THE GADARENE SWINE! Best Vegan In town!

In clean food, Dinner dates, Fridays, Restaurants, spotlight, Uncategorized, vegan, Vegetarian On June 5, 2015 0 Comments

Fresh Friday here at From Fries To Fit!

Although todays post is dedicated to my vegans…there’s no doubt that ALL vegans, carnivores, and vegetarians alike would go batshit over the beautifully crafted food at The Gadarene Swine. The VEGAN sister restaurant to Scratch BarLA, in which chef Phillip Frankland Lee offers a complicated, artistic but perfectly paired array of mostly animal fats & proteins. My kinda thing. FOR SURE. The Gadarene Swine is the OPPOSITE. Ode to the Vegetable! (without skimping on the flavor of course!) Have you ever heard of a meat eating chef opening up a vegan spot? Yeah, me neither. Well, when I caught wind of chef Lee’s “no animal, all vegan” new venture here in Studio City, I thought, “hmmm this could be perfect!”

Listen, I’m no vegan, and clearly, he ain’t either honey, but as a food lover…foodie…whatever you want to call it, I can appreciate the art and tastes of all cuisines.  The “Valley” has been on the way up in restaurant culture. The fact that I don’t have to shlep back to Downtown or Hollywood to have a delicious and interesting meal, makes me fuckin’ jump for joy! So, when my brother’s GF, Sarah, a veggie aficionado, came into town from Vancouver, I knew this was going to rock her world.

Sarah, Mom, & I walk in, and are immediately drawn to the beautiful, rustic garden patio. Wood, plants, and succulents everywhere. A mini oasis if you will. Let me make something clear here…this isn’t your typical “Veggie Grill” experience. This is fine dining babes. With that said… expect fine dining prices.

As we cozied up with our Pinot’s, we selected various dishes from the A La Carte menu. Other menu options include: 3 different chefs choice tasting menus, with option of wine pairing. So fancy for the “valley”right?!. Haha. Get into it people. It’s an experience, ok?! The staff was very nice. Each dish explained, and service was above par.

First up…Olive Stuffed Olives…. Holy, BEST THING I EVER, SO CAREFULLY PUT in my MOUTH!!!!  Soft on the inside, crispy on the outside without being greasy. Made with a touch of honey.

Each presentation better than the next. Homemade, lightly toasted sourdough alongside crushed tomato oil with balsamic glaze. This was so delicious! So full of flavor. I mean…it’s in a nest for god’s sake.

Ok, here’s where it gets really fabulous. Look at those colors! This, ladies & gents, is a multi-colored blackened cauliflower, over a bed of creamed cauliflower, topped with dehydrated cauliflower chips & chopped pistachios. O.M.GEEEEEEEE! Loaded inside a beautiful clay bowl, the display itself makes you NOT want to share. Chef Lee somehow manages to separate the flavors of the same vegetable through different textures and seasonings. FAVE!

Ok, mind you…I’m not eating all of this alone. Lol. Between 3 of us, we shared everything. Here is a shot of our next dishes up.

Dirty rice and Hand torn pasta with shaved onions. Both incredibly flavorful! The pasta was done al dente with pureed tomato sauce filled with great texture derived from capers, fresh greens, shaved onion and even, a hint of sweetness from a lil fruit. Perhaps it was pineapple. Not sure, but it definitely held up to, even some of the best pasta I had in Italy recently. The crispy rice was incredible. Brown rice flavored with nori, filled with mushrooms, squash, crispy onions, shaved carrots, avocado… etc. Honestly one of the best vegetarian/vegan meals I have ever had. I know ya’ll, bold statement, but I felt fresh, not heavy. Not one bite of tempeh, tofu..none of that. Everything centered around the “vegetable”.

In that bigger piece of heavy & beautiful pottery, is roasted mushrooms over burnt mashed sweet potato. Woohoooo!

Heres a close up. Beautifully dressed with a hint of acidity, the flavors pop in your mouth, & you really hone in on all the smoky flavor of the roast. With a mix of different mushrooms, fresh peas, greens, and a few crunchy nori chips, it all comes together in a big bowl of “Bitch, taste thissss!!!”

We had a wonderful experience here. The food… fresh, local, organic. Thanks The Gadarene Swine! Also, check out Scratch Bar in LA!

Hey ya’ll!! Happy Thursday!

Things are finally slowing down and back to normal since getting back from Italy. No more jet lag, and I’m back in the kitchen to whip up some favorites to share with you!

This post is special to me. Why??? Well… let’s just say that eggplant was NEVER a top veggie of mine. I was young and dumb with the palate of a 12 year old. LOL. Proud to say, that I’ve found my inner veggie monster and now, can’t imagine not having eggplant as a staple at Ranch Relaxo. (Mi casa)

The great thing about this dildo shaped veggie, is that it’s soooo versatile. You can grill it, bake it, roast it, fry it, baba ghanoush it, bread it…well, steamed…Hmmm. NOT SO MUCH;/

Today, I’m sharing one of my favorite ways to eat it. Freakin’ ROASTEDDDD!!! Before we get into it… i want to share some of the benefits of the Purp.

I used the big ones for this, but you are MORE than welcome to use the smaller Japanese eggplants. Most would argue that they are more flavorful. Maybe right, but I get more meatiness out of these. It’s great as a side dish or as a main for your vegetarian homies.

The recipe is above but let’s go through the instructions.

  • Rinse and pat dry eggplants.

  •  Cut lengthwise.

  • With a sharp knife, score the flesh deeply in diamond shapes.

  • Lay them down, open up cuts, and sprinkle with sea salt

  • Let sit, cut side up for 30 min to release excess water.

  • Pre-Heat oven to 400*

  •  Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.

  • Wipe and lightly squeeze eggplants free of moisture and salt.

  • Brush cut side with olive oil (about 3/4 tsp each), sprinkle with garlic and thyme.

  • Place cut & seasoned side down onto lined baking sheet and roast at 400* for 45 min to 1 hr.

  • Once taken out, let cool for 30 min before handling. Use a spatula to carefully remove from paper.

  • Flip onto a plate. The eggplants will be a beautiful golden , caramel color and flattened out.

  •  Top with chopped cherry tomatoes, feta cheese (I use reduced fat),

  • In a small mixing bowl, which together 2 tbsp olive oil, 2 tbsp red wine vinegar, And 1 tbsp oregano.

  • Pour over the served eggplants with tomatoes and feta.

Date Night.

In Dinner dates, fashion, get the look, Uncategorized On April 13, 2015 0 Comments

This weekend was fantastic! Jordan Spieth won The Masters…Un-F*%@ing-Believable! We had a great time watching the tournament mostly at home (rancho relaxo) but managed to hit up our local sports bar on the last day of it to watch it with some friends.

Watching the tournament was getting us inspired so we went and hit balls at Weddington Golf 2 days in a row! Lol I’ve really enjoyed learning more about the game, and little by little, my swing is getting better.

As you know from my first post back, my BF and I go back n’ forth from LA to the BAY…so this was his weekend to come here ;)  This post is dedicated to our favorite spot near my house. Never fails. We go there EVERY time he comes to town.

Date night is the best! For the most part, if I’m not in the salon...I’m in some sort of sports/workout wear, so dressing up for a nice dinner is a freakin treat.

image-19GET THE LOOK

DRESS: Rory Beca

BELT: Vintage

Tipple and Brine’s “Social Hour” otherwise…Happy Hour, lol starts at 4:30 and goes until 6:30. We typically get there 5:30 and enjoy $2 chef’s choice oysters, and $7 dollar Old Fashioned’s. Seriously AMAZING! The bartenders know what they’re doing. The oysters are always fresh and constantly changing.

The best is if you can make it there on Mondays…DOLLAR OYSTERS!!! Ummmm, hello!

I think the best seats in the house, are the high tables or at the bar. What I mostly LOVEEEE about the restaurant, is it’s vibe..its decor. It’s totally my style. Rustic but sexy. lol. It’s got a barn like feel and is definitely comfortable. I love having a place like this finally show up on my side of the hood. haha.

Crispy Bacon Toast burrata / leeks / fennel pollen $10

This was AMAZING!!! Also try the:

Mushroom Toast goat cheese / caramelized onions / aged balsamic $10

Their full menu hits all the faves… Oysters, Veggies, Sea, Land and Dessert. Everything fresh, and I haven’t tried anything I didn’t love.

Always start off with a dozen oysters, and extra crispy fries;)

After dinner we headed upstairs to the Tunnel Bar(which opens at 7) for a dessert cocktail and a nice sunset vibe on the rooftop.

Andddd… the view’s not so bad either;)

Ended our date with heatlamps and whiskey, and an uber ride for 4 bucks. lol

Next Up: Semi-Homemade pizzas for a movie night in! Stay posted! XOXOX

Your new summer drink… low cal wine!!!!!!

Hey guys! Hope everyone enjoyed a fabulous weekend off! I had a super relaxing and fun weekend. Well, full of errands, but also full of fam and friends time:) got a couple if really great workouts in as well. That always makes me feel amazing. Sunday we did the Santa Monica Stairs, and today, I took a great barre class at Exhale in the gorgeous Fairmont Hotel in Santa Monica. Nice switch up from Sundays cardio. We smashed those stairs though, for real. My calves were begging for mercy in Barre today! Lol.
Anyway, I I wanted to share with y’all a little review I did on some really fab new wines from Brancott Estate. I was asked to review them, #1: cuz you know this chick lovessss her vino, and #2: cuz it’s totally up all our alleys!!!

20% lighter in calories!!!!
Y’all know I love to find new and great ways to still enjoy these treats without being a cow, so I thought it would be appropriate, right!?!?
Jeeeeezzzzuzzzzzz! Faaaakkkkk! Sign me up.

Let me brake it down…
* Compared with Brancott Estate Sauvignon Blanc 2012 & Pinot Grigio 2012. Per 5 fl. oz. serving of Brancott Estate Flight Song Sauvignon Blanc / Pinot Grigio. Average Analysis: Calories 88/87, Carbohydrates 4.5g/5.2g, Protein Og/Og, Fat Og/Og

Now…again, I have to tell you this, cuz I’m profeshhhhhh, but seriously, always bring you my true opinion.
(I participated in an Influencer Activation on behalf of Millennial Central for Brancott Estate Wines. I received product samples to facilitate my review as well as a promotional item to thank me for my participation.)

These wines are sooo perfect for this beautiful sunny weather we are having! They are not heavy on the alcohol, so you will not feel like a sack of rocks, but also very light and crisp. For me…there is nothing light a glass of chilled white in the warm weather!

The first one I tried from my lil swag bag, was the Brancott Pinot Grigio.

Clearly, this is a fun wine to enjoy with a girlfriend! I mean, you could also enjoy with the boyfriend..with fam…or at home alone like a creep too. Lol. I headed to my friend Jule’s house for some snacks and give this a go. We are both into clean eating and lighter fare, so this was our girls evening!

Ook, so…the bottle seemed to have gone wayyyyy to fast. It was a warm night in the valley, and it was just what the doc ordered. Super crisp with a nice clean finish. It was delectable! Absolutely nothing heavy about this wine at all!
In fact, Jules was even asking about getting a case for an upcoming party. What I loved, was that there was nothing complicated about it. Really can be paired with a lot! This particular Pinot Grigio captures wonderful floral notes, ripe apple and nashi pear & pure freshness. Full of taste and lighter in calories. (A freakin bonus!)

The other gem that I tried was baby! The Sauvignon Blanc.

Now this one…now this one was a family affair! We all had a bit with our Easter Argentinian BBQ;)
Dad was “Grill Master” of course, and he neverrrrr lets down!

Dinner consisted of:

**ENTRAÑA (skirt steak)

**SALAD (traditional oil/vinegar)

YEP. That could could NOT get anymore Argentinian!

The Sauvignon Blanc is definitely a a bit more full-flavored. Still very crisp but also a smooth finish. For upcoming info check into their facebook page and stay in the know!

I love this cute quote;)
You can find these great wines at most groceries stores and I highly recommend you try at least one. At a great price point, it’s definitely a Cali come up!
Happy Monday babes!!!

Drinkin’ Kirin while makin’ sushi

In At home cooking, blogger fun, clean food, Dinner dates, friends, Reviews, Sponsored, Uncategorized On April 14, 2014 1 Comment

Hi lovely babes!!! Hope you all enjoyed and tried making those Cheesy Vegan Cauliflower Steaks from the last post!!!

Today, I’ve got a particularly special post for y’all;) As you know, entertaining is totally my happy place, so I was ecstatic when Kirin Ichiban & I paired up to host a little get together while enjoying some Kirin Ichiban & Kirin Light beers, as well as some homemade Japanese recipes!
Check this out!
(I participated in an Influencer Activation on behalf of Millennial Central for Kirin. I received product samples to facilitate my review as well as a promotional item to thank me for my participation.)

First of all, before I share a little background of these awesome beers… …Can I just say one freakin thang!?

Kirin Light offers full flavor and authentic Japanese-style beer with just 95 calories!!!

95 CALORIES! And it’s sooooo TASTY and pairs fantastic with healthier, lighter dishes.
Also for those who aren’t into light beers…also try

Kirin Ichiban which is a 100-percent malt, first-press beer with rich flavor, a smooth finish and clean aftertaste.
• Only uses the first strain of malt liquid, which means it’s truly beer at its purest.
• Pairs beautifully with traditional Japanese cuisine and modern Asian cuisine.

-Kirin Ichiban Frozen which is a draught beer topped with frozen Kirin Ichiban, using a proprietary process.
• It is an innovative way to enjoy Ichiban in Japan, and is now available in select U.S. locations.

Japanese cuisine tends to be quite light, which is great for us skinny BETCHES;) lol no, but seriously. With a clean, light meal, along with a traditional Japanese beer, you can rest easy knowing that you haven’t broke the calorie bank. I mean… Unless you eat everything tempura. No thanks.

When I received my little Kirin care package, I noticed a little booklet with yummy recipes. I was pleased to see that Kirin has partnered with celebrity chef, Candice Kumai, to bring Japanese-style beer to the growing Asian cuisine movement.

Check out Kirin’s facebook for great recipes posted by Candice
The recipes did look amazing…but we were all dying to hit up Mitsuwa (Japanese market) and pick up some really great looking sushi and sashimi fish!
We went a little nuttzzoooo……

I am a sushi fanatic!!!! Oh and making your own is soooo worth it! It’s definitely fun to do with friends. We were cracking up. Lol, and you for SURE can’t serve sushi without ice cold Japanese beer.

Let me give you a little background on Kirin….
Kirin is known in Japan and all over the world as beer at its purest because of its first-press brewing process and clean taste.
• One of Japan’s oldest breweries, with a history dating back to 1888.

• Japanese custom requires never filling your own glass and never letting another’s glass get completely empty.

• In Japan, when everyone is ready to drink, they salute by saying “kanpai.”
I just really love it. I ALWAYS order a Kirin light and a small cold sake (to share of course..)when it go out to my secret special sushi spots around town;)
With only 95 cals a bottle. Ummm.. I’ll take it. Thanks.

We went full out restaurant style! Ahhhhh I’m so proud of my sushi skills y’all! Hot damn! Looks so prefeshhh, right!? Haha

But seriously…you need a super sharp knife. I was strugglin’ a bit.
We even picked up some yuzukosho, which is a Japanese citrus chili paste, and pairs delicious with sushi & sashimi.
At the table was also some, not so healthyspicy siracha mayo... Dassss right!

Kirin Ichiban is a 100-percent malt, first-press beer with rich flavor, a smooth finish and clean aftertaste.
• Only uses the first strain of malt liquid, which means it’s truly beer at its purest.
• Pairs beautifully with traditional Japanese cuisine and modern Asian cuisine.

Check out the spread! That sushi is on point! We also chard some delicious Shishito peppers
Despite the word “pepper”, they are far from spicy. They are just right paired with this food and are super easy to prepare. A party fave no doubt.
You can find these super cheap as well.

Also at the table…some jumbo shrimp sautéed in teriyaki sauce and lots of garlic, as well as traditional salted edamame.

Not gonna lie…this May or may not be my calling.

Everyone was in awe of the yummy spread. We ate till we couldn’t move and polished off the beers. Haha. Oh..and the sake. I was not surprised to see that everyone loved Kirin. I knew they would. I loveeeeeeee it too!;)

Anddddd. Then. I got sassy. ;).
Thank you to Kirin for hooking it up with my sweet care package to host the fab dinner! And thanks to my friends for enjoying and waiting to eat till 9:15 p.m. Lol.
Love y’all!

How to throw a SAUSAGE MAKING party. That’s right……

In At home cooking, bbq, clean food, Dinner dates, friends, Sunday funday, Uncategorized On December 12, 2013 1 Comment

Hi lovely friends!
I’ve got a super special post for you!!! I know, you’re looking at the title, like WTF!??
Hahaha, well, it’s eggggggzactly what it seems. Sausage making like the pros! Ok, I can’t take credit for this but, I was a part of it & I think everyone must try to make their own sausage at least once in their @ife! seriously!!!! Why? Cuz it’s the bomb!!!!

My girlfriend Amal, (shaved head) recently moved to this beautiful home in Echo Park, and had renovated her backyard into a chefs dream!!! A beautiful outdoor kitchen, along with a cozy wood burning fireplace. All of us girls are big foodies and wanna be chefs, so we had been talking about getting together, but were waiting for the construction to finally be done!

We have been wanting to have a sausage making party for like…..EVER!!!!!!So, finally the day came! We each picked up our own meat, and headed to Echo Park for the day. When I arrived with my bag full of goodies, I noticed Amal had set up the huge table full of every herb, every spice, and every sauce combo you could possible think to stuff with a sausage. Wow!

It’s not a party without a bit of day drinkin:)

I picked up a couple bottles of a light white wine as our aperitif.

Soooo, I wasn’t thinking and when picking out what type of meat filling I wanted, and bought a bunch of chicken breast from Hardy’s meat market. Amazing, fresh chicken. Here’s the problem. YOU NEED FAT TO BIND THE MEAT!!!! there goes my attempt at making the healthiest sausage around! Such a dumb ass.

I was determined though…..

We were using the Kitchen Aid stand mixer with the sausage making attachment. Which, BTW, is AMAZEBALLZ, and if you’re a cook, a MUST! I’ve been dying for one since I was like…hmmmmm. Maybe 18. Why I haven’t purchased one yet, I haven’t got a damn clue! They are fantastic! Perhaps it’s because it takes up about 1/2 my kitchen counter! Lol
All this work called for some delicious homemade cocktails. Besides, we weren’t goin anywhere anytime soon…this shit was werrrrrrek!

As most of you know, I am froM Argentina, and anyone who knows anything about my country, knows that you can’t set the table without bOmb ass CHIMICHURRI!! Check out the recipe here. Simple and perfect! I brought it from home, ( I buy mine at mercado buenos Aires, when I’m too lazy to make it myself) because I thought, why not, this is gonna taste bomb in my sausage!!

I was cracking up cuz, here I am, trying to make my sausage be alllllllll healthy n shit, and here comes Amal……. 1 thousand pounds of full fat, full flavor PORK! goooooood lord! Ok, maybe I’ll borrow a lil;)
Amal got all this amazing meat from a new local butcher in West Hollywood. Some of you may have heard of them. They are the hottest new butcher babes in town! Lindy & Grundy serve up some mean meats! All local, pasteurized, and organic! I absolutely LOVE the idea of the “small shops” makin’ a comeback! This business has absolutely made it. They offer classes for meat enthusiasts, delivery for all your meat needs;) and offer the freshest product around.
Girl, I a need some of that pork up in here now…..

Dianne and Stella:)

After prepping our meats, it was time to grill up lunch! Lemon cilantro chicken!

We made a delicious salad made of:

***FULL FAT FETA (generous)

Ladies who lunch.

Isn’t this chicken gorgeous? I love dark meat!

Stella babe…with her goatee.

The pups were quite good! No begging and they got along! Willy only likes little girls:)

Haley and Amal…Besties. Beauties.

A lil selfie;) had to.

Alright, now comes the fun!
Roasted garlic in oil, ready to be ground with the meats!

Y’all….so we thought, “this is gonna be cake!” Whelp, not so much….here’s a shot of us in action. We were being attacked by wasps who apparently have a thing for raw meat. WTF! I was grinding as Amal was fanning them away. It was disastrous.

So here comes Dianne. Y’all this took all of us. Forget it if you are attempting this shit alone.

We had so much meat to grind…this was gonna take forever! Remember….we still had to mix all the herds, and spices…them tube our mixture into casing. Omg. Hahahaha…notice Dianne’s face…she May or may not be getting stung by a wasp.

ABOUT 8 HOURS LATER…….. we’ve got ourselves some sausage!!!!!!!!

Piping the sausage through into the casing was a nightmare. It took us forever! No joke. We had one person pushing the ground meat through, then another person making sure no air was gettin into the casing, then ANOTHER person, twisting to make the sausage shape. Holy shit! We put in some serious time!

But…here we are, happy as pigs in shit with our first amateur batch of sausages! Hahahhaha

Finishing up our final batch in the dark hours of the night. Lol.

Well… she blows y’all. You are supposed to let them hand in the fridge for at least 48 hrs apparently, but fuck it. You know how hard we worked for this!? We ARE having some! Fire up the grill! Soooo proud!

We hung the rest to dry. We probably could of fed a small army. We each took a few of each other creations home and hung in our own fridges. I gotta say….pretty amazing!!!!!

Wanna try this at home???? Check out a quick video to help get you started!

Hope you enjoyed this post as much as I enjoyed writing it! Let me know your thoughts!

It is a gorgeous day today here in sunny LA! I am sooooo stoked that I am off today, I can’t even tell you! I woke up feeling super refreshed and ready to take on the day. I managed to sleep in till 6:30. Kind of unheard of for me. No joke. Lol. No yoga this morning. I’ve got other workout plans for later;)
I met up with Haley this morning instead for a lovely lil breakfast date at Le Pain Quotidien.

This place is an absolute hotspot. They have quite a few here in Cali, and I gotta say, EXTREMELY fresh food and generous portions. You can’t help but be enamored by all of the baked muffins, tartines, pastries and loaves of fresh baked breads. Ok….this is all veryyyyyy tempting to me. Ugh.
It all looks soooooo delicious! I’m a lucky girl that this place is walking distance to my house.

While waiting for haley, I ordered a non-fat vanilla latte and sat outside.

This is what healthy chicks do…lol. We salivate over all the baked goods, the…end up ordering egg white omelettes. Lol. Hahaha. Seems like a very simple breakfast, but you’d be surprised how many places manage to fuck this up. Also the little things reallydo count for me. For example… They set the table with fresh sea salt and fresh pepper, organic strawberry jam, and my fave, praline butter. Omggggg.

After feeling pretty full, but still comfortable, I laid on the couch and studied my crazy ass choreography for my Zumba class. I’ve got a new song on the playlist that makes me loose my head! Loving this song right now!

Don Omar- Zumba

I know…it looks like an alien language. It only makes sense to me! Hahaha.
I made a racket upstairs practicing in front of the mirror. So flashdance;)

10:30 A.M Zumba KILLED IT! loved seeing all my ladies! We danced our asses off. Legit cardio. My homie Rozanne made it all the way from San Diego! Sweaty Nettie’s!

I had loads of energy…I forgot to mention I took a scoop full of C4 by Cellucor mixed with water before class, and I was unstoppable! Omg.
Anything that has the words “extreme” or “explosive” is bound to be fuckin GNARLY. Excuse my French. This is not something I take on a normal basis, bit it’s fun sometimes for that extra drive in your workouts. I’m sure it’s not the most “natural” product out there….but hey:/

After my hour Zumba class…my adrenaline was still cray cray, so I stopped at LA Fitness and busted out today’s GPP FITNESS WOD.

Check it out. It was pretty intense. I had to modify the weight and did 10 lbs instead of 15lbs.
My last round of the sets, I couldn’t step anymore. I had to do the last whole round stationary. Ahhhhh, sooo tired! Lots of child pose happening at the moment of completion. Lol

Step down bicep curls

Step down overhead press

Step down overhead tricep ext.

Superman back extension

Lunch was nothing exciting to share. Plain chicken breast, a coconut flour pancake, and some veggies.

I’m trying to be super clean for the day, cuz tonight….ohhhh watch out. I’m meeting up with the girls from my old job (Sassoon) at our old stomping grounds;) Nic’s Martini Lounge. We go just a tad bit overboard on happy hour. I’m saving my naughty tummy for all those stupid delicious appetizers and wine. Hence….the double workout today. Lol. Stop judging, I know you can’t revisit a goooooood happy hour! C’mon!
Made it to Nic’s, and because of the lighting…couldn’t get a decent pic of me to save my life. This is as good as it’s gonna get y’all.

Missing my assistants to the max! All dressed in black. I love it. So Gaga. These kids are amazing! Some, for two years straight assisting, just to get the chance of being a “Sassoon trained stylist or colorist. I remember those days. It was my life. Looking for people (hair models) on the street willing to get their hair cut off by an aspiring stylist. It’s a lesson in dedication, patience, and tolerance. Not easy, so.. I commend them for working as hard as they do. Now, at my new salon, not having hired an assistant yet…I am now starting to realize how much important they are for the running of the salon. In fact, I’m a bit crazed without one. Call me snobby…bu I’m used to someone being right there if I drop my comb.

My Asian mob. Plus +1. They are sisters to me. The blonde on the left…well, let’s just let her think she Asian. Lol;) she loves it!

We had a GREAT time! We ate and drank like cows. Like…not kidding. Not a single vegetable was served. Yeah, this pic below…..not even the 1/2 of it. Lol. All carbs. Fries…pizza..olive bread…quesadillas…shrimp cocktail..more fries… Ugh. I was sick by the end of the night. Looks like yoga at 6:30 A.M will have to be pushed back till after work. Oooops.
I’m really good at making up for it though…lol. Lots of juicing and protein for the next few days, along with back to back days of workouts. Gotta get back on it! Just because you had one really bad meal….doesn’t mean the world is over, and your fucked. It just means, you enjoyed it for that moment, and you pick it back up the next day with full motivation, strength, and without punishing yourself.

Love y’all! Hope you had an amazing Wednesday! Kick Thursday’s ass!!!!!

Continuing on my sushi grade fish obsession…I wanted to share with y’all our fun sushi making party of three from this past weekend:)
Ok, so remember on my last post…how I bought this gorgeous piece of fish at the farmers market?
Yes, that beautiful sashimi from the last post.

Well…since I had bought a ridiculously HUGE honkin piece it, I thought to myself, “WTF am I gonna do with that!” In my eyes…not so sushi grade after 3 days in the fridge. Sorrynotsorry. So I decided to have some friends over the following day after I had purchased it for an impromptu “HOMEMADE SUSHI NIGHT”

My friends Yasuna and Andrew came over. Yasuna’s parents recently owned a sushi restaurant, so I thought. “EAZYYYY PEAZZZYY” Well….not so much.

#1: No sushi knives….

#2: No sticky rice

Time to improvise.

I don’t care what anyone says. Even if your knife is super sharp…nothing can cut like a proper sushi chef knife. It is what it is.
My wusthof knife will have to do. I ripped thought that shit like lion. At this point, the rice had been cooking 45 minutes and I was starving.

Ok,so I’m not gonna lie. Homegirls does not keep white anything in the house. NO white rice, NO white bread, NO white pasta. Seriously. No joke.
So you can bet Yasuna was not having it. Luckily..well I don’t know bout lucky…but…I had some bomb ass brown rice in the pantry:)
Hmmmm….could we possibly use brown rice as sushi rice? Hunnnaaayyyyy…..DUH! Yes we did!!!
Here’s how:

Cook rice. (Short grain) 1 cup rice; 1 cup water in rice cooker
Thinly slice any veggies you want in roll and set aside, and slice your sashimi.
Once cooked, let rice cool, add 2 tbsp rice wine vinegar and a pinch of salt.
Fold together while fanning rice. ( I know, weird, but that’s what all my Japanese friends say to do)
P.S. you could add a tsp of sugar along with vinegar… but you know…I’m not fuckin with dat!
Lay out your seaweed wrap, add a thin layer of your rice, layer in your veggies and fish.
Start rolling. Tucking…rolling..tucking.
You get it.

Check out my other attempt at “Can I call this SUSHI?”

Now we’re talking!!!
Let me give you a little memo though…
The cutting of the roll can be tricky without severely sharp knives, soooooo
It may help you to place Saran plastic wrap tightly over the whole roll and cut your pieces through the wrap.
**this ensures a cleaner cut, while keeping the roll from falling apart.
That may or may not have happened to us.
My secret;)

But I mean. I’m no sushi chef, and this ishhhh looks RIDICULOUS!

I steamed some yummy edamame (shelled) and served it with crushed garlic, salt, and soy sauce.
The only thing that was missing from our super fun sushi party, was wasabi, and ginger, but hell! We didn’t care:)
Happy..hungry friends were stoked, and now..WE EAT!

Helooooo..helllllllllooooooo! I’m back! Just feeling like I’m finally getting back into my groove and this week has started off AMAZING! My house is still a bit messy, but hey. Whatever.
Started off the week full force at the gym and now a proud new member of COREPOWER yoga.
I’m really into it right now, and the best part…. It doesn’t irritate the tendonitis! Thank god. I used to loathe yoga, now…it’s the ONLY thing that makes me focus in every sense of the word. My breath…awareness in my body and allowing myself to truly understand how to clear my racing mind. So into it! I’ve been doing the heated fusion classes, but still really enjoy traditional and non-heated.
Anyway… I am feeling strong, and I’m enjoying my new practice and progress.
What are you guys into right now? Do you listen to your body?

My breakfasts lately have been incredible POG’s!!! that’s right.. (pots of greatness!) my Instagram friends inspire me to change it up constantly. 1- to stay excited about clean yummy foods and 2- especially to avoid binging eating.
I literally fill a mason jar full of super delicious & nutritious foods such as
chia seeds in unsweetened almond milk, & maca powder
Greek yogurt with your favorite protein powder,
Favorite nut mix
Berries,kiwis, stone fruits

The possibilities are endless:)
Just keep layering and changing it up! So fun and AAAAAAMMMAAAZINGGGG.

Prep for the pot of greatness, along with some David’s tea:)

Today on the tea menu… Mint Julep, with fresh mint of course. I discovered David’s Tea while on my Vancouver trip, and now, can’t get enough. Remember now…I was always Miss. Coffee. Kinda over that now… Weirddddddd.

Wilbur, aka…white ninja sidekick is stoked to be hangin’ with his mama all day:) I sneak him into shops and I don’t care if I’m judged. Lol. On days off, this is my rolldawg.

As you know, I’ve been on a mission to finish my upstairs and finally get an actual office space for more organization. Sooooo with the help of my Amiga, I went on a gnarly desk hunt.

I was at my folks house (house-sitting) so we decided to hit up Urban Home. There she all her glory. My new desk! ok, it may or may not actually be a dining table…but eff it. Honestly…the pic just doesn’t do it justice, and no it’s not 2-toned wood. It’s the light. So annoying. I swear, it’s really pretty. Best part, it’s a bigggg ol’ thang! ok.. So I bought it, then we both realize….”um, how are we gonna get this to my house 25 miles away.?” Mos def not in my VW Golf. Lol. Figuring this out mañana… Also a few more items I need to find…preferably like, tomorrow….
night stand lamps
A tv wall mount
One more small dresser. ( I have a lot
of sports bras.
oh…. And a desk chair, maybe two.
Eeeekkkkk…thank goodness for that check comin. Jussssst a lil home decor addiction, that’s all. Ugh
This bitch is a sucker for a good sale!

Along with my new Le Roche Posay regimen, I’ve been blessed with these perfect little soap treats and body lotions by LaBellaVieSpa.
Took a quick shopping break for a soap photoshoot. Lol

Time to chill, have a beer, and enjoy a delicious dinner with the homie. Outdoor patio of course.

We ordered light beers. My low carb go to.. Michelob Ultra. In an extra cold glass.
An amazing seafood ceviche. I actually managed to only have 4 or 5 chips. Honest. Lol

Japanese cucumber salad.
( not pictured: veggies with hummus)

Pretty damn shocked at how healthy you can eat at The Lazy Dog Cafe. Apparently, you can bring your dog there…pfffff, who knew? Delicious, satisfying, and a gorgeous night out.

Reviews are fun! Not only do I get to sample some really great products, ( sometimes not so great :( lol) but It allows me to share with all of you, foods and products to encourage continues success in your fit and healthy lifestyle. Plus, sometimes you just need to switch it up. We all get bored of the same shit different day.
So first up… DETOUR BARS.
I tried these for the first time at the Blend Retreat a couple months ago, and had a secret crush on them, particularly the new flavor. Neapolitan. Well maybe cuz that was my favorite ice cream flavor growing up. Seriously.
The lovely folks over at Detour, sent me a lil box to get me hooked, lol. I also had a copule of friends, who aren’t Neapolitan obsessed, try it to see if they would be into it….and the main consensus, “MMMMMMM, YUMMMMMMM. That’s lovely.”
I don’t think it’s considered a meal replacement bar. For me, it’s a snack bar. Mid day, or after a workout in between meals.
It is actually low in sugar, but I’m not a huge fan of sugar alcohols. I used to not mind them, And I’m sure a lot of you also don’t, but lately, I’ve noticed that when I consume certain sugar alcohols, I get gassy, and bloated. Not cute.

I’ve been eating 1 bar, as a snack, every other day, and luckily, so far, no bloating. Stoked! If you are not familiar with sugar alcohols…click here.
What I absolute LOVE, is the taste! Not too sweet at all! Pheeeew. Some bars are so sweet it almost makes me sick! These are the perfect texture. Slightly nougat-ty, with no chalky after taste.
only 5 grams of fat. 15 protein. 3 sugars. 3 NET carbs!
Check out more about they’re other products and how to order here!

So here’s what’s up…. Overall, I’m really into these. They’re perfect for on the go busy chicks. These are just the right size. If you’re someone that can easily sub a meal for a bar, they do offer larger meal replacement bars as well. I’m tired of 100 calorie almond packs. These are protein packed and without all the fat. Oh and taste way yummier:)

And for the finale….they are awesome. They are offering my readers 25% off your order!!! Ohhhh heeeeyyyyyyyy. Honestly go order yourself some yummy, healthy snacks. You deserve it.

Onto some really important business….. Our internal systems….
Let me start by saying, PROBIOTICS SAVED MY LIFE!!
Ok, not like I was dying…but I swear, since starting to incorporate these amazing products into my life, my everything has become better!
Here’s where I go into a lil TMI. (Too much info) lol.
My whole life (no joke, whole life), I’ve struggled with sluggish digestion, CONSTANT constipation, and I believe, consistently battled with candida. Seriously, awful. I always felt that my good bacteria often battled the bad bacteria and lost. Never a nice feeling.
Before really understanding and becoming knowledgeable about how probiotics worked, I would just eat a bit of yogurt or maybe even buy some light over the counter “no name” shitty pro-b product, and I remember thinking, ” this is bull shit, I don’t know why “they” say this is suppose to help me?”
Well babes, do your research. You MUST take your body to a MUCH higher level of healthy flora to encourage optimum health benefits.
Taking a daily probiotic supplement has been shown to help restore a balanced digestive sytem and promote healthy digestion and natural defenses. My belly is a happy lady now:)

Did you know, that as we age, the amount of healthy bacteria in our bodies begins to decrease? Also, things like, stress, illness, and antibiotics, can really upset our digestive balance, and create a segway for harmful bacteria to make your body it’s new home. Um, no thank you.

These Ultimate Flora “Extra Care” are made with all natural ingredients.
* NO gmos
* NO soy or dairy

* DO have 30 billion active cultures
offer delayed release capsules to avoid acidity in the belly

Totally obsessed with their probiotics, I came to realize that I had tried another one of their specialty products!! Remember when I did my 7 day cleanse??! it was unbelievable! I loved it. They offer all strengths of probiotics, immune system builders, total body cleansing, you freakin name it! They are the LEADING company in all that is digestive care.
Honestly, when Renew Life first contacted me about possibly reviewing a couple of their products, I FREAKED OUT! I emailed them right away, like…omggggggg, it’s a sign! I’ve been needing you in my life! Ahhhhhhhh. Lol. Just like that.
I have absolutely benefited from taking these products. I may or may not stock my fridge with a few different strengths. I’m telling you. Obsessed.
Let me ask you now….. Have you ever experienced digestive issues, bloating, constipation, irritation, yeast infections, etc?
If you’ve answered yes to any of those, you need to give these a try. They are worth every penny. They are like gold to me. I’ve even got a batch of 50 billion & 100 billion in the fridge that I have on hand for critical digestive health. Here is a LIST of places where you can find Ultimate Flora products.
Here’s where you may get LUCKY!
Renew Life has freakin HOOKED IT UP!
They are offering to give away a 2 month supply of Ultimate Flora products to 1 lucky winner!!!!
Seriously, what are you waiting for!!!!!!!

SO READY FOR SUMMER! Check out this beautiful RIBBON ZUCCHINI SALAD & my gorgeous Monday!

In Breakfast, Dinner dates, fitness, friends, GPP FITNESS, hike, popular recipes, sassoon, Uncategorized, WOD On June 11, 2013 1 Comment

Hello lovelies!! Sorry I’ve been a bit MIA on the posts lately, but life has been super busy. I know, no excuses! Well, at least I make it a really great one when I do. I’ve got some amazing recipes coming up in the next week, so please be on the lookout;)

My favorite posts are always the ones on Tuesdays:) as you know, I LOVE MONDAYS, so this is my time to recap all the fun and beauty of my perfect day. Along with a few other things!

Exhibit A:

Favorite flowers. PEONIES:)
$6.99 for a bunch at Trader Joe’s
Freakin gorgeous and smell devine.

I’ve been playing around with baking using protein powder lately (I am loving this one) and since I wake up so inhumanly early, I decided to whip something up.
I was attempting to make berry protein muffins using my new fave protein powder….and ummmmm…. My dumb ass forgot to grease the muffin tins…

Sooooo pissed! These were actually really tasty, but I couldn’t even fake a good picture! Ughhh.
So, I’ve decided to hold on the recipe until further notice. Lol

After scarfing down a couple of those muffins, I needed to move my body… I grabbed my iPad to check my WOD on GPP Fitness.

Aces & Eights

AMRAP in 30 min: (AMRAP=as many rounds as possible)

800 m run
15 pullups
15 pushups (strict)
15 burpees
15 situps

My friend and I decided that was just too beautiful of a morning to not hit the mountain for a hike. This would be the “cardio” portion of my day. This amazing spot, little did I know, is location 10 freakin minutes from my house! WTF! How have I never been here!? 20130610-223113.jpg

This hidden gem is called Franklin Canyon. Easy to get to but not crowded. The BEST! If you live near, you need to go…btw, make sure to come to a COMPLETE stop at the stop sign, they will send you a ticket in the mail. Say cheese!;)

We took Willy, who chased absolutely everything. So annoying, but he needed to get his workout in. There were lizards, squirrels, ducks, rabbits…..

And then…we found this little guy!!!
Poor baby got stuck on the other side of the fence and was trying to climb up it. Aweeeeeeee.

I never knew how much I loved turtles! We got him to the other side.:)

This place is stunning! I felt like I was, I don’t know…..somewhere definitely OTHER than LA! For sure going back. It wasn’t the type of hike that was not too strenuous, but we still got our sweat on. We power walked the shit outta that place! Lol

Around 11 am, we headed to one of our local favorite breakfast spots, Sweet Butter. In Sherman Oaks, on Ventura. We sat at one of the outdoor tables, and enjoys iced lattes:)

Check out their sweet little courtyard. I loved what they wrote:) I think they change it everyday.

I ordered a bomb ass veggie omelette… Egg whites filled with roasted corn, and chard roiled asparagus, yellow squash, and tomatoes. Obsession. Yes, I ate the grain toast…and it was perfect!

Our spread….our friend Yasuna met up with us. So, no…. It wasn’t just the two of us gettin’ down on 3 platefuls of food. Lol.
But…..girl gurrrrl was hungrrrryyyy!

It’s 12:30.. And that is a skinny 5 calorie margarita in my hand, duh. It’s freakin summer.

Finally I am getting some much needed VITAMIN D! It ended up damn hot in the valley, and luckily my girlfriend’s got a pool in her complex;)
I’m dying for a bit of color!

We laid out..jumped in the pool a bunch, drank Margie’s, read the latest food and health mags, and munched on fresh berries, grapes, and nectarines. Honestly, couldn’t have ask for more this Monday. As I flipped through the pages of Martha Stewart Living, whilst burning my buns, I stopped at this page, and gawked.

How amazing does this spread look!
That’s it….I’m inviting the Amigas over for dinner…
And this is what I will attempt;)
I mean…..this is my favorite way to eat. A little of this..a little of that…
I didn’t have all those things in the pic, but I ad-libbed.
Here she all her glory;)

The girls brought over 2 super stinky and amazing cheeses over. ( I’m gonna need Renew Life Probiotics tomorrow:/)
* truffled Gouda
* and some triple cream amazing -ness.
I will tell you now…the three of us almost finished off two blocks of damn cheese. #nowillpower.

This is a great and easy way to entertain! Thanks Martha!
I put this together in no time! Pretty much ransack your fridge….and platter that

Here’s what we’ve got here:

* Hard boiled eggs

* Salami

* Romaine drizzled with blood orange olive oil, champagne vinegar, and pecorino.

* Green Spanish olives

* Leftover lemon, thyme, garlic baked salmon

* Leftover grilled peppercorn pork

* Pesto Zucchini, avocado salad

* Roasted mini red, orange, and yellow peppers

* Sautéed baby Broccoli with crushed garlic and olive oil.

OMGGGGGG….. never have I ever. Yummmmmmm

This dinner was special! Yasuna, (on the left) has finally passed her creative presentation! That is how it works when working for Sassoon. Once you qualify as a stylist ( apprenticeship can be 1 1/2 yrs- 2 1/2 yrs) you then, 6 months later, have to come up with a “Final” creative presentation.
* 10 models
* 10 looks ( creative)
* theme
* Wardrobe
* Make up

This is not an easy task. Finding models on the street that are willing to let you do whatever you want to their hair is HARD! oh, and did I mention, for no pay! Yeah, very hard to pull off. This process pretty much takes over your life for a good chunk of time.

This is us celebrating her getting her life back! Lol. Food…and wine…and movie night;)
We snuggled up and watched The Perfect Host…um, a bit disturbing.
This is how my night ended….
My froyo obsession got to me again!:/

The following are some of the highlights from Yasuna’s presentation at Sassoon Salon Beverly Hills.

My gorgeous ratchet friends;) love them. Supportive and amazing:)

Cheers to a successful day!

Holy post Valentines Day morning! Last night was sooo fun! We were CRAZY!
As I reminisce on last night’s single girls Valentine, I’m scarfing down some pretty protein pancakes before work.

1 heaping scoop of vanilla protein powder

1 egg

2 egg whites

Best breakfast ever.

So let me break down our “festivities” from last night…

Haley and I ran away from work as fast as we could to make it to our 7:50 movie…. Our main concern was making it to Casa Vega for our Mexican grub before heading out ;) I run in to the restaurant, pay for the food, and they hand me this….. Tell me, how the F*%k am I to fit this in my bag to sneak in!!? whatever, we were so stoked on our food, that we ransacked the chips and salsa on our drive.

Yes, that’s right….. We were total tourists. We went to Universal Studios Citywalk! Hahaha… I mean…really?

I don’t think I’ve been to Citywalk since I was like 17. Awe, those were the days. When all I cared about were, boys, clothes, and making out.

We stopped some random dude to take a picture of us in front of the sign. So funny, I think he expected us to speak a different language..he couldn’t quite understand why us local chicks wanted a pic in front of the parking lot sign… Lol

Anyway…just please notice our huge bags. Full of food, champagne and blankets;)

It was actually not as crazy packed as I would of expected it to be on V-Day. This place is sooo silly, freakin lights and tourists everywhere. I kinda loved it;)

Pajamas n’ all….ready to watch our boyfriend Channing Tatum in Side Effects. ( which by the way, I really liked)

We were in total BIG GURRRRRLLLL mode. We sat all the way in the back and started pouring our celebratory first glass of champagne…of course we brought plastic champagne flutes, and yes, we even brought berries to throw in there too:) such girls. Of course, Haley ended up knocking over her first glass, we had no napkins or silverware, and now the floor was sticky. Genius.

Couldn’t be more stoked on how perfect the flute fit in the cupholder…you would think it was designed for it:) THANK GOD we got there early, cuz it literally took 20 minutes to set up our foodie fiasco.
On this fine evening….. Our menu consisted of:

chilli con queso dip with fried flour tortillas

Fresh guacamole with chips and salsa

And a HUGE ASS carnitas burrito that we split in 1/2.

Stuffed my face silly. Here’s to me and my funny valentine. See, single isn’t so bad;)

Hope you all had a great day! Xo
P.s. don’t judge me…I will eat clean tomorrow;) lol

Happy BORN day to meeeeee!!

In birthday girl, circuit, Dinner dates, friends, life, Uncategorized On February 1, 2013 3 Comments

Hey guys! How are y’all!? My cleanse is over and I’m back to share my very special BORN day with you! Proud to say that it’s my last year of my 20′s! The big 29.
Someone told me yesterday that once you hit thirty, to watch for a shift. That I will definitely will feel a difference. Whatever the f*#k that’s supposed to mean. Al I know is, that I feel FANTASTIC! I say BRING IT 30! I have a good feeling in my belly right now with all the good vibes coming my way for the year.

This morning I woke up super early. Not kidding, like 4:30. Waking up is my favorite part of the day.

I’ve got great news! I finally learned to make and post videos! I’m such a dork. Please excuse the not-so-cuteness.
You’re getting me fresh faced today chicks!
This video is totally armature, but I wanted to share with you guys, my favorite circuit work out.
It’s quick, effective, and the best part is, that you can do it right in your living room before getting ready for work. Sometimes my schedule is so crazy that I can’t set apart much time to hit the gym, so these type of workouts are best to get that heart rate up.
Work your way up to doing this 2-3 times and you’ll thank me;)

Leftover homemade Flax Banana Protein Squares

Espresso with frothed unsweetened almond milk.

Spoonful of almond butter

I got a sweet morning surprise this morning at work… My mom stopped by the salon to say hi, and brought me a cute little bag of goodies. Including a really great night cream I’ve been eyeing by ROC.

Of course mid morning, I snacked on some yummy raw trail mix from home.

Love my sweet clients! Today was full of surprises, my goodness! Look at this! Wine, pasta, sauce, a gorgeous pasta bowl!

Today, I was actually glad to have a super slow day because I got to play all day! Mom came, then 2 of my great girlfriends came, I loved it! Gennina brought baby Joseph, who is sooooo good btw! Such a happy baby, never cried once, all day!

I gave them both haircuts, and we cracked up for like 3 hours! Luckily there was no one else downstairs working, so we got the whole floor to ourselves!

We like to “high five and low five” ;)

They took out to lunch to this great Italian cafe across the street from the salon called Il Tramezzino. It was sooooo good!
We shared a great tuna chopped salad.
A panini with baked Brie, tomatoes, arugula, and some other goodness
And another panini with buffalo mozzarella, prosciutto, tomato
Big ol’ CHEAT day for me today kids.

Bread all over the place, not to mention the dessert we shared.

Tiramisu…oh yeah. So worth it. Give in a little;)

Gorgeous day out in Beverly Hills! We sat outside and people watched like creeps while eating. Lol, so fun.

I had to post these pics of us with joseph. We were dragging him along all of Beverly Hills. Lol. He was so great!

Aunties :)

Super stoked on my new Bass Knuckles hat that Gennina brought for me! Love supporting friends companies! Check it out if your guy is into fishing! Super cool gear.

My amazing co works took me to dinner! My favorite local Argentinian grill, LALA’s is where it’s at!
Bomb food and sangria!

They have a great outdoor patio with heat lamps, so it was super cozy.
My carb-o-load didn’t stop at lunch, the bread baskets and chimichurri just kept on comin’.
Once everyone arrived, we ordered empanadas for everyone to share. (Probably my favorite food of all time).
I ordered a skirt steak with salad. It was out of this world. I haven’t had red meat since the cleanse and I could tell my craving was gnarly. Lol. I was like an animal, I could smell that shit coming right outta the oven!

Ohhhhhhh dessert number 2…. Chocolate mousse cake. Happiest 29 year old in the world.
Thanks to everyone who made my day super special! Love you all!

Now…..what to do for Super Bowl Sunday???hmmm…..

New Years celebration!

In Dinner dates, friends, life, new years!, Uncategorized On January 2, 2013 0 Comments

How are we feeling after this weekend’s celebrations friends? Did y’all enjoy the last day of 2012?? Yeeeeeehooooooo. I did! Maybe a little too much;) Monday was a super fun day! I got a lot done, stoked on my new toy (vitamix), managed to get in my last workout of the year, Zumba, of course, and made some bomb ass scalloped potatoes for the New Years festivities. Sooo excited!
I wanted to share the fun with all of you babes! It was a blast! Full of great champagne, wine, friends, delicious food, and pretty little sweets.
Here’s the bestie Amy. Her and her boyfriend Matt hosted a great party, always do.

As we sipped our wine, we enjoyed a variety of cheeses, nuts, veggies, and dips

These lovely ladies…..gorge…

We literally stood in this position for like 15 minutes as Lance (a the photo genius) was playing with all the settings on my camera, trying out different shots. Lol. In the end, we decided it was the lighting above us that we didn’t like.
Btw…I have cute friends;)

The beautiful couple.

Apparently we REALLY like this pose. Byeeeeeee

CHEERS babes! Not gonna lie, I was just a wheeeeeeee bit tipsy. Here we go 2013!

Best part! You guys, seriously, no joke, dinner was A-MAZE-BALLZ! Just keep lookin on…
I mean….this picture says it all. Meat lovers paradise.

Amy’s homemade creamed cheesy spinach. LABOMBA.

Gorgeous caramelized root veggies, garlic, onions, that cooked with the juices of the meat.

This is when the drunkies came out.. Lol. Shouldn’t be allowed to hold a big ass knife in those conditions.

Ummm, do you see what’s happening here…..

PERFECTLY COOKED! Check out that pink. Wow. Never have I evaaaaaaa!

The potatoes au gratin were a hit. I ended up doing a healthier version. You know how heavy that dish can be. Originally made with lots of cream, cheese, butter, etc. I made it with ghee (clean butter), little bit of flour, nonfat Greek yogurt , skim cheeses, and unsweetened flax milk. I was actually pleasantly surprised to see how nicely it thickened up while on the stovetop. Also lots of garlic and thyme. That always makes thing taste delicious!

Ok, so annoyed. Apparently sometime during the evening, I got a big ol’ smudge on my lense. Effing pissed, cuz now you can’t really see my plate in all it’s glory!
Anyway, I forgot to mention, the CRAB LEGS. No bigz.
Dinner was amazing. I really enjoyed it all. Everything paired beautifully.

Another friend had made some delicious sweet treats
Angel food cupcakes and cookies shaped like champagne bottles. Adorbs.

I think things got a little blurry from this moment on. Literally.

The sweetest, raddest couple. Lance & Vaness. Loved seeing them!

Another year gone, and boy was it a crazy one! I hope that all of you enjoyed your evening as much as we did! We a truly blessed in this life. Don’t forget that. So let’s throw our hats up!

A few things…. French food..POT LUCK oh & a PASSION for PASTA!!

In Dinner dates, popular recipes, sassoon, Uncategorized On December 22, 2012 0 Comments

Can you tell it’s the holidays!? It’s all about food this week. I took off yesterday and today from the gym, and I’m not gonna lie, I’ve been indulging in EVERY way possible! I know I’ll be paying for it later, but, let me just have my “WHATEVER” moment, ok. I’m not the only one who falls off during this time of year.

The shenanigans started last night when I met up with me friend Cale, who I feel like I haven’t seen in ages. I went by his place after work yesterday, and we caught up over a great bottle of wine. Cale is a an amazing hairstylist. I’ve known him since we were, I don’t know, something like 14-15 years old.We both studied at the Vidal Sassoon Academy. After I finished school, I actually ended up staying there and becoming an instructor, and he was my student. He gets mad when I tell people that I was his teacher;) He is now is a successful stylist, working at John Frieda and also working freelance. PROUD.

We walked over to a local favorite spot, Comme Ca. French food is my ultimate demise. I just can’t resist. A total fave! We both are complete foodies, so this is where the indulging really began….

We started with a delicious French red, and shared a delicious array of cheeses and charcuterie. I swear if I could eat just that for the rest of my life, I would die happy! And YES, I ATE LOTS OF BREAD. Bread lady for dayyyyys!

For my entree, I ordered SEARED DIVER SEA SCALLOPS with
potato gnocchi, wild mushroom, swiss chard. I mean… could I resist. Cooked to perfection.

Caile ordered theTARTE FLAMBÉE with fromage blanc, caramelized onions, and lardons.
Absolute heaven. Of course I just had to try his:)

Dessert was an APPLE TART TATIN with vanilla bean ice cream. DIE.
I was the perfect end to a great meal. Wow. Stuffed.

Oh no, the battle of the binge didn’t end there…..
The next day was our annual Sassoon Holiday Pot Luck. I get scared when these pot lucks come around. I completely lose my shit. It is like slow torture. I couldn’t seem to get away from it! Cakes, cookies, dips, just all gnarlyness!!!
I was beyond, BEYOND bad today.

We’ve got a Moroccan in the house, so she brought her famous lamb tagine, which was completely authentic, took hours to complete, and tasted divine.

Maybe the one single healthy thing on the table…… Fruit platter.

BOMB-ass spinach, artichoke dip! A staple at every pot luck. It must be. It’s amazing, and everybody loves it.

It’s almost embarrassing that this just keeps going, cuz yes, I did participate in eating all that you see here. And lots. Boss made Chinese chicken salad, that was gone in 15 minutes.

The famous peanut butter cookies that Matthew’s mom makes. We all swoon over them, because they are irresistible. I took some home to share with the farm tomorrow:) my brother obsesses over peanut butter, so I’m sure he’ll appreciate:) I won’t a tell you how many I had. I was From fit to Fries today.

Haley’s famous 7 layer dip, with a lil corner that didn’t have cheese;) Foe Jee, she f*%#ing HATES cheese. Awe, thoughtful friends. ;)

Check it out!
Not pictured:
Homemade gumbo
Creamed spinach
Chocolate orange torte
Vodka lemon cake
Egg nog rum cake
Salvadorian pupusas

Annnnnnnndddddd. FINALLY, to top it off, a ridiculous cake from Sweet Lady Jane.

Very year at the end of our pot luck, it’s tradition, we exchange secret Santa gifts:) I got egggggzactly want I wanted.Gift cards to coffee bean and while foods! she wrapped the gift cards like 20 times, with different wrapping paper! makin me work!So excited! Thank u Yasuna<3

Wow, I’m exhausted writing about all this food! Sooooooo…. I’m gonna now leave you with food! Something super healthy to counter all this naughtiness happening! <ClICk, CLICK> and the yellow brick road will lead you to the stairway to heaven:)

A SORE… & unexpected day off

Hey babes!

Sooo, WTF… OK, so you know that I took that BRIKAM class last night right? Well, have you ever in your life taken a class at 10 p.m for an hour and 1/2?? yeah, well, try sleeping after that. You would think that it would be easy peazy right? WRONG!!!! The absolute worse! I couldn’t fall asleep till 3 f*@k*ng A.M. My adrenaline was too strong to be able to pass out. Not to mention, the pain that started to develope in my neck and lower back!

You guessed it. With the combo of all those “I’m not feeling good in this posishhh” back bends, not being able to sleep and finally passing out on the couch, I woke up with a total body HANGOVER! I woke up at my normal time, 5:15, and could barely move.

Wow, this is really gonna be a good day. I decided by 8:00 a.m that it was not worth the pain being on my feet all day at work. So, I stayed home. I took 3 IB profins and passed out. woke up and began icing on and off every 20 mins.

My Mom has worked in physical therapy for many years now, and we’ve come to learn that this icing technique, along with rest, stretching,anti-inflammatories, and massage is the best way to heal. It’s the truth, and you’ll thank me later:)

Anyway, after laying on the couch for what seemed to be a lifetime (I played around with my new ipad;) I decided to get up and try to get a few things done. I leave for BIG BEAR with Mom and a few of our family girlfriends this weekend, so I thought i would just start getting ready for that.

well….that didn’t end up happening, instead, my friend Jules texted and said “if your around later, I’m roasting a whole chicken, I’m craving lots of protein”

I was there within the 1/2 hour;)

I was feeling a bit better at this point, so when I got there, we made some espressos and got to girlchattin.

Oooo-mmm-ggggg… just take a look at this amazing flower! she got them at Trader’s! Can you believe?

So cheap, but gorgeous!

She ended up sending me home with one of them (lucky girrrl)

Don’t know if I’ve told you guys, but she is an amazing baker. Her old boss still orders tons of cakes from her. Check out these perfect Vanilla Bean Rum Cakes. wooooooooozaaaaaa

She recently had a girl come to her door selling  a monthly service of organic produce delivery. Genius, right? Twice a month they drop off a box of whatever is in season. I think I might do it too. The only problem is, and we started becoming hesitant, is that we live along, and it ends up being a bit much for just one person. I hate wasting and I have a feeling some stuff would go bad within a few days. SUCKS. But like I said, “lucky Girl that I am” Jule’s sent me home with some gorgeous fruits and veggies, because, seeeeeeeeee, she knew it wouldn’t all last.

Everytime I go over there, I become fascinated with her stunning china. ughhh i want!

There’s that hunk-o-burnin-love in all its glory.

Simple, organic.

Served with a little leftover roasted squash.

And, you know I’m loving the white tree action lately, so, here she is:)

So jealous

What’s your fave way to roast a chicken?

First TREE decorating party and dinner!

In Christmas, Dinner dates, friends, Uncategorized On December 4, 2012 0 Comments

Happy Holidays People! We can officially start saying that! The first “CHRISTMAS’ party has arrived, and it was a blast!
Every year miss Haley hosts a great tree decorating party along with a fabulous home cooked feast. Full flavor of course, don’t bring your diet to this party!
She’s always had a knack for cooking, but is getting better and more sophisticated every year!
This chick loves a knife in her hand!
( god forbid she put it down for 2 secs to vogue) hehe.

I’m a bit late in posting this because I had to go through so many pics from this evening. I couldn’t choose which ones were my faves:)

How good does this look!
Lemony kale with olive oil, Parmesan slice, over crostini

Arugula pomegranate salad with hemp seeds, manchego cheese, shallots, with a pomegranate molasses dressing. Wow

Homemade spinach artichoke dip in a sourdough bread bowl. This was a freakin HIT. Especially with me! I don’t know anybody who isn’t a fan of this dish, I mean, c’mon . This went fast:)

Who doesn’t love champagne for a celebration?!
We were doing lots of toasting this evening.

Haley working hard in the kitchen, making green beans blanketed with asian style filet mignon .
Ridiculous. Don’t be jelly! The beef was just simply marinated in sugar and soy sauce, wrapped over the beans, and thrown in the broiler for, something like 5-10 mins. Soon easy. Great dish for a party and not messy

Gorgeous right! Not gonna lie I had like 5 of them;)

Bacon wrapped baby potatoes. Another great easy recipe to throw together for a party. She’s really great about choosing recipes that won’t keep her in the kitchen during the while party. You have to prioritize, clean as you go, and the most important thing, spending the time to enjoy your guests. I must admit, I’m bad at this. I tend to over complicate things at times, pick hard recipes, and make a MESS in the kitchen. Working on it. Promise.

Look at this spread!
Now that’s a hungry girl party. Lol

Hehe, Mr. Wilbur waiting for food to drop. What’s new. God, he’s so cute.

The babes

Time to decorate…ok, can you tell I’m a ill tipsy here. Btw… I forgot to tell you guys!

I came to Haley’s 2 hours after the SPARTAN RACE, so I was exhausted. Physically and mentally, but I was NOT missing the yearly tradition. With that said…. After a couple glasses of champagne , I was done for.

We busted out the ornaments and lights and started goin nuts;)
It took us a while to get tree to stay centered. For some reason that thing kept tipping over. How many girls goes it take…..

I’m really loving creating traditions with friends. It gives us days to really look forward to, you know.

My friends are cute!

Yasuna brought dessert. An amazing cake from a local Korean market. We always tell het to bring it when we get together for parties, because it is so damn good! Really super light and fluffy. Nothing heavy about it.
I think it’s chocolate mousse, thin sheet cake with light whipped cream, strawberries, and shaved chocolate.

Aaaaaaanddddd, for some odd reason we decided to put birthday candles on top and had Haley blow them out. So weird.

OOOOKKKKKKKK this is clearly when I had had enough to drink.

Check out the almost empty table, yeah, we cleared it out! I ate tons!
Pretty soon after this shot, I was passed out on the couch with Willy sleeping on my head.
Tired and tossed in every sense of the word. Haha.

I will have you know that I slept from 5 p.m this evening till 5 a.m the next morning. Yep. On the couch. Somebody was TIRED!

What are some of your holiday party ideas?

The Bazzar @The SLS Hotel

In Dinner dates, friends, Uncategorized On November 24, 2012 2 Comments

Saturday night…and I’ve got a date.

Don’t get too excited…It’s not with a guy ya’ll.

I met up with my bestie, Amy and her boyfriend along with some other friends in town from New York to enjoy an awesome dinner at the Bazzar. The restaurant inside the SLS hotel in LA. This place is stunning, and the restaurant is huge with a great bar. The chef, award winning Jose Andres is a genius. I’ts a modern dining EXPIRIENCE with spanish cuisine. This place , the vibe, is magical. Please excuse the, not so great pics. They were taken on my Iphone and the lighting was pretty dim.

Anyway, I walked into the elevator area to be taken to where my friends were, and this is what I came across… a huge mural of Michael Jackson, and this fabulous chair and lamp. Amazing.

Here she is! Bestie. Ex roomie, A hairdresser herself, we graduated from the Sassoon Academy together and have been inseparable since. You know how it is though once you start getting busy, getting boyfriends, moving further, it becomes harder to find quality girl time. When we do get to hang out, It’s like a day hasn’t passed.

We hung out at the bar for a bit, while our table was being prepared. All of the drinks on the menu sounded delish.

This was my choice.

 Passion Fruit Up!

Orange rum, passion fruit and ginger-laurel syrup, topped with passion fruit foam.

It was heaven, not too sweet.

The cute ass napkins. I love them.

Once we were sat at our table, we had heard some peeps talking about the cart guy making his way around the tables making fresh “adult slushies”

Well, in reality they are their famous LN2 Caipirinha

Brazilian cachaça, fresh lime and sugar frozen by using Liquid Nitrogen. Tableside service .

They were unbelievable.

edible flowers and all. Nothing better. Along with a lil wooden spoon to eat like a slushy:)

The 3 amigos.

OK… I have to talk about these “liquid olives”

Sounds weird, but If I hadn’t tried them, I would’ve missed out.

It’s the Bazaar’s most famous dish, basically olive-flavored liquid mixed with sodium alginate, put into a bath of calcium chloride to create the encapsulating thin membrane. The “olives” were then marinated in a mixture of olive oil, rosemary, garlic, and orange peel. If you get a chance to check the restaurant out, start with these little balls of flavor! yummmmm

Again, sorry for the shitty pics. I swear they looked much more beautiful in person.

These little wonton looking things are jicama wrapped guacamole cups.So incredibly fresh tasting .

Would for sure order again.

(these two aren’t my pics, but I found them online so that you could see what a beauty they are.

Their version of caprese salad

Using spherification technique so the mozzarella balls popped in the mouth!

And the favorite of the evening… The Philli Cheesesteak…made on “air bread”. Yeah I know. This is some fancy shit right here. I gotta be honest though, every should try this. I can’t even begin to describe how tasty this was. The “air bread” is crispy on the outside and hollow on the inside. It really feels more like a hollow cracker than bread. The air bread is then filled with aged cheddar sauce and topped with an ultra-thin slice of Kobe beef. WOW. what a treat.

I will definitely be going back. It was a new and fun dining experience. If you want to go and try it out, I recommend going with a few friends and splitting all the dishes. They are considered small plates (tapas). Make a reservation because it’s always packed. I asure you though, when you are seated, you don’t get the vibe of a super crowded place. It’s for me more of a special occasion type place because it is quite pricey. I considered it a treat , and a fun date night with friends:)

Please feel free to comment below if you have been and recommend a dish for next time!

night babes!
