99. Save that for Gram’s bday. k…..

ANOTHER THING……

This is a party ya’ll, so please DO offer appetizers, snacky foods, etc.

People don’t like standing around with nothing to do…

FEED THEM AND GIVE THEM DRINKS! DUH!

20130529-171204.jpg

A little EXTRA decor seals the deal.

We found this at PAPER SOURCE. Create whatever saying you want, all you gotta do is arrange the letters. EASY PEAZZZY.

If you can pull off an INDOOR/OUTDOOR party, GO FOR IT. Not necessary, but a nice alternative.

20130529-171221.jpg

Maybe MOST importantly, next to the food of course….

THE BOOZE.

DO:

Offer a signature drink for the special event.

We are in LA, in June….it’s warm out….Give us some SANGRIA, CHAMPAGNE, and WHITE WINE SPRITZERS.

DO NOT:

Get peeps wasted on vodka tonics. Its not a club, or your 21st birthday. Mom and G-ma gotta drive home.

Oh & not cute.

**********IT’S ALL ABOUT PRESENTATION…..CHECK OUT THE LITTLE BAR SETUP***********

20130529-171243.jpg

This is NOT a free for all people… The truth is, the more organized you are, the more people can enjoy themselves & the less feaked out you are by all the stuff you gotta do at once.

DO:

Create a menu. A SIMPLE ONE.

We got this awesome chalkboard at the local Marshall’s for $12.99. Adds such a great touch, and allows for for people to know that there is food coming. This way…they don’t scarf down all the chips thinking that might be the only thing their gettin’. Could you imagine…”Oh,, I’m sorry, were you hungry? We were just thinking chips and salsa were enough” ummmmmmm

20130529-171319.jpg

DO NOT:

RUN OUT OF FOOD!!!! Better to have extra for yourself later than have the embarrassment of exposing your LACK OF preparedness.

20130529-171336.jpg

Make sure your menu is balanced in nutrition. No one, I mean NO ONE, wants to feel like a beached whale at a party. In other words, keep it classy and proportioned, if you know what I mean. This isn’t your cheat meal. OK.

20130529-171840.jpg

Having dessert options makes people happy. We like to snack. On several things, that is;)

* Not everyone likes the same thing.

DO:

Create a SWEET atmosphere for your Dessert table. SET THE SCENE. If it looks good, people want to eat it.

Try individual portions. Much cuter, and easier to to munch on as you’re walking around mingling.

On our dessert table:

Made by yours truly.

(because we’re all on LOW CARB)

Sugar Free Cheesecake Rounds.

Paleo Sugar Free Chocolate Covered Strawberries.

20130529-171411.jpg

DO NOT:

Force feed people messy chunks of sugary, marzipan cake. They will enjoy dessert when they want to enjoy it. Hense…dessert table. Get it, when you feel like it. Again, it’s about creating fluidity in the party. Make life easy for your guests.

20130529-171429.jpg

No one wants to leave a party empty handed.

If you can pull off a simple, personalized, and affordable party favor, DO IT!!!!!!

Nothing says, “Thank you for coming” more than a party favor. It shows GREAT attention to detail, and can really spruce up your dessert table. In our case, Alicia had a genius idea of cute little mason jars, filled with delicious caramels in which she attached a thoughtful saying on each one of them. Adorable, and simple. THE KEY.

DO NOT:

Put the faces of the bride and groom on your party favors. Yes, we love them, But we don’t want that shit. If I had a quarter for every engraved or screenprinted wedding or bridal shower favor I recieved, I’d be a rich bitch. Give us something we can eat or actually use, otherwise, you know we’ll just hoard it, and never see it again.

20130529-171457.jpg

Ok, I KNOW I am NOT the only one who thinks this so, here I go….

A game or two is fun…….

3 or more…..too much.

We are not trying to spend an hour & 1/2 playing games ya’ll!

20130529-171519.jpg

This is the best game….and the bride actually gains something from it!

It’s simple…

Everyone brings with them a pair of panties that shows your personality. She, then has to match the undies to the friend. If she misses…she drinks. (or stuff a marshmallow in her mouth, each time she misses. lol) Either way…in the end…she comes up on loads of panties. STOKED.

20130529-171539.jpg

Allow for things to happen organically. If you put games near the gifts, that’s where you go next. Hand the Bride-to -be her champagne, and let the unwrapping begin.

20130529-171603.jpg

UNNECESSARY:

Making the bride read out every single card she receives, and forcing her to pose with her new swiffer wetjet and new set of china. Snag a few good shots, and call it a day. Remember, all eyes are on her, it can be a bit uncomfortable. lol.

20130529-171625.jpg

This next portion was the highlight!

DO:

Pull off an impromptu backyard photoshoot with friends and bridesmaids. I don’t mean…hire someone, get lighting, make a big deal, I mean this…

Gather the flowers from the centerpieces…get in the sun…and get your mom on a chair to shoot the pic. DUH! ;)

pssst…you can photoshop later.

20130529-171706.jpg

Just when you think you all couldn’t look cheesier…THAT’S when you get it right.

20130529-171723.jpg

When else would we get these fun shots??…On the wedding day.. I think not.

20130529-171738.jpg

HAVE WE COVERED EVERYTHING?

Great….NOW, It’s time to have fun and enjoy your party:)

20130529-171755.jpg

20130529-171813.jpg

20130529-171938.jpg

20130529-172006.jpg

This post is dedicated to the bride, Brooke Barnett & to my AMAZING girlfriends.

CONGRATULATIONS DARLING.

Wicked carrot zucchini protein cake….M CAFE famous kale salad with spicy peanut dressing, and sooo much more;)

In At home cooking, bbq, Breakfast, family, get the look, life, popular recipes, protein, Reviews, Sunday funday, sweets, Uncategorized, zumba On March 25, 2013 4 Comments

Better late that never, eh!? Hope everyone enjoyed a beautiful, sunny in LA, weekend!;) I certainly did. If you don’t know me by now, my “after weekend” posts usually include a sunday fam BBQ day, and what kind of person would I be, of I didn’t post every one of those special Sunday’s pics. To most of you, they look the same as every past Sunday’s, but to me, it’s about catching up, enjoying my folks, their backyard, the dogs running around like psychos, mom and I spending too much money bargain shopping, trying to convince dad to build me something ” rustic, yet contemporary” ( I need a new desk) LOL, oh and the best part…. Stuffing my face with red meat, chorizo, and blood sausage. It’s my once a week VICE.

Here are some highlights;)
New favorite POWER protein Breakfast:
1/2 cup egg whites
1/2 mashed ripe banana
A few drops vanilla extract
1 tbsp raw nut butter
1 tsp flax meal or flax seeds
1 tsp unsweetened shredded coconut.
I know sweet eggs!?

Trust me…..

20130324-203046.jpg

SNACKS:

Best damn kale chips around y’all. Brad’s RAW Foods offers kale chips that are packed with the best flavor. I’ve tried loads of different brands and these by far are the crunchiest, and healthiest:)
Find them at whole foods, or online here.
20130326-174413.jpg

Btw, sorry I’ve been neglecting fitness pics, but…thing is, I’ve been so focused on my ZUMBA training, that I haven’t really had the time to do any other kind of workout lately. I get certified this week!!! ahhhhhh So I thought I’d let you know….I’ve been doing ZUMBA 4 days a wk. oh, and in between, practicing at home or with my headphones at work in while dancing like a freak in the staff room. Yes, I am the only one hearing the music, so everyone’s like WTF is she doing. Lol.

Anyway, now that I’ve confessed the fact that I haven’t been at the actual GYM, we can move forward with this post of mostly food;) hehe.

Sunday BBQ prep. Salad with cilantro, green onions, tomatoes, lemon, red wine vinegar, olive oil, and oregano.
About to sautée some brussel sprouts.
And cook up some sweet potato as mom and I’s carb of choice.
20130324-203119.jpg

Dad is always in charge of the BBQ. Today, we’ve got steaks, blood sausage, and Argentinian style chorizo. Sooooo bomb!
20130324-203203.jpg

Mom likes to serve ciabatta bread in 3′s. As if anyone but my dad is gonna eat any. No thanks. Once I ” break the seal” ( the, I’m not having any bread, seal) it’s all over. Carb-o-binge like its goin outta style. Not cute, and “Ain’t nobody got time for dat!”
20130324-203316.jpg

Don’t be jelz…..
Dreaming of it now…
I ate all of it yes.
We also shared a really great bottle wine. Then, we decided to go shopping. This is probably how I managed to spend way too much money “bargain shopping.” Two cart’s full of stuff, does kinda cancel out the fact that you’re getting a good price. NOTE: avoid shopping and drinking.

20130324-203353.jpg
I won’t bore you with what I bought, or what I spent;) lol, but…I will share my dessert with you!
Mom is a total saint, and made this amazing low carb, full of protein
CARROT ZUCHINNI PROTEIN CAKE that I recently shared on my Facebook page. It’s a recipe created by one of my favorite protein bakers! My homegirl over at Proteinpow.com I hadn’t had a chance to make it yet, so mom surprised me:)

20130324-203419.jpg

I must say….. It is perfection. not too sweet, not at all “veggie” tasting, and it’s virtually GUILT-FREE. Cake & coffee, precisely what I needed after spending too much dough. I swear, give me cake, and I don’t give a shit about anything else. Hahaha.

20130326-141835.jpg

Favorite fruit of the moment:
PINEAPPLE. Seriously addicting . Although delicious, watch out…it’s full of sugar. Indulge in small portions;)
20130324-203556.jpg

Alright, here comes your

RECIPE ALERT!!!
Have you ever gone to M Cafe???
Well, if you haven’t had the pleasure yet, I highly recommend it. Granted, there are some things, I’m not such a big fan of, but there is one dish in particular that I’ve completely fallen head over heels in love with. M cafe caters to a healthy macrobiotic diet/lifestyle. Read more about macrobiotic here. I searched high and low to bring you the best version of M cafe’s KALE SALAD WITH SPICY PEANUT DRESSING.
his is huge news….. You’re gonna freak out, and yes, you will thank me. Kale can sometimes get a bit boring, so this recipe really spruces up your relationship with it.
Nothing boring about this bad boy.
20130324-204025.jpg

The original recipe calls for regular ol’ natural peanut butter, but I thought I’d switch it out for a less fattening option….my trusted PB2 will do just perfect. ( scroll to the right, click on specialty foods, and scroll through the pages, you will find pb2 on my amazon faves!)
20130324-204059.jpg
I’ve attached a print- friendly recipe for you to grab. I made this so quick, oh, and I ate it just as quickly;) it’s super easy!
1. Blanch the kale
2. Sautée shallots, onion, garlic
3. Make your spicy peanut dressing.
4. Combine, garnish, and serve;)
20130324-204144.jpg

“M Cafe” Kale Salad with Spicy Peanut Dressing

Obsessing over M CAFE’s Kale salad…..naturally….I HAD to make it! Delicious, with a kick, and outrageously healthy;)
Ingredients
  • 1 large bunch kale (about 3-4 cups)
  • ¼ red onion, sliced very thin
  • 1 shallot
  • ½ tsp high heat oil. (I used safflower oil)
  • Spicy Peanut Dressing
  • ½ cup PB2 (1/2 cup when mixed with water) Or natural peanut butter, but will raise the fat content
  • 1 Tbsp Nature’s Hollow honey
 (sugar free)
  • 2 Tbsp low sodium soy sauce
  • 2 Tbsp brown rice vinegar
  • 1 tsp. garlic, minced
  • ½ tsp. ginger, minced
  • ¼ tsp. cayenne pepper
  • ⅛ tsp. salt
  • 1 ½ oz hot water

Instructions
  1. 1. Remove the kale from the stems.
Add a pinch of Salt to a pot of boiling water, then blanch the Kale for 3 min.
Remove the Kale from the boiling water and shock it in a container of ice water.
Finally, squeeze the excess water out of the cooled Kale.
  2. Sautee onions and shallots with a bit of salt and pepper and ½ tsp oil until softened. Set aside.
  3. Spicy Peanut Dressing: Place all dressing ingredients into a blender. Blend until mixture turns into a smooth consistency.
  4. Drizzle the dressing on top of the Kale and onions, and mix the kale and dressing together until kale is evenly coated. Garnish chopped peanuts.
  5. *Makes enough to dress 2 large bunches of kale. Stores well refrigerated for up to 6 weeks.

Notes
Note: I used PB2 to cut down on the fat, but you can certainly use all natural peanut butter.

PRODUCT FIND OF THE WEEK

Kyodan NO SLIP headband! New obsession, especially now that I’ve got these damn bangs I got to get outta my face! Ugh. No more having to bobby pin them back. This headband doesn’t budge through my whole 1 hour ZUMBA session, and trust me, I whip my hair back n’ forth like it’s goin’ outta style!

Ok, we’ll go into that in a bit… First, I wanna share I little morning joy with y’all… Lately, I’ve been loving eating protein cake in the morning, total gymrat food. You know how I love my sweets, but can’t consume real chocolate cake on a regular for breakfast ( I’d be a house), so this does the job for me;)

CHOCOLATE LAVA PROTEIN CAKE
(Adapted from @tastyhealth)

2 scoop chocolate About Time protein

1 tbsp cocoa

2 egg white 1 tsp baking powder

4 tsp coconut flour

2 tbsp greek yogurt

1 1/2 tbsp stevia (granulated)

6 tbsp  unsweetened vanilla almond milk

20130216-104250.jpg

These are her exact DIRECTIONS:

Mix everything and put in a mug/bowl. Cover with plastic wrap and put in the microwave for 45 sec up to 1.5 min depending on how runny you want it. Don’t overcook though! You might have to stop after 45 sec and then go in 10 sec intervals to prevent it from overflowing

20130217-184531.jpg

This was awesome! This microwave method cooks thing very fast, so please be mindful of over cooking, as it can become very dry. It took me a couple tries to perfect it.:)

20130216-104317.jpg

I whipped up some vanilla topping with:

2 tbsp 0% Greek yogurt
2 tbsp unsweetened vanilla almond milk. ( I use this ishhhh for everything)
Couple drops vanilla extract
4 drops stevia
And sprinkled with unsweetened cacao powder.

Listen, is honestly EASY.

20130216-104353.jpg

My parents were coming over at 10:30 am to come help with the bedroom, so I had to dash to gym ASAP.
I took my liquid L CARNITINE
Filled my blender bottle with three scoops of MRM bacc+ g and filled with water.
Sunday SELFIE;)
LA FITNESS… Here I come.

20130217-102955.jpg

Yeayyyyyy! Ok so the time has come! Mom and dad came to the rescue! Love that my folks are close by, and that dad loves “projects”!
So, my little full size bed will be outta here and donated to a great friend who’s moving down the street. Glad it’s going to a good home:) aweeeeeeee! I’ve had this frame since like 19 years old. Omg. Byeeeeeeee lil baby! It’s been a good 11 years with ya. Time to upgrade….

Gloomy Gorgeous Sunday

In family, local shopping, Sunday funday, Uncategorized On January 7, 2013 3 Comments

My favorite day of the week….SUNDAY.
Last night was my first experience at Supercross. It was nothing like I have ever experienced. It actually was super cool, and although I was in and out of passing out, (exhausted from a full day of clients) but non the less, very exciting, different evening:)

My body decided to sleep in till 7 am this morning. I know, weird. I had to head over to the parental unit’s house today to pick up willy, and of course to hang with the folks & BBQ:) not too much planned for today, precisely why I love Sundays…it’s a free for all. I started off with my ritual cup of espresso and almond milk, so creative…lol.

As I looked in my fridge looking for what I should stuff in my Vitamix, I realized I had absolutely nothing! No kale, no chard, No NOthin.
So even though the forecast called for rain, I took my cozy lil ass on to the farmers market.
Turned out to be a gorgeous morning, with a few rays is sunshine.

20130106-204836.jpg

Hiiiiiiiiii, yes, I stocked up. Homegurrrrl went nuts.
I never go there with a list, obviously. Too many goods to limit myself, so I watch myself by only bringing 2 recyclable bags with me.

I came home with some beautiful fruits and veggies.
- rainbow chard
- kale
- cauliflower
- broccoli
- Fuji apples
- persimmons( last batch of the season)
- onions
- carrots
- green onions
- cilantro
- ginger
- sweet potato
- Japanese cabbage
- crimson grapes

All organic, and at very great prices.

20130106-202842.jpg

Check out these sweet carrots. These would be perfect as a side dish. They are stunning in flyover and color.

20130106-202921.jpg

Really, the main reason why I rushed to the farmer’s so early, was because I wanted to make a green protein smoothie. So as soon as I got home and organized…. I made my tummy happy.

20130106-202947.jpg

I did a little something different this time.

I added pinches of:
Tumeric: a natural anti inflammatory
Cayenne: speeds up metabolism, lowers blood pressure, and helps circulation.
Ginger: aids in gastrointestinal issues
A small persimmon

A bit funny, but really good.

20130106-203118.jpg

While shopping around, I came across this great little antique/vintage shop that carried soooooo many amazing things! I wanted to go home with everything!
I dropped my grocery bags and practically ran toward these fab items.

20130106-203203.jpg

Vintage bottle holder with glass bottles…had to buy.
And a great dish with silverware, which I thought would be great for some food shots!
Ughhhhhhh, aren’t they precious!?
I just had to share. Sometimes, when you’re least looking, huh? ;)

20130106-203227.jpg

Today, was a very special day…. I finally cleaned, and organized my fridge. I would of shown you a before pic, but it was just too embarrassing. I mean, it’s not like it was a hoarder pig fridge or anything, it just was a mess. Like a MESS.
so she she is, all pretty, and clean.

20130106-220656.jpg
It’s amazing how much more you can fit in there, once you throw out all the weird, random shit you don’t need.
I didn’t need 5 different kinds of mustard. Really.

20130106-220719.jpg

I promise, it’ll help you and encourage you to eat better and cleaner:)
It was definitely detoxifying…

20130106-220800.jpg

After my Sunday shopping, I headed to sunday ZUMBA and got my dance on:) I had naughty foods last night so I figured, he’ll, lets burn some of that shit off. After class, sweaty n all, I headed over to the folks house, and got ready for a meat-eaters lunch…

Argentinian ribs, chorizo, and salad with chimichurri. The bomb.com.

20130106-203339.jpg

20130106-203422.jpg

20130106-203453.jpg

20130106-203529.jpg

The rents. The cutest. We love our Sunday bbq’s. Dad’s a master on the grill btw.

20130106-203601.jpg

I get so hungry after I workout. Protein galore.

20130106-203631.jpg

Excuse my inner carnivore.

20130106-203705.jpg

After lunch, mom and I ran errands. Of course hit up our fave, Tj Maxx ;)
Yes, we are maxinistas;)
Hung out at home and laid low.
We were gonna go see Les Miserables, but, when I saw it was almost 3 hrs long…. I changed my mind. I probably would’ve passed out in the theater. That’s just too long to be sitting in there, I’m sorry.

Dinner was some local Thai food. I literally haven’t eaten Thai since I was actually in Thailand, which was in April. Ridiculous. My craving was gnarly, so I dragged mom, who had never tried Thai food, to a great little spot in town. It was delicious.

Now, in a food coma, it’s time for my bed. Up early mañana for a hike with my girl, Jules.
7:30 a.m to be precise.
#getafterit.
Goodnight friends…..P

Home For the Holidays Weekend re-cap!

In Christmas, family, presents, Uncategorized, WOD On December 25, 2012 0 Comments

MERRY MERRY MERRY Christmas y’all! It’s soooo nice to have 3 days off in a row you have no idea! Last year, we only had Christmas Day off, and I can’t even begin to describe what a bummer that was. New Years we will ask have a 3 day weekend because it lands on a tues! YEAYYYYYY! This weekend couldn’t come sooner. I was ready to see my brother, be with my family, cook, shop, all of it. I absolutely love Christmas! We had a lil scare this morning when my bro called from Canada, saying his flight had been cancelled, and he wouldn’t be arriving till Sunday night instead of morning. Ugh. Whatever, positive thoughts, and he got here safe and sound, and we enjoyed a few hours of wine, and dinner.

The fireplace is lit, the Christmas music is flowing, the presents are wrapped, and I’m enjoying a mimosa as I write this;)

You see, I can have a mimosa, since I worked my ass of at the gym this morning! I got there as soon as they opened, so I could get it outta the way before everyone woke up to start making breakfast.
I did extra cardio because I had lots I’d dessert last night:)
1 hour on the elliptical :
Alternating 3 min @ resistance 10/ incline 5
2 min @ resistance 5/ incline 9
I burned 6 hundred something calories. Stoked.
Then did, 3 sets of 10 pull ups with 80 lb assistance
3 sets 10 dips
3 sets 10 push-ups
25 mountain climbers
1 min plank
20 vertical leg lifts
25 crunches

I was sooooo ready to jump in the shower.
Mom made a great breakfast of eggs, chicken sausage, and pastries from the Argentinian market.

The croissants, I just can’t resist, so yes I had one;)

Brother bear and his girlfriend Sarah:) love them. Sooooo happy that we are all together. Breakfast was delicious. And a special thanks to mom, for workin’ it OUT in the kitchen the last few days! This pic was taken when they arrived… Obviously not having red wine for breakfast…..we’re not that cray.

20121224-140619.jpg

After breakfast, mom and I stopped at the store to grab wine, champagne, OJ , and cheeses, cured meats, nuts, and figs for our cheese platter. We had breakfast pretty late, so the cheese platter in the late afternoon will be my lunch.

Wilbur hanging out with his slightly buzzed mommy. Lol. I don’t generally drink champagne, but I was feelin them after a couple. ;) he looks a bit annoyed.

I wish I had pics of our amazing dinner, but I got so into just enjoying it, and completely forgot to snap some shots. My bro and his GF follow a strict vegetarian diet so we made homemade canelone, stuffed with ricotta and cheese, red a sauce, and homemade non dairy Alfredo. We also made a recipe of stuffed yams that Sarah had found on thekitchn.com. We baked the yams in the oven for about 40 mins. Made a stuffing of white beans and kale. Topped with shaved Parmesan and red pepper flakes. WOW. For the meat eaters, mom made a side of bolognese sauce, that was divine.
Oh of course I managed to snap a shot of the desserts. After dinner, we love to enjoy a tea or coffee with an array of pastries and chocolates. YES PLEASE.

20121225-084703.jpg
So, in the Bedo house, our tradition is to stay up till mid it and open presents after dessert, hence, the coffee to stay awake.
We sit in a semi circle, and watch each other open 1 gift at a time. Of course, the annoying camera lady taking pics of every reaction and gift that is opened. Lol, and no joke, this process takes at least 1hour &1/2. SOOOO MUCH FUN. I seriously got everything I wanted. Santa (ma & pa) must of felt I was a good girl this year;)

20121225-085622.jpg
A few of my awesome gifts. I was dying to get this watch. The polar USA ft60, the BOMB performance and training watch out there! My no slip yoga gloves,

20121225-091505.jpg
And, my new book, that I’m seriously obsessed with! Thank you Nick and Sarah:)
Sill learning and really enjoying it.

What a fun night! By 2 a.m. I was practically cross eyed. Sooo tired. I actually passed out on the couch. Yes with all my clothes on. I didn’t care one bit, all I knew was that I had no work in the morning and could yet again sleep in like a lazy lady. I decided Christmas Day I would have a “day off” from the gym. Well, it was closed anyway;) Christmas morning started off slow and relaxed. We all woke up pretty late. It was a beautiful sunny but crisp day out. Mom was making a big breakfast of eggs, potatoes, sausage, and Belgian waffles. Umm, yes, ridiculous. I made my yummy protein muffins, ( trying to be healthy this a.m) but I made them more of pancake form this time. I really just didn’t want anything to heavy because we had been eating till late last night. The curse of being Latin;) Lots of late night eating. Ugh.

20121226-141119.jpg

The mimosas came out as soon as my friend Natalie came over. She joined us for breakfast and hung out for a few hours.

20121226-141233.jpg
Nat lives in San Fran, so I barely ever get to see her, couldn’t have been more stoked when she came by.

20121226-141319.jpg
We all hung out in the backyard with a yummy fire going and mimosas flowing. Catching up, laughing, and shit talkin. Nothing more than just being in the moment.

20121226-141343.jpg
Annnnndd…..then, we began our fireside photoshoot. I thought it may have bee too much to show off allllllll of them, so just posting a few;)

Ahhhhhhh, I love vacation.. My uncle stopped by with the fam, and brought his FAMOUS homemade Argentinian alfahores de maizena. My god, they are stupid good.

Christmas night was a fabulous dinner and party filled with fun, laughter, wine, and friends. The year definitely ended with a bang! I’ve gotta say though, I couldn’t be more ready for 2013. Things are looking good and I am so happy and proud of the successes of this year. As January comes around the corner… I’ve made sure to get my vacation plans written out, the workouts on point, and continue to strive for a better and healthier life. Although , I know, nobody is perfect, and I will struggle like most at times, but the intention is there. So this coming year…lets help each other reach our goals and encourage each other to stay active, yeah!?

What are your New Years resolutions?

WeDneSdaY B-day Shoutout

Happy wednesday folks!

Officially 4 days till the Spartan Race. I’m not in the salon till 10.00 a.m. so, I woke up at 6, drove straight to gym.I recieved this email from from my online Spartan trainer, and  this workout is gonna kick my ass! I won’t be doing my WOD on thurs (tomorrow) because I’ve got Zumba class. I just honestly don’t want to risk being any kind of sore or tight anywhere on my body before sunday. So no heavy lifting. Last time a trained for a race, I ran 6 miles the day before and somehow strained my achilles. So pissed. Dumb status. Not doing that this time. I really think it’s important to give your body a rest and allow your muscles time to recover. So this morning will be the last of the WOD. :) What an EXPERIENCE!

I swear after sunday I’m only doing zumba and yoga for a whole week. That’ll be nice. Then back to adding in the strength training.

So….Ideally, for a hardcore session, 5 circuit sets should be done with the exercises back-to -back and minimal rest. If you like structure, a breakdown on a good use of rest is supplied at the end of the workout. Each set should be at least 12 reps of continuous motion. Rest in between exercises rather than between reps.

Ok, Lets go….

Before going for this circuit, make sure you have a bench press and some room close by with dumbbells ready. On average three to five revolutions should take no more than forty minutes, but internally strive for the best time possible. This workout is an obstacle course for the body itself. Watch your form people!

I was at the gym a total of 1 hour & 15 min. Notice all of the bending down I was doing…well…GUESS WHAT HAPPENED.

I wanted to die!!! Felt absolutely no drift! Apparently before throwing them in the hamper last week, I left them sweaty on the floor for a couple hours, and I don’t know if any of you girls out there who have dogs, have ever experienced this, BUT….yeah…Willy completely ate an EFFING hole in the crotch!!! ahhhhhhhhI never noticed, washed them, picked them up this morning out of the drawer, no clue, and did my whole workout with the freakin hole. It wasn’t till I was stretching, with my ass facing the mirror that I noticed. I ran out of there so damn fast. The guy at the front desk was like “Bye, thank you” I just kept my headphones in and RAN! I posted this on my instagram as soon as I got in the car.

I needed CARBS! (good carbs of course)

BANANA OAT MUFFINS

These were just what I needed! This recipe is so easy, It took like 20 min all together. They were a treat. They are under the  breakfast recipes!I enjoyed one of these along with my coffee w/ almond milk, got ready for work and headed out.

I wanted to take today’s post as a chance to wish my amazing brother a HAPPY BIRTHDAY.

Doesn’t he look like Clark Kent? (superman)

This was taken at my parents house the last time he came to visit.

I have no idea what we are doing in this pic but I thought it was cute.

Having a ball at Mango’s in Miami. We went there on a family trip a couple years ago, and I actually got him up to dance.

Btw…Holy TAN browndoggie face.

Happy special day LIL bro! xx

After work, I headed to Hollywood to meet up with a couple of girlfriends. We had planned for me to come and cut their hair, have a laugh, and enjoy a glass of wine. Laura (Gina Starr) a genius Dj, is always open for a super cool look. Her hair is like a violet, silver kind of color, which a co-worker of mine did. Looks amazing.I’ll post picks soon! Love cutting her hair. She always give me complete freedom to try new things. Gen, my other friend, client, and an amazing jewelry designer, also got a new super cool look. We cut her hair into a cute little A-line layered bob. She loved it. After we finished cutting, we finished our wine and I was ready to head home for some dinner. It was a long day. She surprised me with a little gift from her collection. Aren’t they fabulous? Her Etsy shop will be up soon, so be on the lookout! I’ll be supporting on my blog for sure. Her stuff is unique and feminine. Always with a bit of lace. A little vintage inspired too.

As soon as I got home, I took willy out, and headed inside for some yummy leftovers of almond crusted tilapia, spanish green beans, some roasted kabocha squash, and some sauteed spinach and zuchinni in garlic. It looks like my usual snacky plate. Lots of different flavors to get a perfect bite.

After dinner, I felt relaxed, put my PJ’son, and poured myself a glass of this wine. It was really good. Although I fell asleep working on the blog. On the couch of course, so I didn’t end up finishing it. Oh well, didn’t need the extra cals anyway…

BEDTIME. XX

QUESTION OF THE DAY:

Are you one of those people who has to eat everything on their plate separately? Where nothing can touch each other? Fascinating.

xo babes

FCAT OF THE DAY:

It’s freakin Chritmas in 3 1/2 weeks!

You know what that means…..

SNOWBOARD SEASON!

HAPPY THANKSGIVING!

Hi everyone!!! Happy Thanksgiving to all! Welcome to my favorite holiday and NO WORKING OUT today. I’m making up for it by working out tomorrow. Friday would usually be my day off. Switch. I don’t think I can say that we have a specific tradition in the Bedo household. Every year is different,  but It’s always a great time! The only thing that is pretty consistent is that  I end up being so stuffed every year, I swear I end up like a beached whale. No joke. This year, I broke the cycle. I definitely ate more than I would on a normal day, but managed to keep the binging under control. Thank goodness. It may have something to do with the fact that this year the party was pretty small, and we didn’t over do it with the amount of food and side dishes.

Let me re-cap you of what last year was like:

  • Party of 30 people
  • Prepped for 3 days
  • I did all the cooking , except desserts.(yes, for real. I wanted to say that I had hosted a huge thanksgiving feast once in my life)
  • A wet brined turkey the size of my body
  • A honey ham
  • A rotisserie chicken
  • Sausage/ sage stuffing
  • Brussel sprouts with pancetta
  • Pear, walnut, blue cheese butter lettuce salad
  • Fresh cranberry sauce
  • Cornbread muffins
  • Gravy
  • Bourbon sweet potatoes
  • Garlic mashed potatoes

I mean…..It was gnarly. I must admit, well worth it though> It turned out AMAZING!

This year, we kept it mellow and changed up the menu. It was just Mom, Dad and I and My uncle and his wife and their 4 month old baby girl, Emma. (freakin adorable). We were able to catch my brother on skype. He was crunching away in his lab. Not sure if I mentioned before, but, my brother is a genious, a neuroscientist, no big deal. I got sad seeing that he wasn’t celebrating and eating with all his friends, but  he so kindly reminded me that “uh Paula, I live in Canada, I’ts not thanksgiving here fool” LOL. Such a dumb ass.

Anyway, So, early this a.m. (6:00) I drove to the parentals house.  Usually Mom’s up ready to go with coffee made, but I guess she decided to sleep in, cuz when I walked in..Crickets. zzzzz

Mom had one of the protein muffins in the fridge so I muched on that and made some coffee.

I decided to get my crusts  started, since Miss. Martha Stewart (in the thanksgiving issue) mentioned that I would have to do several rounds of refrigeration. Mom was gonna need the oven round 11:00 am. So , I began to make a mess in the kitchen as usual. I’m not one of those,  clean as you go type. I wish I was.

The pie I chose out of the mag was the sour cream apple crumble pie, although I changed a few things.

  • I made the crust out of whole wheat flour instead of all-purpose
  • I used light sour cream
  • I did less of the strussel topping.

All in efforts to “healthify” my Thanksgiving.

Golden delicious apples

I hate making pie crusts, they are soooo tempermental.

Got a great shot of willy being a cutie, hangin out in the sun, on watch of course.

Mom got up, got beautiful, (she wouldn’t let me photograph her in her pj’s) and got stated on her beef roast stuffed with pancetta.  The bomb. Btw, It’s this beauty’s BIRTHDAY today, doesn’t she look 26?? Happy birthday mami!!

It was such a beautiful day out, that we decided to set the table in the backyard. Who want’s to be indoors on a day like this anyway?! I sat and read the rest of the new Living magazine and sipped on some kombucha. I love the gingerade flavor. I knew I would need some probiotics after this meal!

Look who arrived!!!!  Uncle Manuel, Ingrid & Emma, this lil princess. She’s 4 months old.ahhhh, those cheeks. This day was so special, mostly because it was my first time meeting this sweet pea.

Happy girls!

After I annoyingly squeezed her to death for an hour, we headed outside for some appetizer.

These are Mom’s homemade empanadas.  Fried beef ones on the left, and baked spinach ones on the right. An Argentinian staple, and probably one of my all time to die for foods. I grew up on these. I could have easily taken down both these platters like I had never seen food before, but, I opted to just enjoy one of each and let the rest of the guests enjoy. My uncle is a wino, so he brought over a fabulous cabernet sauvignon from Mendoza, Arg.

This year our Thanksgiving had an Italian/Argentinian flare.

Caprese salad.

Stuffed beef roast

Real sweet potatoes (not yams)

And….some random cranberry sauce that Mom decided to whip up. It didn’t really end up pairing with anything but whatever. Gotta have something traditional.

We had the perfect amount of food. Nothing went wasted, and everything was delicious.

My pie was a success. I was a bit nervous because of the changes I had made to the recipe but thank goodness it all was good in the end. pretty huh?

The cake below was brought to work for me the day before by my fabulous baker friend, Jules Peres of Immaculate Confections. This is her famous vanilla bean rum cake. Ridiculous.

I made some last minute fresh vanilla whipped cream as mom made the teas and coffees.

Once that pie went down, it was pretty much food coma from there out. I enjoyed my coffee in front of this gorgeous fire. The Perfect way to end this perfect  Thanksgiving. I am thankful for my health, my family and friends, and my Wilbur<3

Question of the day:

Did you try any new recipes this year?

sunday FAM funday

My Favorite day of the week! I get going a little later on this day, and this is percisely why I love it. I sleep in, well, 6:00 a.m instead of 5:30 a.m….which feels like 2 extra hours of bliss.I think that fact that within that 30 minutes it goes from dark to light outside, makes a huge difference.  Sundays usually consist of  getting up and driving to the folks house from an early morning breakfast with Mom and Dad. I’ve got Mom on my clean eating plan and so far she’s lost 12 lbs. She’s been really great about the new lifestyle, although getting her on the workout bandwagon has been taking a little more time….mmmm-hhmmm.  She’ll get it though;)

She’s learned about substitutions for flours and sugars. Also, taking the time to prepare bakes goods for the week in case she wants a “carb” fix. Sunday mornings, that’s all that sounds good. Coffee & pastries. (our style of course) Check out some of these low carb options!

Below:  veggie egg white cupspumpkin rounds, chocolate pecan pie muffin,  and flax bread

Mom’s squash display

After breakfast I had Mom capture the new ab series I’ve been working on. Abs are a pain in my ass! Click below for a great sunday morning ab series! I’ve started using my fab little gymboss tool. It’s great for workouts like this! No big deal if you don’t have one. In the series, I’ve posted how many reps you do for each excercise. Hope you enjoy<3

I stopped by late morning to my dear friend Natalie’s house (who’s in town from San Fran). Her family lives 5 minutes from mine. They had an event to go to , so I took my blow-dry equipment over to beautify Nat and her Mom. Nat’s brother, Raffi, is the mastermind  behind my blog. After I did their hair, Raffi and I nerded out on our computers for a while. Love being over there, they are truly like a second family.

Before I left, I stopped in the kitchen and feasted my eyes on a huge fruit basket filled with persimmons! I DIE for them…and had no idea they had a persimmon tree in their backyard. SCORE! soooo stoked! They sent me home with bagfull of them. I got a few shots of the perfect little creatures because I just can’t get enough of em’. They are gorgeous. I like to just munch on them raw but you could also bake with them or throw chunks of them into a salad.

Here’s a shot of wilbur… Man of the house. Keeping watch of course. So serious.

Now, this is what I love…..The BBQ in this house! We pretty much BBQ every weekend. Safe to say my parents are some of my bestest friends:) &  living in Southern California, we have the luxury of spending lots of time outside. My folks live off the 14 fwy. It’s Pretty much the desert, so it’s always nice here. Any reason to grill up some marinated chicken, tri-tip, sausage, and salmon. My GOD…Simple, Not tons of seasonings and paired with a lemon/olive oil tossed green salad.

Most of the BBQing goes down right here…end we eat right off the Dad’s homemade tiki-bar. lol

We’re Argentinian…We like to eat.. .meat…

After our late lunch, I had lots to do… including gym sesh. I dropped off willy at home and took off to el gimnasio . My training for the Spartan Race has been really challenging, but I like that. I’ve been told this type of training is really similar to crossfit. I’ve never taken crossfit but I know people who take it are no strangers to burpees, rowing, pull-ups, and body weight squats, and this training has all of that. I’ve been focusing on High Intensity intervals. A lot of stop/GOOOOOOOOO stop/GOOOOOOOO. I’m definitely seeing a difference in muscle tone and I’m feeling lighter on my feet.  I gotta admit, you kinda feel like spartacus after.

(so awkward taking pics at the gym. ew)

Check out the CEP ankle support. So incredibly helpful.

I couldn’t loose track of time because I had a last minute celebration to tend to!

Chelsea + Omar tie the knot!<3

I showed up in my gym clothes, changed in two seconds, threw my hair up and ran outside with the rest of our friends and fam to watch lil Miss Chels and Omar exchange vows in a very intimate ceremony in the backyard. Couldn’t have been more perfect. We ate, drank and danced the night away. Best of luck to these two lovebirds. Omar leaves again for marine training and we are hoping he gets to stay In San Diego! eeeeeekkkk

<3

ok so, I have a ?…

What are your favorite post-training foods?

Do you have a loved one in the Marines? If so, what to expect fot the next four years?
