Hey guys! Hope everyone enjoyed a fabulous weekend off! I had a super relaxing and fun weekend. Well, full of errands, but also full of fam and friends time:) got a couple if really great workouts in as well. That always makes me feel amazing. Sunday we did the Santa Monica Stairs, and today, I took a great barre class at Exhale in the gorgeous Fairmont Hotel in Santa Monica. Nice switch up from Sundays cardio. We smashed those stairs though, for real. My calves were begging for mercy in Barre today! Lol.
Anyway, I I wanted to share with y’all a little review I did on some really fab new wines from Brancott Estate. I was asked to review them, #1: cuz you know this chick lovessss her vino, and #2: cuz it’s totally up all our alleys!!!

Y’all know I love to find new and great ways to still enjoy these treats without being a cow, so I thought it would be appropriate, right!?!?

Now…again, I have to tell you this, cuz I’m profeshhhhhh, but seriously, always bring you my true opinion.
(I participated in an Influencer Activation on behalf of Millennial Central for Brancott Estate Wines. I received product samples to facilitate my review as well as a promotional item to thank me for my participation.)

These wines are sooo perfect for this beautiful sunny weather we are having! They are not heavy on the alcohol, so you will not feel like a sack of rocks, but also very light and crisp. For me…there is nothing light a glass of chilled white in the warm weather!

The first one I tried from my lil swag bag, was the Brancott Pinot Grigio.

Clearly, this is a fun wine to enjoy with a girlfriend! I mean, you could also enjoy with the boyfriend..with fam…or at home alone like a creep too. Lol. I headed to my friend Jule’s house for some snacks and give this a go. We are both into clean eating and lighter fare, so this was our girls evening!

Ook, so…the bottle seemed to have gone wayyyyy to fast. It was a warm night in the valley, and it was just what the doc ordered. Super crisp with a nice clean finish. It was delectable! Absolutely nothing heavy about this wine at all!
In fact, Jules was even asking about getting a case for an upcoming party. What I loved, was that there was nothing complicated about it. Really can be paired with a lot! This particular Pinot Grigio captures wonderful floral notes, ripe apple and nashi pear & pure freshness. Full of taste and lighter in calories. (A freakin bonus!)

Hi lovely friends!
I’ve got a super special post for you!!! I know, you’re looking at the title, like WTF!??
Hahaha, well, it’s eggggggzactly what it seems. Sausage making like the pros! Ok, I can’t take credit for this but, I was a part of it & I think everyone must try to make their own sausage at least once in their @ife! seriously!!!! Why? Cuz it’s the bomb!!!!

My girlfriend Amal, (shaved head) recently moved to this beautiful home in Echo Park, and had renovated her backyard into a chefs dream!!! A beautiful outdoor kitchen, along with a cozy wood burning fireplace. All of us girls are big foodies and wanna be chefs, so we had been talking about getting together, but were waiting for the construction to finally be done!

We have been wanting to have a sausage making party for like…..EVER!!!!!!So, finally the day came! We each picked up our own meat, and headed to Echo Park for the day. When I arrived with my bag full of goodies, I noticed Amal had set up the huge table full of every herb, every spice, and every sauce combo you could possible think to stuff with a sausage. Wow!

Soooo, I wasn’t thinking and when picking out what type of meat filling I wanted, and bought a bunch of chicken breast from Hardy’s meat market. Amazing, fresh chicken. Here’s the problem. YOU NEED FAT TO BIND THE MEAT!!!! there goes my attempt at making the healthiest sausage around! Such a dumb ass.

We were using the Kitchen Aid stand mixer with the sausage making attachment. Which, BTW, is AMAZEBALLZ, and if you’re a cook, a MUST! I’ve been dying for one since I was like…hmmmmm. Maybe 18. Why I haven’t purchased one yet, I haven’t got a damn clue! They are fantastic! Perhaps it’s because it takes up about 1/2 my kitchen counter! Lol
Anyway….
All this work called for some delicious homemade cocktails. Besides, we weren’t goin anywhere anytime soon…this shit was werrrrrrek!

As most of you know, I am froM Argentina, and anyone who knows anything about my country, knows that you can’t set the table without bOmb ass CHIMICHURRI!! Check out the recipe here. Simple and perfect! I brought it from home, ( I buy mine at mercado buenos Aires, when I’m too lazy to make it myself) because I thought, why not, this is gonna taste bomb in my sausage!!

I was cracking up cuz, here I am, trying to make my sausage be alllllllll healthy n shit, and here comes Amal……. 1 thousand pounds of full fat, full flavor PORK! goooooood lord! Ok, maybe I’ll borrow a lil;)
Amal got all this amazing meat from a new local butcher in West Hollywood. Some of you may have heard of them. They are the hottest new butcher babes in town! Lindy & Grundy serve up some mean meats! All local, pasteurized, and organic! I absolutely LOVE the idea of the “small shops” makin’ a comeback! This business has absolutely made it. They offer classes for meat enthusiasts, delivery for all your meat needs;) and offer the freshest product around.
Girl, I a need some of that pork up in here now…..

Y’all….so we thought, “this is gonna be cake!” Whelp, not so much….here’s a shot of us in action. We were being attacked by wasps who apparently have a thing for raw meat. WTF! I was grinding as Amal was fanning them away. It was disastrous.

We had so much meat to grind…this was gonna take forever! Remember….we still had to mix all the herds, and spices…them tube our mixture into casing. Omg. Hahahaha…notice Dianne’s face…she May or may not be getting stung by a wasp.

Piping the sausage through into the casing was a nightmare. It took us forever! No joke. We had one person pushing the ground meat through, then another person making sure no air was gettin into the casing, then ANOTHER person, twisting to make the sausage shape. Holy shit! We put in some serious time!

We hung the rest to dry. We probably could of fed a small army. We each took a few of each other creations home and hung in our own fridges. I gotta say….pretty amazing!!!!!

Well, well, well…. If it isn’t already September….

Hi babes! Hope everyone had a fantastic & safe Labor Day weekend;) I just can’t believe that August has already flown by! There is still absolutely NO sign of the weather cooling down. Nope. In the valleys, it’s still triple digits! I need a pool! For the holiday weekend, me and some friends decided to get outta the smoldering, desert heat, and head to the beaches of Ventura, CA.

We got there around 11:30, and set up our spot. I got the BEST lil table that folds up from crate and barrel, that I’m completely obsessed with, and take everywhere…so we payed out all our snacks and drinks:) we started with mimosas of course, but used light Minute Maid 50% less sugar OJ instead of regular. Some more friends met up, and we moved to light beer. There’s just something so refreshing about an ice cold beer at the beach. Michelob Ultra to be exact. It’s super light, and low carb! Cheers to fun & tan lines;)

Around 4:30 we headed up for a killer (&low carb) BBQ! It was amazing! Lean Jennie-O Italian sausages, marinaded chicken breast, carne asana, bell peppers, spinach salad… OHHH myyyyyyyy!
Chips & salsa…(not so low carb, but still indulged) oooooooo, and some homemade rum, vanilla liquor cake that my friend Jules had brought. A bit of a food coma set in, but, hey…it’s a holiday:) lol.

After din we all headed back down to enjoy the gorgeous sunset. Spectacular. Absolutely stunning.
That night, (sunday) we all went out in downtown Ventura, and had a ball. Super fun..lots of cocktails, and bar hopping. You know what that means…. Monday breakfast would be a cheat… Lol. I was dying for a rich, and delicious Blueberry Cornbread Muffin from Café Nouveau. Hands down fave breakfast joint.

Well, luckily..we made it home without traffic:)
Tuesday came far tooooooo fast.
Somehow, my pretty yellow roses lived though my un-air conditioned apartment for 2 days. WTF. So happy.

I woke up this morning feeling pretty defeated. I gotta tell ya, I cannot hang like I used to. My body was yelling at me for sure. I felt bloated, heavy, and lethargic. At that moment….I made some decisions.
Chill the Fu*% out…

Chill on the drinking!

I quit sugar. (Again)

Stick to low carb… ( with the exception of these healthy carbs: sweet potato (limited) squash. Tomatoes (limited) most fruits. Gluten free oats (sometimes)

Limit snacking.

(Holiday..or not!)
Listen, all of these things I’ve got to keep reminding myself, and even write down because THIS IS WHAT WORKS FOR ME.

Shake it off ladies. Jump back on the fit train! Today is Tuesday….the day after the holiday…lets do werrrrrk!!!!
I threw on shorts and a sports bra and looked up today’s GPP Fitness WOD.
This was a really great one. Kicked my ass.
Not too busy at work today, so I also plan to take a Corepower class around 4:30 today… Really starting to feel like myself again, after a few days of whatever the fu%*.

Breakfast this morning was DA BOMMMBBBB! Doesn’t look very exciting, but it was exactly what my body was screaming for. Protein..protein..and omegas. Lol.
Work didn’t start till 11:00 am, so I had time to bake a fresh wild caught salmon:)
I made a delicious runny egg and yes, I did eat the yolk. Yummmmmm. I’m a new person.
Lately I’ve stopped using oil sprays, even the organic ones. I’m just over them. I’ve now switched to a teeny bit of coconut oil or Ghee.

Ugh, sooooo sorry I’ve been MIA:( I’ve been in Vancouver, Canada, and had no time to post! My computer is acting up as well, so I promise to bring you some dope pics of my trip as soon as I can get piece of shit computer to the Apple store and fixed! An

Anyway, I’m freakin back! Had a wonderful trip. Stayed uber healthy and on point, I’ll save all the deets for the upcoming Canada post.

I got home Monday (Cananda day) and realized my work week is only 3 days this week! Woohoo. I’m loving life life now. My feet are feeling better. Oh I forgot to mention….. I have tendonitis on my feet, and have recently found my new heaven, orthopedic shoes. And yes, I have made that shit CUTE!
Lol. I’ve got a cople more trips planned for this month, anddddddd… (drumroll) my FAVORITE holiday Is mañana!!!!
The 4th of JULY is tomorrow, and I am soooo excited, I could do cartwheels. ;). Yup.

So here’s the deal. I am originally from South America, and although always feeling very connected to my hometown of Buenos Aires, Argentina, the U.S.A is home now, and has been for many years. When I became a citizen, it was an extremely proud moment for me, as is for many immigrants. I can’t even begin to explain to you all how grateful I am to my folks who worked their asses off to get all of us to where we are today.
Ok, not gonna get all sappy, but you get it, yeah. I’m freakin proud;)
So, when I say…I get REALLLLLLLY into the 4th, it’s a bit of an understatement. I swear. I turn allllllll American. Haha.

MEMORIAL DAY RECAP<3

Happy Tuesday beauties!! Hope y’all had a fabulous day off celebrating Memorial Day;) I already have Mondays off, so nothing too out of the ordinary for me. Gym, as usual, a bit of bbqin’, and a LOT of laying around doing nothing but watching movie after movie. I never do hat. It was fab!
I’ve been obsessing over how beautiful my peonies have bloomed, so I must share. They were having a sale at whole foods the other day, $8.99 for 6 stems. Egggggzactly! You best believe, I stocked up.

Monday was a bit of a recovery day for me. Sunday was jam packed. We hosted our bestie’s bridal shower, which was SOOOO FUN, but not joking….lots of wine, champagne, sangria…..oh andddddd chips and salsa.;) oops

sugar-free chocolate covered strawberries. YUMMMMMMMMMZIESSSS

Super simple and much healthier than traditional choco-covered strawberries. Give it a try.

1st:
Rinse fruit and let completely dry

2nd:
in a med bowl, mix 3 tbsp melted coconut oil
1/3 cup 100% cacao powder ( I used raw/organic)
1 tsp vanilla bean paste or 1/2 tsp vanilla extract
3 drops stevia
Pinch of salt

3rd:
Place on parchment paper and into the fridge they go to set.

Yesterday started off with a trip to the gym. The plan of attack:

Yeah, I know…WTF. First thing in the morning….yes fasted.
Homegirl needed to burn off some of that alcohol and chips from Sunday!

That’s right….you take a full deck of cards with you to the gym or you could also do this at home, find a nice space where you can jump and run around like a crazy, and do one card at a time.

My warmup was 20 minutes on the stair master on “INTERVALS”. Got my heart rate up and my body sweatin’.
I headed to the mats where there was also a long “runway” for my sprints.
So, whoever the F*%k last shuffled these cards was a Mother Trucker, cuz I kept getting burpee after burpee card, like it was my J.O.B! Ughhhhhhh I was dying.

I switched up my jokers from 400 meter run to sprints.
Also switched aces from 10 reps to 50 jumping jacks.

Yep, that’s right, you don’t stop until you finish the deck of cards. This workout is fantastic to try with clients for time. It’s a full body workout, and trust me, you really burn does muscles out.
When I finished… I was sweating bullets, panting, and completely flushed. Super proud of my motivation, geez.
I looked like I was training for the Olympics or something, lol, to the point where one of the trainers comes up to me and says, “Hi, I’m Mario, sorry to bother you but….what are you doing? Are you an athlete?
Ummmm…” LOL, no…but I like to train like I am.
I was so happy to share with him my new obsession with GPP fitness.

I could NOT wait to get home and devour this Vega Sport Chocolate Protein shake! I’ve been wanting to try this for a while, so I was stoked when Vega hooked it up for the swag bags at blend retreat! Yipeeee. It was like drinking melted chocolate ICE CREAM! Holy delicious! I’m sad I only had 2 packets:(

I discovered a new favorite cheese y’all!!!! And……you can find it even at Ralph’s! It’s called Beecher’s Handmade (from Seattle) OOOOOMMMMMGGGGGGG
It’s a semi-hard cows milk cheese. A little sharp, aged for 15 months. So bomb. We also enjoyed a fabulous bottle of wine. Acacia “A” Pinot noir is my latest find. For around $15 it’s a great bottle that’s soft on the palate. This particular one has nots of raspberry, black cherry, slightly sweet but a bit peppery. Oooohhhhhweeeeee, really lovely.

Actual lunch was simple, fresh, and clean.
Mixed baby greens tossed in orange olive oil w/ muscat champagne vinegar,along with some BBQ turkey breast fresh off the grill. Gotta balance it out right!?

Better late that never, eh!? Hope everyone enjoyed a beautiful, sunny in LA, weekend!;) I certainly did. If you don’t know me by now, my “after weekend” posts usually include a sunday fam BBQ day, and what kind of person would I be, of I didn’t post every one of those special Sunday’s pics. To most of you, they look the same as every past Sunday’s, but to me, it’s about catching up, enjoying my folks, their backyard, the dogs running around like psychos, mom and I spending too much money bargain shopping, trying to convince dad to build me something ” rustic, yet contemporary” ( I need a new desk) LOL, oh and the best part…. Stuffing my face with red meat, chorizo, and blood sausage. It’s my once a week VICE.

Here are some highlights;)
New favorite POWER protein Breakfast:
1/2 cup egg whites
1/2 mashed ripe banana
A few drops vanilla extract
1 tbsp raw nut butter
1 tsp flax meal or flax seeds
1 tsp unsweetened shredded coconut.
I know sweet eggs!?

Best damn kale chips around y’all. Brad’s RAW Foods offers kale chips that are packed with the best flavor. I’ve tried loads of different brands and these by far are the crunchiest, and healthiest:)

Btw, sorry I’ve been neglecting fitness pics, but…thing is, I’ve been so focused on my ZUMBA training, that I haven’t really had the time to do any other kind of workout lately. I get certified this week!!! ahhhhhh So I thought I’d let you know….I’ve been doing ZUMBA 4 days a wk. oh, and in between, practicing at home or with my headphones at work in while dancing like a freak in the staff room. Yes, I am the only one hearing the music, so everyone’s like WTF is she doing. Lol.

Anyway, now that I’ve confessed the fact that I haven’t been at the actual GYM, we can move forward with this post of mostly food;) hehe.

Sunday BBQ prep. Salad with cilantro, green onions, tomatoes, lemon, red wine vinegar, olive oil, and oregano.
About to sautée some brussel sprouts.
And cook up some sweet potato as mom and I’s carb of choice.

Mom likes to serve ciabatta bread in 3’s. As if anyone but my dad is gonna eat any. No thanks. Once I ” break the seal” ( the, I’m not having any bread, seal) it’s all over. Carb-o-binge like its goin outta style. Not cute, and “Ain’t nobody got time for dat!”

We also shared a really great bottle wine. Then, we decided to go shopping. This is probably how I managed to spend way too much money “bargain shopping.” Two cart’s full of stuff, does kinda cancel out the fact that you’re getting a good price. NOTE: avoid shopping and drinking.

CARROT ZUCHINNI PROTEIN CAKE that I recently shared on my Facebook page. It’s a recipe created by one of my favorite protein bakers! My homegirl over at Proteinpow.com I hadn’t had a chance to make it yet, so mom surprised me:)

I must say….. It is perfection. not too sweet, not at all “veggie” tasting, and it’s virtually GUILT-FREE. Cake & coffee, precisely what I needed after spending too much dough. I swear, give me cake, and I don’t give a shit about anything else. Hahaha.

Have you ever gone to M Cafe???
Well, if you haven’t had the pleasure yet, I highly recommend it. Granted, there are some things, I’m not such a big fan of, but there is one dish in particular that I’ve completely fallen head over heels in love with. M cafe caters to a healthy macrobiotic diet/lifestyle. Read more about macrobiotic here. I searched high and low to bring you the best version of M cafe’s KALE SALAD WITH SPICY PEANUT DRESSING.
his is huge news….. You’re gonna freak out, and yes, you will thank me. Kale can sometimes get a bit boring, so this recipe really spruces up your relationship with it.
Nothing boring about this bad boy.

The original recipe calls for regular ol’ natural peanut butter, but I thought I’d switch it out for a less fattening option….my trusted PB2 will do just perfect. ( scroll to the right, click on specialty foods, and scroll through the pages, you will find pb2 on my amazon faves!)

I’ve attached a print- friendly recipe for you to grab. I made this so quick, oh, and I ate it just as quickly;) it’s super easy!
1. Blanch the kale
2. Sautée shallots, onion, garlic
3. Make your spicy peanut dressing.
4. Combine, garnish, and serve;)

“M Cafe” Kale Salad with Spicy Peanut Dressing
 
Obsessing over M CAFE’s Kale salad…..naturally….I HAD to make it! Delicious, with a kick, and outrageously healthy;)
Ingredients
  • 1 large bunch kale (about 3-4 cups)
  • ¼ red onion, sliced very thin
  • 1 shallot
  • ½ tsp high heat oil. (I used safflower oil)
  • Spicy Peanut Dressing
  • ½ cup PB2 (1/2 cup when mixed with water) Or natural peanut butter, but will raise the fat content
  • 1 Tbsp Nature’s Hollow honey
 (sugar free)
  • 2 Tbsp low sodium soy sauce
  • 2 Tbsp brown rice vinegar
  • 1 tsp. garlic, minced
  • ½ tsp. ginger, minced
  • ¼ tsp. cayenne pepper
  • ⅛ tsp. salt
  • 1 ½ oz hot water

Instructions
  1. 1. Remove the kale from the stems. 
Add a pinch of Salt to a pot of boiling water, then blanch the Kale for 3 min. 
Remove the Kale from the boiling water and shock it in a container of ice water. 
Finally, squeeze the excess water out of the cooled Kale.
  2. Sautee onions and shallots with a bit of salt and pepper and ½ tsp oil until softened. Set aside.
  3. Spicy Peanut Dressing: Place all dressing ingredients into a blender. Blend until mixture turns into a smooth consistency.
  4. Drizzle the dressing on top of the Kale and onions, and mix the kale and dressing together until kale is evenly coated. Garnish chopped peanuts.
  5. *Makes enough to dress 2 large bunches of kale. Stores well refrigerated for up to 6 weeks.

Notes
Note: I used PB2 to cut down on the fat, but you can certainly use all natural peanut butter.

Kyodan NO SLIP headband! New obsession, especially now that I’ve got these damn bangs I got to get outta my face! Ugh. No more having to bobby pin them back. This headband doesn’t budge through my whole 1 hour ZUMBA session, and trust me, I whip my hair back n’ forth like it’s goin’ outta style!

BBQ Trifle with Dijon dressing!

HAPPY MONDAY BABES!
Hope everyone started their week on a clean slate;) last night was my first night on the couch, and I actually slept really well. My downstairs looked like a fort, with all the blankets, pillows. Lol. Willy and I fell asleep watching an Argentinian movie, which I couldn’t tell you at all what it was about, cuz we passed out. 🙂

This morning was so beautiful! I needed to make my rounds this a.m. To all the doggie day cares for evaluations, which went well. I think we finally found a place:) although, not outdoors, they offer free 15 minute walks to the pups. He’s gonna stay with the pups 20 lbs and under. He was a bit shy and skiddish, but I’m sure he’ll get used to it.

I had a client at 11:45, but I wanted to take advantage of this gorgeous morning, so we went on a hike though Fryman Canyon. It was packed. It was perfect weather, loads of people and dogs.

Today’s lunch is the freakin HIGHLIGHT!
Since it’s not so cold out anymore, I decided to do a little BBQ at home. I needed protein and color! I did some major grocery shopping today, so I was ready!

I grabbed :

Portabello mushrooms

Red peppers

Zucchini

Chicken breast

Lemon

The vegetables get such a beautiful flavor on the grill that I didn’t have to oil them or season them too much. Also, I like my veggies really softened on the grill, so I put those first, I figured they’d take longer than the chicken.

I have a misto, which I LOVE, it’s drastically reduced the amount of oil I have to use by a lot. If you don’t have one, that’s ok, but I highly recommend it:)
I seasoned the veggies with salt and pepper. Chipotle seasoning would be bomb on them too. Play around!
Place them on grill, and close the door!

The heat remained at aboutmed/high.
Once I saw that the veggies had softened, I added the chicken. I marinated the chicken breast in lemon, salt pepper, garlic, and Cajun seasonings. Allowing a good amount of searing before turning the breast over. I like grill marks;) squeeze lemon over chicken when you flip to the other side as well.
I think the chicken took about 6 minutes on each side, but every grill is different. Just watch it.
Took everything off the grill once done, and set aside to cool for a few minutes as I got my plating ready.

Willy’s favorite spot on the couch:) next to the patio door, where the sun comes in. I always find him right there.
I picked up some fresh tulips from trader joes this morning. I’m loving tulips right now.. They are the first sign that spring is in the air at my house:)
Which BTW… $4.99 for a 9 tulip bunch! So cheap. I love Trader’s!

Alright, time to start making this BBQ sexy! I went in the kitchen and quickly made my

Dijon dressing:

1 tbsp whole grain Dijon mustard ( I used the trader joes brand)

1 tbsp apple cider vinegar

1 tsp orange infused olive oil. ( it’s ok if you don’t have infused olive oil, just add a quick squeeze of an orange the your mix)

Pinch of salt, pinch of pepper.

Makes two servings.

Set aside until you form your trifle.

This is a gorgeous dish. Invite your friends over, make this super clean recipe, and they will die! Of pure joy of course. It’s full of colors that pop, a wonderful citrusy flavor, and loads of different textures. Your pallet is gonna go buzzzzurk!
Best part, sooooooo easy!

Time to for your BBQ Trifle.

Place a handful of microgreens on a plate. This is your bed:)
Place big portabello facing up, right over the greens.
Take a 1/2 a grilled red pepper and cut into thin strips, place inside mushroom
Grab one of the 1/2’s of zuchinni and cut in cubes, mound on top of peppers.
Cut half a chicken breast into strips, and place on top of zuchinni. Now you have your lil mountain of wholesomeness. 🙂

One last thing, drizzle 1/2 of your Dijon dressing over the trifle, and enjoy! You could also top with fresh chopped cilantro.
